why did i wait so long?

i guess this blog is about my journey with weight loss and getting healthy

About me October 11, 2008

hello, my name is Heidi, i am 31yrs old. I have 3 kids and a great hubby. we have been married almost 9yrs. I am a respiratory therapist and work midnights part time on the weekends. We are originally from Indiana, but moved to florida 5yrs ago. We left everything we ever knew behind to start fresh in this paradise. we love it, and have no regrets!  I have been over weight since I was about 21yrs old. I gained 80lbs with my first pregnancy and slowly crept up after that.  I got serious about my weight loss in april of this year (2008) because my twin sister started to lose weight. I guess it was a combination of a competative attitude and just finally realizing that I needed to stop the insanity!  I have lost 118lbs so far. My starting weight was about 305lbs. currently I weigh 187lbs.  My goal is to be 135-140lbs by fall of 09. every day is a struggle. I am so addicted to food. I am sure Im not alone.  I am trying to take it one day at a time and realize this is a life style change and has got to be for life. weight issues have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother was overweight and had numerous weight loss surgeries throughout her life. ultimately she passed away from complications from the gastric bypass surgery almost 6 yrs ago.  Obviously surgery is way out of the question for me, and so I have no choice but to get to a healthy weight the ‘old fashioned way’  and I want to be as healthy as I possibly can. I really appreciate life and want it to last as long as possible. I know we can not control our destiney’s entirely, but we do have some role In how we turn out.  We are the one’s who have the most power in our lives. I am taking control over my health and my life which is (other than my kids lives) the most important thing.  because without our health, what kind of life can we have? not a very happy one.  I already feel so much healthier and energetic. I think this change is as much about being healthy as it is about looking better. I hope this blog helps me to stay on track. How I’ve lost my weight so far: eating healthy foods like vegies fruit, turkey, chicken, fish, whole grains and tons of water. watch my calories, and work out 4-5 times a week. I “cheat” once a week which keeps me on track the rest of the time. I dont think we should deprive ourselves of our cravings for ever because eventually you will binge.  90% of the time I eat healthy whole food that i cook and prepare my self. i always try to think “is this good for my body? Is this going to benefit me? or is this just wasted calories?”.  I weigh myself once a week and have been loosing an average of about ten lbs a month.  I see my progress every day and I feel better every day.  Its time to take care of this one and only body i have. Its time to move forward and be healthy.  I now have the rest of my life to look forward to. I want to be here as long as possible to see my kids grow and have lives and children of their own. And I want to be able to enjoy that life with them, not just sit and watch and be miserable.  “nothing tastes as good as thin feels” 😀

Thank you for the inspiration. I too am addicted to food. Even though I just started last week, you really have inspired me to try and put forth more of an effort, but I have been heavy pretty much all my life, at least since elementary school and I am now realizing that I need to get it under control or I will have health issues. So thank you.

I love this. I noticed you started gaining weight at about age 21, then you got married. I had my first child when I was 21, and that’s when it really started for me. I just wasted 15 yrs by making it worse. I’m so glad I didn’t wait any longer. Thanks for the inspirations and the encouragements!

I just found your blog. I’m 31 with 3 kids. I had my first at 21 and gained 30 lbs of fat. I’ve gained a little more with each child. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation!

i was going through a moment of weakness and was thinking of eating something and stumbled upon this blog. I haven’t read much of it yet but I cannot wait to read all of the entries! I have so much in common with your situation.
