Day One of CT5K

Yesterday evening, I did the first day of Cool Running’s Couch to 5k. I have to admit, it was pretty tiring and my legs are really aching.  Those 60 seconds of running were  harder than I thought they would be!  I was sweating like a pig, but it felt pretty satisfying afterwards. The jogging stroller is great, it has a little steering wheel and snack tray to keep the baby happy. Today is a rest day and then back at it. I think I will do step aerobics or some Y!F  in between the days I “run”. I think I will make a workout page on here so that I have something solid to go by.  Well, off to finish reading the Harry Potter book!

I’ve decided to do this plan. We considered getting a treadmill but all the reviews I’ve read said not to waste your money on anything that costs below 500 dollars (for running). So I’ll be getting this:

and hitting the local track. The only track near me  that is asphalt has some inclines, so it will be a little harder. I would rather not have inclines starting off, but I have to work with what I can. I’m really excited and I would like to one day run a 5k. In case anyone is interested here is a link to the program I will be starting.

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml I know a few ladies on the board have used this and speak highly of it.

The biggest loser?

I’ve only recently started watching this show. It comes on bravo, I guess re-runs. It’s interesting to watch, and I love to watch shows about people losing weight. It’s almost an obsession.

Anyway, I’m watching one where they brought back some people they had thrown off in the first episode who were trying to lose weight on their own at home. Well, these people came back and had lost more weight than most of the folks who were at the ranch. Those on the ranch had the nerve to be mad, and I think the rest of the show is pretty much the “red” and “blue” team members trying to get rid of the new people. The new folks also seem to do a lot better in the competitions. It’s really weird though, how the trainers try to make the new people change what they have been doing at home. They keep contradicting themselves, saying that they need to workout 4 hours a day, but they need to adapt things (like eating) to their everyday lives. well, I don’t know too many people who can workout for hours on end every single day. So, while that show is fun to watch, It’s just kind of stupid because are those people REALLY learning about how to lose weight and keep it off? Also, it doesn’t even really seem to be about who loses the most weight, though that does give you somewhat of an edge…but a lot of times, it’s who likes you enough not to turn on you.

Sorry for the novel. I guess I’m reading too much into it. Those people are really probably just after the money and prizes first and foremost. The weight loss is probably just secondary. It’s kind of sad really. But I will continue to watch it, just because I love to see people transform as they lose weight. And I really wish to see that in myself as well!

New Weight

Weigh In 3 Comments »

Ok, new weight from my awesome new scale is 206.0 and body fat is 47.0%. I knew it would be high, but it gives me even further motivation to do something about it (almost half of me is FAT). I’ll have to reevaluate my goals of course, but at least know I can trust my weight. Off to change my tickers…

Not as thin as I thought I was

Well, my scale is here and it looks like my old was has been deceiving me. I know I shouldn’t have stepped on it when it arrived, but I was just so curious. I won’t post the weight here today, but I will when I weigh in tomorrow and I can almost guarantee that it will be significantly more than the 200 I think I weigh. The body fat reading was also depressing. I brought my old scale next to the new one and just went back and forth. The good news is that the new one always gave me the same weight, unlike the old one, which told me the same arrangement of different numbers like it always does. I will post the weight tomorrow I get in the morning. It’s a really neat scale though and I’m happy to have it. That old one is getting the boot, especially for lying to me :(

I did 30 minutes of a step aerobics and am about to go walking for however long the baby lets me.

Hurry up scale!

Ok, it’s only like 11 o’clock in the morning here and I’m already foaming at the mouth to get my scale. I keep praying that it will be everything that I hope it will be. I think I will have a nervous breakdown if it sucks. I don’t know why I’m such a hurry, I can’t really get a accurate weight until tomorrow morning. I guess I just want it in my hands hehe.

Anyway, I really need to start journaling my food again. I think i’ve gotten a little off track with portions and such. Also, like yesterday, sometimes I will snack all throughout the day. Not good. I’m not eating bad food, but even too much of good food can stop my weight loss. So here’s today menu:

B: shredded wheat w/2 percent milk and a banana

S: 3 strawberries

L: thin sirloin steak with mixed veggies (mostly green beans, with zuccinni, squash and a few red peppers)

S: a peach

D: no idea yet, will edit it later

I need to switch over to skim milk. I think the next time that I go shopping I will pick up a half gallon and start switching over. Baby will need whole milk, so that will always be around, but I can get used to skim. Maybe even come to prefer it. That’s all for now, I will write more later.

Just a quick entry

Let’s see…I did 30 minutes of Y!F, focusing on the core area. I need to do this more. My arms are getting pretty defined and strong, but my core muscles suck because I just don’t put enough time into them. Maybe it’s because I’m lazy and know that those muscles won’t really show up until I lose all the fat around them , and that’s where the majority of my fat is. Anyway, my abs are aching now, so I just have to continue to work it into my routine. I also did a 35 minute walk with baby at the track this afternoon. I feel pretty good. I’m going to try and gulp down the rest of my water tonight. I am sure I will be waking up a lot tonight to tinkle. Thanks for reading.

Bloody Brilliant!

Mini Goals, Weigh In 2 Comments »

Yes, I’m talking about the Harry Potter movie, it was awesome. I want to see it again, but I know that won’t happen until after it comes out on DVD since old DH practically had a nervous breakdown after watching the baby for about 3 hours yesterday. Try 24/7 buddy!

I awoke this morning to the scale telling me I weighed 200. I blinked, got off, and back on…200. Got off, got back on, scratched my nose during the reading and 203. Thought “hate my scale” and got back on standing perfectly still and got 200.  So I guess I weigh 200, which means a loss of 1 pound, which means a total loss of 25 lbs. 40 more to go and one pound until I get to Onderland. Assuming of course that my new scale (2 more days!!!) reads the same thing or less.

I always hear that only 5 percent of people who lose weight on a diet keep it off. It makes the whole weight loss struggle seem pretty hopeless. I went looking in search of answers and found this:

Diet Myth

It pretty much says how that 5 percent statistic is based off a study of 100 people that they did in 1959. ONE study MANY years ago.  The following site has, along with how characteristics of your daily life affect maintaining weight, also a survey of 1300 people that gave a better (and more hopeful) percentage of people who did keep the weight off.
