It doesn't matter that it's an animal, a pet becomes a member of your family and you grieve for them much the same. My old cat is 14 now and really showing her age. I'm sure it won't be long for her either. She was the first pet I ever owned myself after I moved away from my parent's home and I will weep when she goes. Congratulations on not turning to food for comfort! It shows more strength than you know! I understand your feelings of loss with your Cody. If you have followed my blog for any amount of time you know I have 12 dogs myself. My oldest is a brown chihuahua named Cody. He was 11 last month and he is looking it.
