Tonight is the Biggest Loser. Anybody want to join me in the 10 sit-ups/push-ups/jumping jacks per commercial? Not 10 of each… but just 10 reps of something. I’m going to do it, and I challenge you to do the same! Anyone up for it?

Mother’s Day Weekend…

May 11th, 2010 by funrun

How did ya’ll do over the MD weekend?

Friday - Went on a 5K run in with my son. At the end of this month, the 2 of us are doing a 5K race. He is 6 and so excited about running with me. I am pretty sure that I will be able to use him as a crutch this time around, because at least every kilometre he likes to take a little walking break! So, I will be “allowed” to walk along the route a little bit, too! For this run, we went around a local lake. It is very close to where the race will actually take place. I thought it was important to have a change of scenery so we don’t get bored of our route.

Friday night… dinner out with the girls to celebrate us women!! (5 friends got together for the May b-days and Mother’s Day). Probably not the greatest on the calorie scale, but I drank only water all night. So, that counts for something, eh?! I always think about what Jillian on the Biggest Loser says, “Don’t drink your calories.” Good advice.

Saturday - The kids stayed with my inlaws because my husband and I went to a work conference 3 hours away, stayed the whole day, then drove the 3 hours home. I was so exhausted!!!

Sunday - church, lunch at Subway, played with the kids at a park, came home and I had a 2 1/2 hour MD nap. Felt so good! Hubby made dinner and then we watched Celebrity Apprentice.

Monday - why can’t I even remember what I did yesterday!? Hubby is sick…. mundane day. Oh, but I ordered a subscription to a running magazine… looking for motivation and inspiration wherever I can get it!

Today - Little 150 cal. workout this morning, plus a handful of sit-ups and push-ups. Going out tonight, then coming home to watch The BL.

Most of all… I am LOVING the sunshine we are having right now. Natural Vitamin D… think I’ll go get me some right now :)  ☼

That’s how many calories I burned on my elliptical workout tonight. That was a lot of sweat. I feel great! I did a 45 minute pre-set routine that goes from difficulty 3 up to difficulty 10. It just works up and down and so you get cool downs and harder patches.  Then I did 20 minutes of stretching. The workout also meant 144 carbs burned.  Good work out.

Today should have been an outside run day, but it was HORRIBLE weather. My son’s school even got canceled because of high winds, and power outage. Ridiculous! This is May! Oh well, didn’t stop me from working out :)

It was my birthday on the weekend, so I really needed a good Monday workout to combat the bad eating. Well, one pretty bad meal and an ice cream cake. No, not the whole cake… but I think over 3 days I managed to down 3 pieces of it.  So, hence the big push on the elliptical.

Tonight we are going to watch The Celebrity Apprentice - we recorded it last night because I wanted to watch “Fools Gold” which we recorded from the night before!

Today’s food… not too bad…

Breakfast - Honey Toast and tea
Lunch -  1 1/2 hotdogs. 1 (small… very very small) piece of ice cream cake.
Supper - brown rice and seafood (YUMMY!!!! My husband made salmon and shrimp)

Lots of water today, too.

Have a great week, and all the best in your quest to be healthy! Tomorrow is the Biggest Loser - best show on TV to motivate me to lose weight, but more than that, to be the best I can be!

Good Run

April 27th, 2010 by funrun

I don’t seem to have much luck with my daily log… I know this blog is allowed to be a place to share the good, bad and the ugly in our daily routines, but at this point, I find it to be a reward for my good and positive actions to blog about my accomplishments. I didn’t say “brag” about my accomplishments, just to blog and log and record, or however else you want to say it.

This morning I was going to wimp out and do the elliptical. That is not a cop-out on a day that I have elliptical training on the menu. But when you are 6 days overdue for an outdoor run, and you have promised your 6 year old Running Buddy that you would go on a 5km loop with him OUTSIDE, then it would be a cop-out. But, good thing 6 year olds don’t forget promises!

We went, we ran, we conquered.

It was a good run! 5.5km to be exact. I have no idea what that is in miles… wait, I will Google it - Comes out to 3.42 miles. Hmm… I think I like the sound of it in kilometres better!!

10 at a time…

April 21st, 2010 by funrun

Last night I did 130 sit ups. The last time I did 130 sit ups all in the same day was… umm… NEVER!

While watching the Biggest Loser, I did 10 or 15 per commercial break, and at the end of the night, that added up to 130 for me. Earlier in the day I challenged my friend C to do the same thing. Today she told me she pumped out 150… not sure how she came up with more commercials than me, but my gut was busted after 130, so I am ok with that!

Yesterday was a pretty all-round awesome fitness day. I even flossed my teeth. Not that that is a big fitness YEAH! but it is something I really hate doing, so I don’t. If you’re a dentist… sorry to offend you, but flossing is for the birds! But, yesterday, I ate healthy, I weighed in (down 1 pound) and burned 500 calories on my elliptical, all of that was followed by my sit ups at the end of the day. So, I figure, why not throw flossing in to finish off a pretty near perfect day!

Yesterday was great.

Today I’m sore.

Tomorrow I will soar again!

Today

April 14th, 2010 by funrun

Today, I felt fit.

Breakfast:
- 1 piece raisin toast with a smidge of butter
- small bowl of blueberry yogurt
- water

snack:
- granola bar (package says 100 cal)
- water

Exercise:
500 calorie workout on my elliptical - sweated like crazy… I think I sweat more on the elliptical than when I actually go outside for a run. My knee was a bit sore still after Monday’s run so I thought the elliptical would be a good choice. Now, later in the day, I can’t even feel my knee. So I should be ready for a run again tomorrow.

Lunch:
- Leftover soup from last night… corn chowder made with corn, potatoes, farmer sausage, milk, squash, onion soup mix for flavour. Sounds a bit crazy, but it was so good!
- water

snack:
- crackers and cheese… about 120 calories
- water

Dinner
- Whole wheat pasta
- sauce… tomatoes, farmer sausage, olives, black beans. My husband made it and it was very good. I ate half my plate and put the other half in the fridge for lunch tomorrow.
- water

Last night on the Biggest Loser, Suze Orman told Koli that she thought he was going to win this season until he said he doesn’t count calories. I am not so good with that whole thing, but the days that I counted last week, I was horrified to discover one day that I had eaten 4000 calories without even thinking twice. Most days my food counts up to around 1400 calories, so I guess it balances out, but that 4000 day was a shocker! I also love what Jillian Michaels says, “Don’t drink your calories!” So, I have been really focusing on drinking only water.

My scales say 2 pounds down. I’ll only officially record my weight on my new weigh-in day… Friday.

The Support of a Friend

April 12th, 2010 by funrun

Happy Monday, everyone!

I love my friends… and it is extra special when one gets behind my weight loss efforts. Like I mentioned in my last post, my friend K encouraged me to keep a food journal. Well, the same gal asked me if I’d like to go for a run with her. So this morning, we met and went on a 5km route. She has been on her fitness kick for over a year now… she’s gone down tons of weight, and sizes, and she is a big inspiration to me. I am thankful for the support of friends.

As far as fitness goes, we had a pretty good weekend. Friday morning my son (Running Buddy!) and I went on a  5 km run, but he somehow got out the door in shoes that were too small, so we took the last half of the run pretty slow, and I even ended up carrying him for about the last km. Oh well, I just look at it as extra resistance that I can add to my workout!

We took the kids out on hikes/nature walks on both Saturday and Sunday, and I feel so good when my kids get moving in the great outdoors. They have a blast, too, and they don’t have to keep their “inside voices” on!! Since my kids are 3, 6 and 7 years old, they find inside voices a bit hard to accomplish on the best of days!

Thanks for stopping by… I wish you a wonderful and healthy week!

Snack Attack

April 6th, 2010 by funrun

I have had some serious cases of the munchies lately, and it is really hindering my weight loss efforts (and, NO, I am not pregnant!) My friend called to encourage me the other day and told me to start making a food journal. I started this, and it’s kind of torture, but I’ve been doing it for several days now. If nothing else it makes me think about what I put in my mouth, but I have such a hard time remembering to do this in the midst of taking care of the kids, etc.

So, I’m wondering if any of you would share some easy, but tasty, low calorie (but high flavour!!!) snacks that I can incorporate into my day. Today, my morning snack was yogurt.

I weighed myself on Wii Fit yesterday and was down 1.5lbs. That’s at least moving in the right direction!

I’m looking forward to “The Biggest Loser” tonight… I feel very inspired by that show, but often wish I could have Jillian come and visit me for a week. But then again, she kind of scares me, so maybe she’s best onscreen!!

Feeling Alive!

April 5th, 2010 by funrun

Happy Easter Monday! I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend, and took some time to remember the hope we are given through Christ’s resurrection! He is risen indeed!

I just got back from a one hour and 15 minute run/walk. I went on a totally different route than I usually go on, and I came across a running track at the local high school that I have never been to before. There were lots of people out walking their dogs, and the people were all dressed in parkas and big sweaters! I was wearing my sleeveless running shirt, and it was plenty warm enough! I experienced everything from bright sunshine to wind and rain in the last hour and a bit, but to run outside makes you feel so alive!

Thanks to the people who left me comments. Friday is a good day for a weigh-in… I think I will adopt that day, because then you don’t do it right after the weekend, which is when I tend to mess up on eating. Thanks for the tip, indianapat!

I was out by myself, today. No little running buddy… My dear husband packed up the 3 kids and took them out about 2 hours ago, saying that I could have the afternoon to myself :) Love that man! ♥ Their plan is to go hiking at a local trail. It is raining now, so I expect to see them home soon!!

Rain, rain, go away…

March 29th, 2010 by funrun

Oh the weather outside is frightful! Very inclement. Not nice for running, or even picking the kids up from school for that matter! It has been yucky weather for several days now, and so I have been pathetic. We had an extremely busy weekend, so I combined that excuse with the gross weather and didn’t exercise. Physically, I felt beat, too.

But today… it’s a new day! I felt like going for a run. When that feeling strikes, you take it, right? Except when mini-golf ball sized hail is falling, and the wind is blowing so fierce that people are experiencing power outages. So, I chose the Wii. A good option for indoor exercise, but I don’t feel as spent as when I hit the trail for half and hour.

Better than nothing, though, right?

Goals for this week:
- establish a “weigh-in” day, and make consistent checks on my weight
- more water consumption
- more veggies…
- less desserts - oy! This one gets me every time!

Have a happy, healthy week, my fatchicks friends! Thanks for your encouragement, and sharing your stories with me, too :)
