July…nothing lost, nothing gained…

in-the-club-on-the-ship.jpgSo July was a wash. Nothing lost, nothing gained. I guess it could be worse - I could have come out of the month having put on a ton of weight after all the “badness” I participated in during the month. August is a new month, though, and as of today, I’m down three more pounds, so I’m excited about that!

July’s activities included: A cruise, a trip to LA, and a “party” to purge my house of all the badness that shouldn’t be there. Here’s how they all turned out:

  • paula-and-jordan.jpgThe Cruise: The cruise was absolutely great! It was four days, from LA to Ensenada, Mexico. I made some new friends (hi Lynett, hi Jordan), ate some great food (I LOVE CHURROS), got waited on hand and foot, experienced a new cruise line, Royal Carribean (I usually cruise Carnival), saw a different part of Mexico (been to the East side a few times, never the west), had a few good drinks, and tried to remember and keep my SB principles somewhat intact. The food was absolutely great, our first night on the ship we had “honey stung” chicken. Man it was good! Their burgers were good too; I tried to stay in line with SB and had mine with no bread. They were still tasty. Most of the people on the ship were from LA, and most were very friendly.
  • Los Angeles, California: LA is a beautiful city. I loved the scenery, the mountains, and most notably, the climate. When we were there, it was like 80 during the day and 60 at night. I LOVED IT, especially because in Atlanta it was just HOT and MISERABLE. The two things I didn’t like about LA was the traffic (JUST LIKE ATLANTA) and the men (where are they???? I didn’t see many, but I really didn’t see many black men). I date men of all races, but it was disappointing to not see many of my brothers out there. I’m sure they’re there, but where? I did see some cuties of other races, too — there was this guy who was Asian and he was very very nice. He was HOT too :). I had also heard that people in LA are very unfriendly and phony. Maybe it was where I went, but I didn’t experience that at all. Most everyone was very very friendly, helpful, and nice. We stayed not too far from the airport, in El Segundo (and no I didn’t leave my wallet there like A Tribe Called Quest did, lol). We went to Venice Beach one of the days we were there, which was very interesting. I saw people smoking “herbal goodness” out in public!!!! It looks like “anything goes” in Venice Beach, though, so I guess it wasn’t anything new. We also visited the Walk of Fame, Hollywood (Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles was great!), and drove through Beverly Hills. I got to see Queen Latifah’s star on the Walk of Fame! I wanted to see Will Smith’s but didn’t make it. We also had pizza one night in Santa Monica, which was good. After that we went to see Hancock (which was hilarious)! It was also nice to see a movie with my boyfriend Will Smith in it. :)
  • The “Purge” Party: My dad came to visit me last month and when he was here, he brought a ton of freshly caught Arkansas/Mississippi River Catfish. If you’ve never had it, there is NOTHING LIKE catfish from the Mississippi river. There’s something about it that makes it the best tasting catfish ever. And it can only be fried. So I saved one day to cook the catfish, along with some other goodies in my house that needed to go and I didn’t want to throw away. So I had fried catfish, fried wings, cucumber salad, fried corn, cherry cobbler, and double chocolate cookies during the party. I only ate one plate during the party! And two cookies~anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE COOKIES. Especially chcolate chip — or any variation of chocolate chip. I did drink quite a bit though during the party - I made pineapple rum punch and lemon drops (ketel one vodka and fresh homemade lemonade).

Considering that all this went on during July, not to mention Friday nights at MJQ’s where I drank entirely too much, I didn’t gain anything so I’m definitely happy about that. I want the scale to start moving again (which it did this morning) so I decided that I wasn’t going to drink any alcohol for the next 30 days. Last night was my first test, another Friday night at MJQ. I did have one drink, a vodka and diet coke. There will be no more drinking this weekend. Today I’ve done very well so far, I had a V8 for breakfast, pecans for a snack, a turkey wrap (turkey, sauteed onions, peppers, mushrooms, cheddar cheese on a whole wheat tortilla - quite tasty!) for lunch, and I’m making faux mojitos, steak diane, and tomato “pizzas” for dinner. I have also been having issues with the hours 2pm to 8pm during the week - when I get in the house after work I’m STARVING but it wasn’t quite time for dinner! I asked my friends at 3fc for help and I think I’ve found some solutions to my problem

Here’s to August! I want to be at or below 250 by month’s end! YES WE CAN!!!!

I’m attaching a few pics from my trip for your viewing pleasure, also…
