I hit my 10% goal at my weight-in on Tuesday! Down to 104.2kg, over 11kg lost. That’s since I started WW last year, not just since I’ve tartedback this year but I have had two solid weeks of loss that its encouraging.
I’ve started training for the Inca Trail. Hill inclines on the treadmill and swimming on Sundays. Starting slowly for now but will be upping the ante as September rolls closer. Unfortunately my surgery date has been set for Jan 31, so I will lose any progress in February as I recover. I do get two weeks off work which is a bonus, but those two weeks will be spent drugged up and in pain! (I’m having my tonsils out as well as a septoplasty and turbiectomy to assist my sleep apnea).
Still off the ciggies! I calculate that as 19 days = $190 saved. Yeah!

and there’s 7 pages of Ugg Boot spam comments to moderate hahahahaha.
this is going to be a big year for me. by the end of the year i hope to be maintaining a comfortable weight, be preparing to move back to my hometown in adelaide, have saved several thousand dollars and then travelled to south, central and north america with it and to still be not smoking. I quit the cigs (again) on new years day and its been rough going but I’m proud to say that 10 days later, still smoke free. If I want to save enough to go overseas in September, I really cant afford to be smoking. Plus if I want to hike the Inca Trail I need all the lung capacity I can get!
Last September I trailed off on Weight Watchers. I think I had a couple of bad weeks and was too scared to go weigh in and for some reason I just never ended up returning, depsite continuing to pay my membership fees. So I’m back in 2012 on plan, with my first weigh in tonight. I’ve been great all week, and have even fit in some gym/pool time, so I’m expecting good things (unless the lack of nicotine has messed with my metabolism). The two best things about being back on Weight Watchers is that I did not gain a single pound while I was off plan, which surprised the hell out of me but when I stepped on the scale I was the exact same weight as last September. And number two, my boyfriend has decided to join with me. He already blew his first week by consuming his weight in beer over the weekend, but when he pays attention he loses weight very quickly so I’m happy to have the head start. Besides which, he gets to eat a massive 58 points a day. I’m on 36 and jealous as hell. I have no idea how I will manage when I get down to 29!

I dont update much now I’m on WW because it doesnt seem to require the constant thought and obsession that South Beach did. I’m now at 107.1kg / 235lb. I have lost 10kg since my highest weight and 8 since my official WW starting weight. Not bad for 12 weeks!
Very much hoping to be at 90kg by Christmas, but 17kg is a big ask for 14 weeks. I’m really going to have to work out a way to exercise more (cos right now I lose without doing any) and see if that will kick it up a notch. Especially if I hit a dreaded plateau between now and then!
Also, today I only ate half a slice of cheesecake when I had a whole slice on my plate. Ifyou knew me and cheesecake, you’d know that is the biggest non-scale victory I’ve had so far. hahaha.

I weighed in last night. Lost another 1.2kg / 2.5lb. Hell yeah! I’m 111.3kg now. Only 1.5kg from my first WW appointed goal of 5% total body weight lost. If I dont get there by next Tuesday, I definitely will the week after - AND it will tip me over the 5kg lost mark. (According to WW anyway, I know my highest weight was 117)
Today I noticed my elastic waist skirt was a little looser. Maybe it was all in my head - I definitely cant see any changes in the mirror, but I’d like to think it was real! That weight I’ve lost had to have come from somewhere!

It’s been a long time since I’ve updated this blog. I ended up reaching 117kg / 257lb. My boyfriend got sick of my snoring and said I stopped breathing in my sleep so I booked in with a sleep disorder specialist. After a really uncomfortable night attached to wires and monitors, he told me I have severe sleep apnea and stop breathing 45 times per hour. The normal level is 3. The solution = lose weight and possibly get my tonsils taken out. If not, I go on a cpap machine and goodbye cute snuggle with my boyfriend forever.
I have two formerly obese friends who have lost a significant amount of weight recently, one lost over 40kg and one has lost over 15kg but is still only partway on her journey. They both did it through Weight Watchers and recommended it to me. So I sucked it up and went to a meeting. It’s all very simple science, calories in vs calories out calculated using a point system. What I like most is that I dont have to make special foods or restrict anything, as long as I keep within my points range I can use it up however I like. And its working! I have had three weigh-ins and lost 3.1kg already (I started WW at 115.6kg). My first WW appointed mini-goal of 5% bodyweight is within sight (109.6kg). I weigh in again tonight and I feel thinner so I’m expecting at least another 1kg / 2lb. I even exercised yesterday, taking a swing dancing class.
Its finally just clicking with me. I see birthday cake at work and I dont have guilty feelings about whether or not to eat it. I know I can if I want to, but I know if I do my dinner will have to be salad to keep within my points range and its not really worth it. I dont use my weekly points, but its nice having them there if I need them. I dont have to freak out if I havent prepared lunch for work, because I know I can go downstairs and get something from the cafe and still be on plan. Its not cheap, at $50 a month, but its working for me and I want to keep going. The weekly weigh-ins really inspire me not to stray off plan, knowing that I will be held accountable in front of my group.
Anyway, I track daily online and on my iphone app but heres a sample of what I ate today.
B: 2 slices rye bread (4) 2 tsp WW canola spread (1) 2 tsp vegemite (1) apple juice (2)
L: 1 1/3 c basmati rice (6) chickpea curry (4)
for dinner I’ll probably have baked potatoes with cheese and coleslaw. yum!

so far this cookbook is proving to be a winner. i feel really good about expanding my food horizons and eating ingredients i dont normally eat - which is great because i definitely get stuck in cooking ruts and the more i can grow my cooking skills the more likely i will be to make dinner rather than order pizza.
last night we had Cajun Spaghetti & Beanballs which Aaron said he liked. i dont fully believe him but he ate it all! i normally douse my pasta in parmesan so it was a new experience to actually be tasting the pasta and not just “stinky cheese”.
tonight i made Hottie Black Eyed Peas & Greens. i dont think ive ever eaten any of the ingredients before - black eyed peas, silverbeet and tabasco. it was so simple to make but so tasty! made my belly all warm.
about to make a taco salad for lunch tomorrow. glad that i have leftover in the fridge cos i have a laser hair removal appointment tomorrow night. getting my underarms done in time for the fiji holiday!

In the first week on phase two of South Beach I found out we got our new apartment and we had one week to move. I only lost 800grams that week, and then with the stress of moving and cleaning/defrosting fridges I was lucky to grab a Sub or a bowl of noodles for dinner for abouit three weeks. I also quit smoking, although lately I’ve been sneaking more than I care to admit.
So I gained back all the weight I had lost, and kept on gaining. As of today I am 117kg. Yes, I gain at an unnaturally fast pace, thanks to PCOS and a carb-high vegetarian diet. I’m working my way through a low-fat whole foods based vegan cookbook called Appetite for Reduction in an effort to shed a few kilos before our trip to Fiji in mid-June. I have two months. I can do it.

day one on phase two. i ate carbs and didnt die!
b: scrambled tofu with red onion, mushroom, zucchini and red capsicum + 1 slice wholegrain toast
s1: mixed nuts
l: mixed salad with marinated tofu (i have eaten this every day at work, i wanna change it up but i need my veg!)
s2: semi-ranch dip and veggie crudites
d: 2 soy sausages, 1 fried egg, cheesy artichokes (from the sb cookbook) and broc cauli gratin (with 1tbsp wholemeal flour in the roux)
ds: sugar free passionfruit jelly
soy sausages, fried eggs & vegetables have become my comfort dinner food. its delicious, on plan and easy to make. i feel like i should switch it up a bit, have some salad for dinner and maybe more protein at lunch. something to consider. anyway, im in the middle of cooking beans so i can make chilli tomorrow, excited to be able to have a tortilla with it!
in other news, i was a ball of nervous energy all day waiting for word on our apartments. i got the first call of the day early, on the house lowest on the list, that we knew already had an application pending. we missed out but the agent was keen on finding us something else, he sent us two new apartments to consider that arent really within our criteria. then the agent for the two story townhouse with the catdoor called, to check if i would be breaking my lease for this new place. i told her i was and she gave me some secret advice that if my agents advertise my place for more than im paying, i can get out of my lease without paying until they find a new tenant. she also said they told her i was an excellent tenant and she just had to check my work references but that we had basically been approved for the house. which is cool cos that place was third on our list, the only things we didnt like about it were that it looks like it will be hot in summer (no aircon), the wall colours are terrible and there doesnt seem to be much in the area in terms of supermarkets and amenities. Also it doesnt have a dishwasher. But it has a balcony and a yard, close to public transport and by far the biggest rooms of all the places we inspected. I still want that Preston apartment soooo badly. The first place we applied for was meant to get back to us by Tuesday, and they havent - plus the place has been taken off the website, so I assume we dont have it. Tomorrow I will have to call the agent for the place we want and find out if we are in the running so I know if we can accept this place we are being approved for. They changed the website profile to say “application pending” but we dont know if its our application. I have my heart set on that place, i will be really upset if we dont get it. I have been decorating it in my mind
PRAY FOR ME!

weigh-in day! i lost 1.2kg. i am happy with that considering i didnt do any exercise, not even dance class since i had a doctors appointment.
now i am officially in phase two. i am nervous about adding carbs and fruit back into my diet. so far this has really been working for me and i dont want bread and pasta and rice to stall my progress. i am going to have a little bit of rice tonight with my chickpea curry and tomorrow i will have a slice of bread with breakfast. i think that will be my limit for this week, a bit of bread and fruit. i gotta say, the south beach cookbook i borrowed from the library is pretty useless. i cant use any of the meat recipes, which take up a huge portion of the book, since im a vego. also, there are HEAPS of recipes in there that are phase 3, and so they are irrelevant for me. plus, so many of the phase 2 recipes focus on starches, so you could probably only make one per day, which again isnt that great since you need to be avoiding starch for the rest of your meals.
anyway, it will be interesting to see my progress this week with carbs reintroduced. i will have to step up my game on exercise for sure.
ps> whats with all the spam comments? i had one for a “fuck machine”? no thanks.

ahhhh only one day left on phase one. looking forward to having some fruit and a piece of toast with breakfast. tomorrow is my weigh in. I am being much more realistic about this second weigh in. I am hoping for one kg lost, that seems realistic since I’ve been on plan all week (although I have had more sugar free soda than is probably recommended, but it was a treat in lieu of popcorn at the movies). Last night we went to a housewarming party for a friend and I couldnt drink or eat chips and biscuits, but she did bring out a plate of edamame so I scoffed a whole plate hahaha.
We went looking for new apartments today. We overslept and had to race to the first one so I didnt get breakfast, but we stopped at a corner shop and I got some almonds and a bottle of water. Then t lunch we stopped at a kebab shop and I ate 4 of the best felafels I’ve ever had in my life! Normally they are so gritty but these were smooth and fresh and sooo good. Even Aaron said they were excellent and he doesnt like felafel. Cooking dinner now, gonna make parmas out of vegan schnitzels and have some veggies roasting. I havent eaten enough veggies today but it was hard with such an unstructured day.
As for the apartments, we fell in love with this brand new apartment five minutes up the road from where i live now. Its in our price range, two bedrooms, dishwasher, heating/cooling in every room and a cute balcony. I want it so bad! We looked at a townhouse/unit type place that was ok, it had a decent garden area and was quite large but gross bathroom and a bit rundown, plus a little further out than I would have wanted. We saw a nice two-story place that already had a cat door, and lots of space with a balcony and a garden but it looks like it would be boiling hot in summer. The last place we saw was this disgusting apartment filled with mould that stank. Every person walked out of there shaking their heads, I dont think anyone will be applying! We were lined up for the first apartment of the day, a ground floor version of a really new modern place Aaron checked out on Thursday that we already applied for, but the estate agent hadnt turned up after ten minutes so we went to the inspection for the place we loved and were the only ones there. After we saw that place, we walked back to the car and everyone lined up for the first place were STILL waiting for the agent to turn up. I am so glad we bailed and found our dream apartment. I really hope we get it, but I’m a little worried about breaking my lease on my current apartment. My rent agreement says if I do, I have to pay out one and a half weeks rent to cover advertising and pay until they find a new tenant. Which actually probably wont take that long, since my apartment is cheap and in a great area, plus its quite large for the price. Fingers crossed both for my weigh in tomorrow and for approval on our dream place!
