Doing the unexpected!

From probably first grade until Senior year of high school I had to complete ‘the mile’ every year as part of a physical fitness test. It was the most humiliating thing for me. An overweight girl trying to run while her physically fit friends jog past her? Definitely not good for the self-esteem. Needless to say I was never able to do it. I always ended up walking and typically came in last. Some might say “1 mile? That’s not even hard” But believe me, for me, it was.

Anyway, I’ve been going to the gym lately, and I typically run 3 times a week. I started off with just as much as i could do, then moved to 1 mile, then 1.25 miles. Today I was supposed to begin running 1.5 but while I was doing it, I felt the sudden urge to continue. Well I did! Today I ran 2 miles without stopping for the first time in my entire life and I feel fantastic (@ 4.5 speed)! I’m so incredibly proud of myself. Granted it’s the treadmill and not outdoors but hey, it’s more than I could ever do before so I’m okay with it.

So the workout has been going well but the food situation has been eh. I have the urge to snack at night and it’s not good! I’m fine in the afternoons but after dinner I crave chocolate or something crunchy like chips. Of course I don’t go crazy though. Everything I have is 100 cals or less so it’s not like i’m eating a pint of ice cream every night, but it would be nice if I didn’t feel hungry after dinner. I’m okay with have a snack after dinner, but I prefer it to be just one thing and then be satisfied. It’s so frustrating!!

I’m skipping the gym tomorrow since I have a pretty full day but back to the gym on Thursday! Who knows, maybe I’ll run another 2 miles :). I’m so grateful that Shirley goes to the gym w/ me. It’s really awesome to have a gym buddy who keeps you motivated and makes you work hard!

motivation:I love the high I get after going to the gym. Just knowing that I accomplished something is rewarding. I love being able to put that little x on my calendar that says “yup, I went to the gym today!”

I ran 1.25 miles straight today. I’m super proud of myself!! I really want to be able to run 1.50 by next Saturday so that’s my goal!

I feel good except that every time I work out I have a headache afterwords 🙁 I don’t know why. I think it’s called an exertion headache. I’ll have to look into it more.
