We tried really hard to find the fresh, yummy stuff - and it took a lot of effort to track it down. I got fruit and fish from the grocery store, but the restaurants we tried mostly deep fried it (yuck!). I think the thing to do is eat more ethnic stuff and avoid the places that sell themselves as "local Hawaiian" - that tends to mean the fried stuff, plate lunches, etc. I tried kalua pork and it was so salty. Same things with the lomi lomi salmon. Every time we tried what the guidebooks and online review sites called "local" food, we ended up disappointed. The best place we found was on the north shore, the Grass Skirt Grill - fish that was grilled with some actual fresh veggies on the side!

umm, I TOTALLY disagree about the food not being good in Hawaii! Mostly only big Samoan's eat the plate lunches. There is an abundance of wonderful fresh fruit and fresh fish there; I have been many times and it is SO easy to eat healthy there! Sorry you missed all that.

p.s. it's less humid when you go NOT June-September. April and October are gorgeous months in Hawaii; if you go back, try to schedule one of those two months. :)

We're supposed to get a Fresh and Easy right across from Fry's...but they haven't done any work on that lot in a long, long time. It's a beautiful dirt lot with a nice paved driveway.

So far so good on the WW thing. I've lost and gained and lost and gained before, so I know it CAN work. It's a matter of sticking to it though. I'll have been on the plan for 1 week on Saturday, so I'll see how it's going then!

I agree that new stores are exciting too! Especially when they are close to home. I'm on WW too. How is it working for you?
