Sprained Ankle
General August 26th, 2007Argh! Yes, it’s sprained. It’s minor but I spent yesterday in agony, unable to take care of my baby. It feels better this morning and the swelling is gone down, but I’m still on crutches and my foot/ankle is wrapped. I’m pretty bummed right now. I was finally running full speed and enjoying it, and this happens. Well I’m not going to be running (or any exercise really) for awhile. To be honest this scares me…that I won’t get back into an active lifestyle, which I feel is so crucial to my weight loss. I just have to remember this feeling that being active gives me. It seems like something like this always happens to throw me off track. I guess that’s just life though, right?

My daughter is a diver and when she sprained her ankle we took her to a pediatric athletic specialist at the recommendation of her coach. The guy gave her a bunch of exercises to strengthen the muscles around her ankles: said it was important because once you tear a muscle it is never a strong as it was before. Not the end of the world mind you, just to stay at top performance you should do what the pros do. I found a site with similar exercises if you are interested http://www.mckinley.uiuc.edu/Handouts/anklesprain/anklesprain.html) My DD did the exercises because she was on mondified training, and kept up the strength training ones for the ankle for a few months after she was back on track. Good luck - dritta

oh no!!! That sucks, I’m so sorry, you really were doing so very well. It’s ok, though, don’t panic. Heal that ankle, but maybe do some handweights or something off your ankle so you can still feel active. When you get back to running, it might be a little hard at first, but your progress will come back quickly. Do not let this break you…you can do this!

(((HUGS))) Im so sorry honey. Sprained ankles suck. I use to sprain my ankles all the time. Buy you an ankle brace to wear from now on when you run. Until your on your feet again.. you could do weights or crunches or something. Im so sorry.

I clicked your blog link, got up from the computer to do something, came back and was talking to DS, looked at the computer screen, saw your headline, and outwardly groaned! No joke, Ds asked me what was wrong! I feel so bad for you, you were doing so well! Plus, you are sorta like my virtual running partner! Dang! Just keep icing it everyday, and do some other kind of workout where you don’t have to use it (strength training) and blog EVERYDAY. That might help you keep your focus until you are able to get back at it! I’m so sorry this happened. Hang in there! (((HUGS)))
