Ah, emotions.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I’m still doing great on BistroMD. Treating myself to a couple of meals a week “off plan” (complete with booze) and still losing steadily, feeling wonderful.

Except for the order snafus, which have been well-documented here. *sigh* I know it has everything to do with having a complicated gluten-free diet and trying to make a system that wasn’t designed to accommodate my needs do just so. But I’m losing patience… especially when I received an email today that confirms that customer service wasn’t able to catch my order for Week 7 as it left the warehouse yesterday, so I’m likely to receive (on Friday) another dose of disappointment, rather than that amazing, wonderful, 100% correct order that came only once (for Week 5).

I’m ready to jump ship and head over to the PureFoods Gluten-Free program, but my husband — who is, amazingly, more patient than I am — suggests that I give them the chance to make it right in Week 8 (which, of course, means actually committing through Week 9, since Week 8 doesn’t arrive until after it’s too late to cancel Week 9), seeing as they’re so good with the credits and they really are doing their best to help and blah blah blah.

*sigh*

I’m just over it. And I know the diet saboteur that lives within is just itching to have me use this as an excuse to rebel, fail, anything other than “stay the course,” y’know?

So, I’m gonna try to not let my emotions rule the roost, here. Gonna just enjoy the food I have (which I do. I enjoy it very much, actually), be pleased with the weightloss I’ve experienced thus far (should hit the ten-pounds-down mark at weigh-in this week, which is great for just under six weeks on the program and no real change in exercise habits), and realize that this is a very long-haul process (a journey!) and that I’ll have lots of time to try lots of things while I lose lots of weight.

;)

And, hey, maybe all of this emotional turmoil burns calories.

  1. Well,

I just received a 3-day PureFoods Fresh Start sampler and should receive a BistoMD 5-day package tomorrow. I am not doing gluten-free, but the potions are soooo small. Since I have been way over-eating, it was a bit shocking when I received the PureFoods package. I’ll keep you posted on the food quality.

  2. Oh, no! I’m sad to see that the PurFoods portions are small. I actually have been very pleased with the portion size on BistroMD. Hmm.

Have you seen the blog by “Noodlebean” called Thin By Mail? She’s mentioned having to supplement calories with some of the plans. That’s one thing I definitely haven’t had to do with BistroMD. Maybe you need to add calories to the PurFoods plans?? Can’t recall which of the plans Noodlebean has mentioned (she’s tried a few) needed the extra calories.

    {{hugs}}

Hang in there. And definitely let me know about the quality of the PurFoods items.

  3. Good morning,

Today was my first PFFS meal, a Southwestern Egg Skillet. which has “liquid eggs” (an egg substitute I assume), potatoes, black beans, cheddar cheese, salsa and spices. The concept is great and I liked the beans, potatoes, cheese and salsa. The “eggs” tasted like rubber bands, however, and I could not eat them.

There are also added substances such as “sodium phosphate and citric acid to preserve color, calcium chloride (firming agent), powdered cellulose and sillicon dioxide added to prevent caking.” Do the BistoMD food have these substances or are they not necessary since the food is frozen instead of being delivered “fresh.”

  4. Well, Kris, that sure sounds like an interesting meal… uh… I like eggs (and miss them, as I can’t have the egg dishes that BistroMD makes because of the wheat gluten in the egg blends), but I don’t think I would’ve loved your breakfast much either. Wow.

Okay, here, I’m going to post a blog entry that talks about ingredients in the frozen meals. :) Hopefully, it’ll help lots of people to see the info.

  5. [...] I was having a conversation with Kris in the comments section of my previous post and we got to talking about ingredients. I figured this might be interesting to others and not [...]

  6. Hello!

Congrats. on your weight loss. That is very encouraging and you should be proud of your progress. I received my Bistor MD shipment today . . . I start on Monday after I finish my PFFS 3-day sampler and I must say that the food looks 100% better than the PFFS food and the portions are much larger with more veggies and fewer carbs. For lunch today (my second PFFS meal, I had Goulash with Mixed Veggies. This was basically a small serving of hamburger helper (with some stewed tomatoes mixed in) with a serving of the frozen mixed vegetables- the kind that you buy in your local grocery store. I was very disappointed and was so hungry later in the day (I picked at the mixed veggies), that I picked up a sandwich at my local Arby’s. I haven’t tasted any of the BistroMD foods yet, but based on appearance alone, I wouldn’t spend money on any PureFoods products (assuming that the PFFS food is not much different than the PF Gluten-free foods). If you are determined to find another meal provider, see if you can order a 3-day sampler or if there are other vendors out there who provide gluten-free options. Also, I really appreciated the materials that I received with my BistroMD shipment. With the PFFS shipment, I just received the 3-day menu.

    Hope this helps!

  7. Oh, wow, Kris. That sounds so disappointing. I can only imagine that the gluten-free menu at PurFoods is nearly identical to what you’ve described in terms of portion size–just without the wheat stuff.

Wow. I’m sorry you’re having less-than-wonderful experiences with their food, but I SO appreciate you sharing with me, especially as I wonder whether I should try other companies. Looks to me like staying the course with BistroMD–even with their slips here and there–is the wise choice.

I’m eager to hear how things go for you when you eat your first BistroMD day of foods. I agree that it’s plentiful and really good looking (and good tasting) and their materials are educational and encouraging. I really think they have a good system in place, for the most part.

    Thank you!!

  8. Well,

I finally had a decent meal on PFFS. For breakfast, I had a whole-wheat bagel half with peanut butter (can’t go wrong there) and a berry-banana shake (which tasted like your typical protein shake). For lunch, I attended an office function - hotel food. For dinner, I had a pretty tasty PFFS meal, meat lasagna with a malibu veggie blend (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots). The veggies still tasted like the frozen ones you buy at the grocery store, but were much better quality than the mixed veggies. The lasagna was very good and I felt satisfied after the meal.

Last night I had an orange chipolte chicken breast with mung bean noodles, roasted veggies and chick peas. This meal was just ok. The chicken was dry and not very flavorable (just a hint of orange flavor), but very spicy-hot. I like spicy food, but I had to drink some water after every bite.

I am really looking forward to trying the BistroMD food on Monday and will certainly give you a comparison.

    Have a good weekend.

    Kris

  9. Oh, I’m just so happy to get to read about your experiences and I’m really looking forward to the comparison, since I’m not so brave to try more than one plan at once, so I really have NO basis for comparison outside of “no plan”. ;) And so far, I know I like BistroMD.

    PS–They got Week 7 100% right! :D Yay! So, I’m very happy! :D Yeehaw!

Gonna be time to add some serious exercise soon, or I’m going to be doing all this work (and expense) for a pound a week when I could be hitting closer to two pounds a week, once I get some muscle tone building. Ah… such a process.

Again, thank you for the update! I love spicy food too, and there’s not been a lot of that on BistroMD (except for the BBQ Crunch O’s protein snack, which is HOT), so I wonder if anyone does it really great. Hmm.

Thank you–again–for the update! You rock!

    Have a great weekend. :)

  10. FYI:

I found another service that offers a gluten-free menu:

Also, I found a review about the service generally from Newsweek:
