Encouragement is AWESOME

                                               Book Cover

DH and I have worked out at the same gym for the past year.  We are talking 5:45 every morning, 4-5 times a week.  Prior to the last week, no one has ever really acknowledged my existence, whatsoever.  It is 5:45 in the morning but lately I’ve had four different individuals come up to me and compliment me on my dedication to the gym, how well I’m looking, etc.  I find this awesome but it’s like “what am I doing now that people are noticing compared to months ago?”.    Well, I’m more organized that I used to be.  I bought this book to log my workouts a month ago and I love it.  It helps me keep an orderly flow when working out.  I set up my workout prior to going to the gym.  3 legs, 2 chest, 2 back, 1 shoulder, and 3 core with a set of 3 each and 10-12 reps.  It could be because I feel confident too in the gym now.  I know what I’m doing for the most part.  I never do the same routine but mix different things in.  I’m also doing a nice run/walk now so it’s helping me challenge myself for the better and dealing more with the mental part of working out because before my mantra was “I can’t do that” but now it’s like “I can do it but maybe need to modify”. Anyways, it’s awesome to hear all the encouragement lately because that goes a long ways.

With the first coming around, I expect the gym to be packed.  Nothing wrong with that because we’ve all made those New Years resolutions but it will definetly be different for a while.  It’s kind of sad to see people quit after a while, so try not to be one of “those people”.  I’m really busy during the week but you can make it work…really!  Make working out a priority for YOU because YOU are so worth it.  Have an awesome day! Kellie

I was able to handle Christmas with grace but let me tell you…

Cheat Meals No Comments »

I was able to handle Christmas with no problem.  MIL has celiac disease so I knew that all the food would be all healthy.  I ate well, no major miss ups, etc.  Then my cheat meal was yesterday.  I started off by eating a piece of chocolate, then worked out (major hard workout too), had my cheatmeal which was a greasy spoon cheeseburger, shared some fries with hubby, snack of tortilla chips and cheese, then dinner I had chicken burrito sans the shell, but the choice I knew better was the Evan Williams Egg Nog.  Yeah, just googled it and found out that it is 400 calories a cup.  Yup, totally knew better but it was good.  I guess that’s my egg nog for the season.

Though, yesterday gave me insight.  I need to use these cheat days or actually meals more wisely  so that it’s not a bloody free for all.  It’s a more controlled cheat.  Maybe I was making up for the lack of splurging at Christmas but I know that next week, I will be making better choices on my cheat meal day.

I still go to Weight Watchers for support and the scale.  I hit it yesterday and I am down to 184!  Awesome!  I have been on the plan since 11.30.09 and down 7lbs.  Yeah!  Here’s to another good week-Kellie

How is this time going to be different?

So how many of you have been out there struggling with their weight your whole life? or it just feels that way? Well, that’s me. I was placed on my first “diet” at the age of 9, in the 5th grade. I attended a TOPS meeting with my moms friend. I don’t remember losing weight except getting a charm bracelet. Then in the sixth grade after my family doctor noted that I was obese at the time. During my young tween to early teen years, I tried the cabbage soup diet, the hospital diet, and the rotation diet. I was never obese, just a few pounds overweight but in my mind, I felt that I was fat. The sad thing is in that point in my life, I wasn’t really fat. I really had a body image problem that was perpetuated by others opinions of myself. All I could focus on is how big my thighs were at that time because I got called a pear a lot in school…skinny waist, hippy thighs, and narrow shoulders. I graduated high school at 132 lbs. I hit college and it was out of control eating wise. I was not accustomed to having the smorgasbord of food that was available to me. Thus, I gained 100 pounds in 5 years. I went from 135 to 235! Oh, I was also depressed and in a lazy relationship. In 2002, I decided to do two things, get out of the relationship and lose the weight. I went from 235 in January 2002 to 158 in June of 2003. I loved it. Then I met my current husband and my weight slowly creeped back even though I was half heartedly doing WW. I topped the scales a few weeks ago at 192 and knew I needed to make some changes. Four gains in four weeks does not make a happy Kellie.

My husband and I have been working out at the gym for the past year and the scale did go down some but I was missing the nutrition aspect of the program. No matter how good my workouts are, if my nurtition is crap it doesn’t matter. That’s where I was. One of my friends introduced me the the Conquer the Fat Loss Code by Wendy Chant and I was hooked. I needed the structure in my life and going back to eating the non-processed foods. In 19 days I went from 192-186. Now I’m going to be blogging my journey. I’ve always found bloging to be a personal motivator and keeps me accountable. It worked before so lets see if it will work again.

I’m calling this journal the inner athlete because inside, I really feel like an athlete waiting to come out.  It’s just been under some insulation lately.  I work out 6 times a week, 3 days of full body, 1 day of walking, and 4 days of high instensity/low intensity work.  I recently started to run, which if you would have told me years ago that I would be running any length of distance I would have called you a liar.

As for personal stuff, I’m 34. No children yet, would like to get down to a normal weight on my body before trying, and we are really enjoying our life right now.  We’ve been married for 5 years now.  Hobbies include camping, backpacking, traveling to national parks, hitting microbreweries, and working out. I have a pretty intense job working with children and families but I love what I do. It’s nice to meet you and thanks for stopping by.
