Yesterday’s Interview

Posted by: sgregg In: Uncategorized

Yesterday’s interview didn’t seem all that great.  I walked in the principal’s office and he was busy typing something on his computer.  I had to make him shake my hand.  There was a woman in there also and she was just sitting there looking all awkward.  Anyway, after he finished what he was doing, he told me that she would be conducting the interview and he would be taking notes.  So, they asked a few generic questions and I answered them to the best of my ability.  Turns out there is a 3rd grade position and a 5th grade position.  The interview lasted all but 20 minutes and it wouldn’t have lasted that long if I wouldn’t have had questions to ask myself.  The principal said that they have a rating system.  Those that rate the highest will have a 2nd interview with the asst. principal and 2 other people.

I just did not feel that connection like I did at C school.  I hate that I feel that way, but something changed in me after visiting that school.  I just have to keep in mind that I need a local job now so I can afford to move later.

I hate that feeling after an interview that I just felt awkward about. Having someone just sit there and take notes is odd 🙂 Hopefully you will get a second interview or a call from somewhere else that is better.

Good luck in your interview process. I have been in the education field for 25 years — 21 teaching in classroom and the last 4 working with lots of schools in the area of school improvement. Alot can happen over the summer — position open up quickly, so keep looking. It is not unheard of for postions to open up in August! I hope something better comes along for you. It sounds like this school may not be the place for you. From all the schools I have been in, you REALLY can tell when you walk through the door of a school if good things are happening there. I know this sounds a little cliche’ — but it is true. It may be harder to judge when students are not there, but you can tell a lot by how office staff and others interact with the principal. Keep looking — you will find a school that is a match for you.
