a red star day

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Today’s Weight= 281.8 (-1.4)

This morning, I have 47 stars for this month in the w8challenge. I really set out for a Red Star which is 50 yellow stars. SO I’ve set my gym appts. One at 11:30am for an hour and one at 5pm for an hour, and I’m gonna eat right today so I get that silly virtual star!

Tomorrow morning I’m gonna compare my weigh-in from April 1st to May 1st and see for the first time what I’ve done in a month vs a week. And probably go back even further and see how the previous months have done. I’m wondering if the w8challenge has influenced me a bit. And even if it hasn’t made much difference, it’s a great little tool for me to easily track what I’ve done, and just alot of fun to see what everyone else is doing.

I’ve already decided to try to beat out April’s challenge by 10% in May’s challenge, mostly focusing on more eating right days.

Last but not least, I was thinking to also do measurements tomorrow, too!

Updated @ 8:30 pm~ Well, I did it, so long as I don’t eat anymore tonight, except fruit and water.

Today’s Exercise= 14 min bike, 45 min elliptical, 61 min treadmill

I’ve ate right 15 out of the 30 days this month, and exercised 35 hours.

Yesterday’s Weight= 281.6 (+.4)

Yesterday’s Exercise= 120 abdominal, 60 arm curls, 45 butterfly, 45 calf lifts, 60 leg presses, 60 leg extensions, 75 lat pull down, squats, 40 min treadmill

Today’s Weight= 283.2 (+1.6)

Today’s exercise= 4 min stairmaster, 15 squats with 4lb ball, 30 abdominal, 30 min elliptical, 22 min treadmill

I think tomorrow’s TOM. I’ve got some serious blues going on today. I’m disappointed in my son. I think he’s gonna fail a class or two this year. I’m done pushing him to catch up. He can go to summer school if that’s how it goes. At this rate he doesn’t deserve a summer break. In the meantime, he’s also home with flu-like symptoms. No fever, but a runny nose, a mild irritable cough. His friend that carpools with us also has it, so neither of them probably won’t go to school the rest of this week. People are nervous about the swine flu.

A friend of my husband called from jail and while we can’t pick up his towed car, I’m asked to go check on his cat tomorrow. I’ve never been in the house before and never met his roommate so I wonder how that’s gonna go.

I dragged my butt at the gym and even took the elevator upstairs. (OOOH a classic FAT chick NO-no) I didn’t care….atleast I was there! Another self imposed classic NO-no thing I did was SIT on a machine in front of the elliptical machines I wanted, while I waited for one to free up. The ones with the tvs are upstairs and the room downstairs was HOT due to faulty a/c, so I wasn’t about to negotiate especially since I didn’t really want to do anything anyways. Once on the elliptical, I made it through 30 minutes while watching for a treadmill to open up. It paused NUMEROUS times, due to my RPM being too slooooow.

I just barely got through the day without messing up my food intake. Eh… one of those days. Days like these make it hard to believe tomorrow will be any better.

sad day

This user has elected to delete their account and the content is no longer available.

Of course, a ‘good day’ blog entry would be followed by a ’sad day’ blog entry. Joy mentioned in her blog that yesterday sterlings’ blog was removed. I had just thought this morning of something I wanted to share with someone from the blog and was going to link it but forgot to do it. I was also thinking that I’m pretty sure I’ve seen blogs go more than a month of no updates and still remain ‘active’ by 3FC. Sterling herself removed her blog? Utterly confusing and sad. I wish we could’ve had some closure, bid her farewell, wish her well. Many of us have wondered if she was hurt, sick, or something. Surely she must’ve gotten the communications sent via blogs and emails. But no reply.

I can say, though, I have left a situation behind before so I guess I can say I somewhat understand.

I’m glad to have copied the posts before it poofed! I hope she did, too, because she had alot of really good stuff! I guess I really have to go in and remove her link from my blogroll, now….

A Final Farewell to you sterling! Congrats for all of your success and acheivements. Wishing you and yours all of the best. Thanks for all of your support, encouragement, and advice! You will be missed.

good days

Yesterday’s Weight= 280.6 (-1.0)

Today’s Weight= 281.2 (+.6)

Today’s Exercise= 60 min lite workout class, 63 min elliptical, 30 min treadmill

Yesterday was a rest day. I didn’t go to the gym and I enjoyed food at the Church in the Park. I’m glad I only gained a half a pound, as I tend to gain more than that on a rest day. Church in the park was really nice. The weather was comfortable; a little cool and breezy in the shade in the morning but then the sought after spot a couple hours later. Nice crowd, lots of food, good times. I didn’t hear the message much because the kids were distracting and I spent alot of time keeping them occupied. Hubby didn’t hear it much either because he spent alot of time with the grilling crew. Quite a few guests showed up, and one lady stood to receive Christ, so mission accomplished. It was only 4 hours but during the drive home, all was quiet; all was tired.

I tried another class this morning. They call it Lite Workout. The older folks, the fat folks and the fat ’n older were the crowd for this one. It was a workout to me. Not nessecarily a lite one. I couldn’t tell you which was easier or harder, Lite Workout or BodyCombat. I was slow, uncoordinated, and sweating in both, but again mission accomplished! I did notice myself being a little slower than the other day and the legs kind of hurt. Maybe from the previous class, maybe from squats. I’m pretty much sore often these days but because of exercise and not from being so overweight and so out of shape. How nice to start getting away from that excuse.

FREE leg, thigh, 2 tortillas and salsa at El Pollo Loco. Tuesday April 28th only. No purchase nessecary.

BodyCombat

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Yesterday’s Exercise= 60 minute BodyCombat class, 20 min elliptical, 5 min treadmill, squats

Today’s Weight= 281.6 (-2.2)

I did my first class yesterday afternoon, BodyCombat. It’s an hour class. I actually didn’t start getting tired until the last 20 minutes. Then in the end she had us do stretches and push ups and I don’t think that’s part of the Bodycombat portion. Maybe just the way she wraps up a class. I think that end part is what really got me. I thought I’d be really sore today but maybe that’s tomorrow? I do feel a bit achy and stiff but not as bad as I expected. I am so grateful there was another oversized woman and a couple other newbies there because I felt pretty silly some of the time. I was a couple beats behind everyone in the kicking and punching steps. If they did four knee lifts, I only got in 2 before we were onto the next step. I think did pretty good, though. I finished the class. I felt like everyone was thinking “She’s not doing bad” and “She’s still going”. That’s what I thought, anyways.

updated @ 2pm~

I actually was planning to do bodypump today. Yesterday’s class went right into that but my time was limited because of childcare rules. Then today, I decided to put off BodyPump for another day. I have a Church In The Park outing to do tomorrow. We volunteered to be part of the crew that grills burgers. It’ll be interesting to see the band set up outside and hear the music going outside. We passed out flyers in the area inviting people to come join us and stay for lunch. Anyways, I don’t wanna be overdoing it and be too sore tomorrow by doing a BodyPump class today.

I did still go to the gym but I did elliptical and treadmill instead. Tomorrow will be my rest day so now that I’ve gotten today’s workout done, that all starts now! :D I’ve been doing alot, I need a break.

Brseay- I will be drinking more water now that you mentioned it. Thanks for the tip and reminder. I’m starting to think my body handles everything really well now and maybe doesn’t get sore like it used to? Of course, I hate to say things to quickly… We’ll see.

delita~ YES! I can see how excited you are for me and I love that. Now you’re making me all excited and giddy too. Thank you

susan~ you always make me laugh. I love the visual of you standing there surprised while everyone’s facing you.

firefly~ Thanks. It would be hilarious if the whole class was full of people like us. With everyone getting it wrong, the instructor would be the one who was lost and frustrated!

Today’s Exercise= 67 min elliptical, 23 min treadmill

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Today’s Weight=283.8 (-.4)

This weeks’ loss/gain= 0.0 lbs.

I was up 3 lbs last week. I gained another 4 lbs this week but then managed to turn it around in time for the weigh-in today, so for this week I broke even. Atleast I’m on the downward path again.

From one of the books’ sterling suggested, The Eat Clean Diet (for family & Kids):

Tosca’s TOP 10 Instant kitchen makeovers

Substitute:

1. SEA SALT for regular table salt - Traditionally harvested from the sea, true salt contains 82 naturally occurring elements and minerals required by the body. Most free-running table salt today has been stripped of these components down to the basic sodium and chloride.

2. AGAVE NECTAR (or honey) for sugar

3. UNREFINED WHOLE-WHEAT FLOUR for white flour

4. BROWN RICE for white rice

5. OATMEAL for sugary cereals

6. WATER for juice and pop

7. 75% OR MORE DARK CHOCOLATE for milk chocolate

8. OLIVE OIL for ordinary vegetable oil

9. EGG WHITES for whole eggs

10. NATURAL NUT BUTTERS for commercially prepared peanut butter

whole lotta exercise

Today’s Weight= 284.2 (-.8)

I exercised alot today. It made me hungry. I ate alot and it wasn’t all good. I tried. I had too many pretzels and chocolate again. Atleast I got in my water, flax seed and vitamins. And some (but not enough) fruits and veggies.

I’m hoping my weigh-in tomorrow shows a loss for the week, but I don’t think I can count on it. I’m starting to wonder if I have to go back to tracking food and/or counting calories. I really hope not. But I can’t keep doing all of this exercise and eating the way I am and not getting better results. I’m also thinking I’m a slave to the scale, but at this point I need it to keep me in line a bit.

I’m liking the exercise. I went to the gym twice today. I’m ready to take a class. I’ve been pouring over the schedules of the various gym locations and trying to figure out which one I’m going to do. Hopefully tomorrow’s the day. That was the plan. So far I’m planning lite step, zumba, or bodycombat. I’ll let you know!

Today’s exercise=

Trip one: 42 min elliptical, 18 min treadmill, 30 min walk.

Trip two: 45 min elliptical, 15 min weights (abdominal and calf lifts)

I did it! Made through one day.

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Yesterday’s Exercise= 7 min elliptical (waiting for a treadmill to open up), 77 min treadmill, squats

Today’s Weight=285.0 (-2.8)

I did it. I got through yesterday without caving to the many temptations that came along: coffee, chocolate, pretzels, coke, Sonic, junk at the store, junk at the gas station, Marie Callendar’s pie @ Smith’s on and on… Although, I did have some chocolate covered esprosso beans that were in the trail mix. I didn’t even realize it until it was too late. I guess the chocolate I was really trying to avoid was the Easter candy I bought last week. I bought $120 worth of it when it was 75% off. We keep a bowl of it on top of the tv. it’s too easy to stop and eat some! Yesterday, I actually covered it, so I wouldn’t have to look at it.

A couple things I read in Dietgirl yesterday, I wanted to share.

“My lard busting is back on track with a two and a half pound loss. I know I’ll get there if I keep doing all these positive things. Weight loss isn’t about willpower or motivation; it’s just the cumulative effect of tiny actions over time. You just have to keep picking yourself up when you fall, over and over again, for however long it takes.”

“I was ready to downplay the whole day and dismiss it as a freak accident. But I’ve reminded myself countless times during my journey, you can’t compare your achievements to anyone’s elses. All you can do is compare where you’ve been and where you are now, and what you chose to do in between.”

Yesterday’s Weight= 285.0 (-1.4)

Yesterday’s Exercise= 25 min treadmill, 20 min elliptical, 150 abdominal, 80 leg extensions, 60 lat pull down, 45 arm curls, 45 calf lifts, 60 leg presses, 15 butterfly

Today’s Weight= 287.8 (+2.8)

OK so it’s Tuesday. Hubby returned to work today, after a weeks’ vacation. I’ve eaten right once out of the past 7 days. Good thing I am still exercising. I’m having a hard time getting the food straight. Today’s goals are to keep it fresh. NO snackin on chocolate, Coke, or pretzels. Gotta focus on the good stuff. Gotta get in my water, veggies, fruits, and vitamins. I know that once it gets rolling, it’s easier and even enjoyable to stick to. Just gotta push my way through it until then.

edited… the above was written last night… as it turns out he did NOT return to work today. In fact, the reason behind his feelings of being exahusted turned out to be some sort of flu coming on. He slept 14 of the last 17 hours, has aches, a low fever, no appetite, and overall feeling of being exhausted. I HOPE I don’t get it. I’ve been sick twice this year and I usually don’t get sick much.

I’m sticking to the plan of getting it right. I’ve already rejected the temptations of chocolate, coke, and pretzels this morning and it’s only 10:30am. I’m still eating alot. It could be recent habit, PMS, and/or anxiety. But instead, I’ve had raisin bran, eggs with a little ham, cuties, and cottage cheese with flax seed.

I’ve been thinking over my self-imposed goal to get a red star (50 stars) in the w8challenge for the month of April. I’ve got 27.5 so far. With only 9 days left in the month, the plan is to eat right 8 of those days, and exercise 90+ min 8 of those days, in order to acheive the red star.

Wish me success!

fun in the sun

Yesterday’s weight= 286.6!

Yesterday’s exercise= hours of walking

Today’s weight= 286.4 (-.2)

My husband just said he must be eating too much junk because ‘he is just exhausted.’ I’ve been extra tired and lazy today too. We’re mentally preparing for the upcoming week. Leaving behind the weeks’ vacation of hanging out at home. It’s had its’ moments. I think we rented about 10 Redbox movies. We hardly watcha movie a month, but this week we watched atleast one a day.

I did manage to eat right and get extra exercise yesterday, but today got canned with the cotton candy from yesterday’s Children’s Festival. They have it every year. I went last year because of my husband urging. He had to work and couldn’t take them. He used to be the one who takes them to these things because I was inactive, fat and lazy. I’m still fat but not inactive or lazy. I saw the sign the day before and immediately planned to go. Big difference in a year. Although Joey is a real pain in the butt lately so I left him home with the hubby and took the 5 yr old. It was good to spend time alone with him. The weather was really nice, a little warm in the sun, but perfect in the shade. We had a picnic. We were there about 3.5 hours. I got a little sunburnt.

Last but not least, Josh took this picture of the camel.
