Who am I?

I am a 42 year old female, married for 19 years and have one child who is 12.  Growing up I participated in social sports but never school sports and am getting an education as my son plays all sports known to man and loves them all.  I have struggled with my weight all my life and a couple years ago took up running.  I started training for a 10K and never looked back.  I ran several 1/2 marathons and a 25K in 2011 then injured my back in the spring of 2012.  I was never a thin runner – always over 200lbs but could run the distance using a run/walk ratio.  Since the back injury I have put on 30+ pounds and find it difficult to get back into anything.  I still have pain in my lower back but I know I will be back to running again.

When I weighed in at 247 pounds (biggest I have ever been) I decided to do something about it.  I went to the local hospital and signed up for the New Direction program (700 calorie liquid diet – I know…holy crap).  I started on 9/4/2012 and know that this will work for me.  I started this blog to track my trials and tribulations of this difficult diet.  It was no easy task to decide to do it.

So here I go……

Starting Weight:  247 (9/4/2012)
Long Term Goal Weight:  145-150
Short Term Goal Weight: 200
Next Race: RiverBank Run in Grand Rapids Michigan May 2013

Congrats on your decision to make a change. There is no easy way through this, just know those trials and tribulations will make you a stronger, healthier person, and know that there are others taking on this daunting journey as well. Good luck on your endeavors!
