It's Sunday morning, so I'm probably too late on the advice train, but I say ask him to do something, but not dinner or drinks, something athletic and fun--bowling, skating (ice or roller), a hike and lunch, a museum. I say to invite him to something like this because if it is long term, my old fashioned, southern self says that the man is still the initiator and the one who picks up the check, but this way, you get to hang out, talk, and do something fun and physical--you can tell a lot about a person by how much fun they have and how silly they can be. The 8 mile hike really isn't that big of a deal as long as it's not a steep hike. Ask them what the terrain level is and the rating (flat, steep, rolling, easy, moderate, hard) and if it's just a moderate hike with flat or rolling terrain, I say go for it--and no need to buy $100 pants--go to TJ Maxx or another store and find some Columbia nylon pants, with pockets and what not; most of them turn into shorts, etc and can be found for under $30. No matter, you are on your way to being a hiker--awesome!

I agree, start with some less challenging hikes first. Haven't dated in eons, so sorry, can't say if it's time for you to initiate something. I dunno, maybe if it was feeling right for you this wouldn't be a big decision...

A hiking partner is definitely a must. Nothing ever good comes out having a pretty woman in a pretty remote area. It's just asking to be in a "Cold Case File" episode or something. I know, I know, I watch too much TV.

I got nothing in the terms of whether it is the right time to take the turn in asking out match guy...your right. Been married for going on 18 years. But I will say, always being the one to suggest entertainment and plan it in my own marriage is annoying! I get on Dh about that all the time. But my instinct says to ask...what have you got to lose? your right, if he says no...you got your answer. But it probably won't be so cut and dry.

Those hikers sound serious. Perhaps they are worried someone might need to survive in the wilderness for a period of time if they get lost. Perhaps you should brush up on watching episodes of "survivor man" before you go! LOL

Glad you are getting a chance to see SBFF. :)

Sounds like serious hiking, but perhspa the recommend that stuff just in case, ya know? better be safe than sorry. You are a pink girl.. I am a purple girl! :D or even pretty blue.

I must admit I kepth thinking Bob as Battery Operated BF as well , but I was polite and held my tongue :D I am glad Connnie said it. :P What about calling him Fred, or Rock, or Gunter or just your Jungle Stud? :D

I am sort of on the fence about your asking him out. On one hand, yes if he wanted to see you he would ask you but perhaps he is wanting to see if YOU'll take some initiative. You might mention you are looking to go to a show and see if he can recommend any, has he been to any? That might open up a conversation with him saying he's always wanted to see this or that show and then you can jump on that?

This is why I suck at dating. You shouldn't listen to me anyway.
