PROMISES TO MYSELF - from a few posts ago - No Candy from the reception desk jar - Check! No impromptu snacks when Product Development brings over a plate of something yummy - Check*! No yogurt before bed - Check! Tracking - Check**!
*PD Goodies - I cut off a small bite from a plate of samples in the cafeteria this afternoon, then remembered this promise to myself and turned and left the room without eating it.
**The tracking problem - For the past year I tracked my food intake daily and my exercise. Then a month or so ago I decided to stop tracking my walking because I thought it made me too complacent, and maybe I wasn’t really burning calories when I walk. This is pretty silly when I think of it since 195 lbs is 195 lbs and takes effort to move, but that’s what I thought. I stopped placing value on the constant, vigorous walking I do. Go figure.
EXERCISE - Shoot me, but I do not labor in a gym, at any time of year. Been there, done that, nothing wrong with it but it’s not my preference.
I walk (often vigorously), hike, shovel, schlep boxes of books, occasionally lift free weights, practice Tai Chi and Yoga and stretching. I’m blessed with a genetically strong body and am oddly fairly fit. Mostly I walk, at least 45 minutes a day, usually twice that. On weekends I’m likely to walk or hike 3 or 4 hours outside.
As my weight has dropped and there’s less strain and pain in my knees, I often jog, keeping in mind this is winter in Maine and frequently icy or snowy or both so the footing doesn’t lend itself to all out effort. The beach offers sand, so the footing there is best and most mornings I do pushups, stretches and Tai Chi form on the beach and breakwater.
So a few days ago I started tracking the time spent walking again and I’m now much more motivated to track. WIN WIN I think!
Does anyone else abhor gyms?
