I ran alone today… my running buddies are in school all day, so if I’m going to run, it has to be alone. Today, I did it!
Ran/walked, but mostly ran my 5.5km route. Then came home and stretched, did some hand weights and 50 sit-ups.
Now…. I must eat some food!

I have now completed two 5K races this year. That was one of my goals - to get in some races. I want to push it up to 10Ks next year, but I’m thinking that is too far for my kids. Any input on how far kids should run? Both my boys can easily run 5km without even looking winded! I wish I could
Saturday was race day for me and my 7 year old. In the Spring I did a run with my 6 year old, and the older boy was slightly jealous! Be careful what you wish for because you might just get it! He wished for a chance to run with me, and he got it! But he had so much fun doing the race, and being part of all the race day activities, that he asked when we could do it again! That was great to hear.
Big boy did the 5k race in 36.58 minutes. I was so impressed. My time was 42 minutes, which even thought it’s not so hot, it is still 2 minutes faster than my time in May. That made me happy.
I’ve been looking at websites to see what is coming up next and deciding whether to do one more race this Fall, or to just run all Fall and do another race come Spring.
In other news… I haven’t reached my goal weight (not by a long shot) but I have lost 3 pounds in the last week. And a couple weeks ago I bought a size 16 jeans. Haven’t been in a 16 since before kids. Love this feeling.
Tonight is the season premier of Biggest Loser, and I will be watching every single episode. I plan to carry on with my routine of doing situps or pushups during commercial breaks, and only drinking water during the show.

Run, run as fast as you can! When it’s with a 7 year old, it’s about all I can do to keep up! Today we ran 3.2 km as a practice run.
Race in 19 days. We’ll be ready.

Not that I was ever out of it… but I have kind of sidelined all summer. And my weight has not gone down. Duh! How can it go down when you don’t work out?
Today, I said, “enough of this laziness, get your butt moving, so it’ll just move on off! You can’t run one race and then think you’re set for the year.” Self-talk. It usually works. That and reading about all my friends getting out and hitting the trail on their runs. Makes me feel guilty. Sometimes a little guilt is a good thing.
I have legs - I can run. I have arms - I can lift weights. I have kids - I will take the ultimate best care of my body. I have a big belly - I WILL work harder.
I worked out for one hour, to the music of Shania Twain. Her “Come on Over” cd just makes me want to move. I have not found anything since that cd came out that I like better. What do you work out to?
Weights, steps, dancing, and elliptical machine. That’s how I filled my last hour. Then I had a green barley drink. Dinner is in 20 minutes (made by hubby… I don’t even know what it is yet!) so I better hit the shower.
Choir practice tonight, then a relaxing movie (the Young Victoria) later this evening when the kids are asleep.
Life is good.

This Summer has been full and fun. Some time with family, lots of time with friends, and for one week, my husband and I even got to be kidless.
Tonight we’re taking a break (hence the STOP!) from the Summer busyness and going to have friends over for a movie… Date Night. We’ve seen it once, and LOVED it!! If you haven’t seen it yet… rent it! I laughed so hard that I cried and had to stop the movie because I couldn’t see. Can’t wait to see it again tonight with our friends over.
Hope you’re all having a great Summer. I’m excited about two 5km runs that I am going to sign up for in the Fall. One is the local Police Run and the other is the Run for the Cure. I’ll take one kid with me on each run. They both want to do both of them, but I don’t want to have to keep track of 2 little boys at the same time, so they have to take turns.

Just checkin’ in.
I haven’t been out pounding pavement or trails since my race 6 weeks ago. Shameful.
We decided to list our house, and that is an all consuming task. Now that it is on the market, the main job is done (until we have to start packing to move, of course!) and now it is maintenance… keeping a house clean for showings is incredibly difficult when you have 3 young children, and 2 home based businesses. But, it’s not impossible.
I hope everyone is having a happy summer and I am thankful that you are all still posting to provide inspiration!
Make it a great day

My Running Buddy and I clocked a time of about 42 minutes for our first 5 km race of the year. What a rush to run alongside close to a thousand other people. The 5K winner was done in 18 minutes. We were just at the halfway point when we heard the cheers that the race had been won. But we kept plugging along. I feel like I won, whether I was in 1st or 300th. Actually, in my age category, I was 84th. Now, that’s not too shabby, is it?!
I will be training all summer with my other son, and we will do a race together in September - another 5K.

Nothing like a new pair of shoes to put a smile on a girl’s face… only these ones are asics gel runners. Can’t wait to hit the path around the lake tomorrow with Running Buddy! He’s excited too, because it means time on the playground after our run.
Race Day is 9 days away

When you have to fit everything in, there is either time for work, or workouts… not both!!! I just have to say that anyone that is able to balance home, life, kids, work AND still find time to exercise… I really applaud you! You are my heroes.
I find that even though I am a stay-at-home/ work-from-home-mom, I don’t seem to have enough time to get all the things in that I need to do at home.
I am proud of my newest TV watching routine, and that is when the Biggest Loser is on, I do some form of exercise during the commercial breaks. We have a theatre in the basement where we do most of our TV watching, and it is very cold… so with a little heart raising every commercial in the way of jumping jacks or stair steps, I don’t have to beg to have the heater on right at my feet! Plus, I feel good about burning some bonus calories that I don’t even record in a workout log.
Better get on with things. Happy health to you all

Deep down, I know I am having results. Just not the 25 lbs/week like they sometimes see on weightloss shows. I haven’t dropped a pant size yet.. I haven’t lost more than about 3 pounds according to the scale. But people around me swear I look better, healthier, leaner. I think they are right, but why do we measure our success by the number on the scale?
My clothes fit better, even though I am still wearing the same ones. When I try on smaller sizes in the store, I feel like a sausage in them. My husband told me that my current jeans look baggy in the butt. Well, that’s a start!
But the real measure of success I see is this… I can do proper sit-ups now… and more than one at a time!!!! After 3 c-sections in just over 3 years (’03,’04 and ‘06) I really didn’t think I would ever do a sit up again… or ever have the hope of even feeling my stomach muscles, let alone the hope of a flatter, fitter stomach. But recently I have done up to 130 sit-ups in a single day. That’s hope! And when I was visiting my parents last weekend, I used my mom’s treadmill and ran for 35 minutes without falling over dead. I see that as success!
My kids see it in my energy. My friends see it in my face. My sister feels threatened (so that is just motivation for both of us!!!). I feel lighter, more energetic and freer. I just have to wait for the scale to catch up. One friend said she didn’t weigh herself for an entire year. I don’t think I could hold out that long, but it did remind me that the journey should not be measured only by what is shown on the scale.
I also have to remind myself that I am not 20 anymore
If YOU are 20… then take advantage of that. You might not feel it, but your body will respond faster to your exercise the younger you are!
This is still my year. I think my body is just laying the foundational muscle to get a move on the fat burning. Then it’s going to fall off so fast I will skip sizes!
Make it a great day! You can do it!
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Phil. 4:13
