Countdown - Day 32

(Guess which one I most closely resemble after my T-Day food love fest!)

Weight: 165.2 (OUCH!)

Sooooo - here’s the deal. I haven’t been exercising and eating has been in the crapper. Lovely, I know.

Last Saturday I realized I’d hit DO OR DIE Day. I hadn’t run in over a month. I hadn’t been on the elliptical in over a week. I was back to drinking at least one Diet Coke Zero (that’s either a Diet Coke or Coke Zero, so I’ve just sort of combined ‘em into one name. Like Brangelina, only without all the paparazzi.) My sole food group was CARBS (white flour, white sugar.) I was a mess.

I ran 3 miles that morning. Came into work vowing to eat mostly fruits, veggies, lean meats - saw the trays of mini bagels, crackers, sliced bread - and proceeded to eat my way through them all day. Rinse and repeat Sunday. By yesterday afternoon I had to concede I had a big problem. Running alone wasn’t going to do it (obviously.) Time to issue myself the biggest challenge EVER.

NO WHITE FLOUR OR WHITE SUGAR (or Diet Coke Zero) until January 2010. At least. Sure I could have waited until tomorrow, December 1st to start. But really, do you know how much more damage I can do in a single day. My scale is THREE POUNDS higher this morning that yesterday. THREE! And guess what, I totally did NOT binge out yesterday. Nope. I did make sure to enjoy a few treats as a final farewell. Like a couple of turkey burgers and two Reese’s peanut butter cups. But I didn’t go on a Hostess raid. I just wanted something (chocolatey) as a last goodbye, to savor until next year. And that’s what I did. And I had 3 Coke Zeros! That was my binge out! Oh, and I had some Popchips, but gave the last half of the bag to the kids.

I expect to see some major scale drops over the next few days as my body flushes out all this extra water weight I’m retaining. So, that’ll be awesome. And helpful cause my jeans are TIGHT! Ugh!

So far today, I’ve had:

post morning workout: 1 boiled egg

breakfast: 1 boiled egg and 3 strips extra lean turkey bacon

1 cup gingerbread chai tea (OMG, they should sell this all year round! Mmmmmm!)

I have a large bag of green apples by my desk for snacking. Lunch will be a big salad, I need to hit the grocery store for supplies. I’ll be making the salads myself with fresh ingredients and including at least one protein like grilled chicken strips or beans. Dinner at home will be oven roasted acorn squash and a grilled chicken breast. Filling. Delish. Something I can literally eat every night. I can totally do this menu for a month easily. Except for a couple of potential obstacles….

Next week, I’m taking my two littlest ones to Disneyland. I’ve been enough times over the last year that pigging out on special treats (like churros and ear-shaped ice cream) is not that special anymore. I’ve had my fill. I’m good. And Disney has a LOT to choose from. Corn on the cob, ginormous turkey legs (though I’ve never had one, and I think everyone looks like a bunch of Henry the 8ths walking around. Gluttony run amok through the Magic Kingdom!) Salads. Healthy food if you just look for it.

And then there’s Christmas. Ah, this WILL be the hard one. Cookies, pies, cakes, rolls, stuffing… it’s a total minefield. I am determined to safely navigate my way through it and out the other side.

After all, it’s only 32 days. I can do anything for 32 days, right?

UPDATE 9:21 PM

Midmorning snack: 3 green apples

Lunch: big salad containing spinach, grilled chicken strips, diced red onions, black beans, garbanzo beans, salsa and a dash of fat free ranch dressing

Late afternoon snack: quesadilla made with two whole wheat low carb La Tortilla factory small tortillas, three slices turkey breast lunch meat and two slices pepperjack cheese (seriously the best thing ever!!!)

Dinner: 1/2 oven roasted acorn squash (I was still full from that late snack)

Beverages: lots of tea, water and diet cranberry pomegranate juice mixed with diet gingerale (left over from Thanksgiving, combined the juice/gingerale has 5 calories per tall glass - how awesome is that?!)

I did my 45 minutes on the elliptical this morning. Tomorrow is a run day. Pray for warmth!!

  1. DISNEYLAND?@!?!?!?! Wait, where the hell do you live???? I’m in Disneyland’s backyard, woman! ‘fess up!

(and thank god I’m not the only one who screwed up this past week. Misery loves company. :: hugs ::)

  2. I think you can do it! I definitely am in the same mindset as you this week! So far been clean eating this morning AND plan to do so for the rest of the year- my personal goal is 199 by January first!

  3. Awsome job with running… i cant run a block.. but i’m trying. You’ll do better with the food now that you’re determined.

Dont be too strict on yourself though. Freeze a bar of real dark chocolate (not hershies.. at leat 70% coco) with fruit or nuts in it, and treat yourself to a square of it every now and then. Has anti-oxidants and the fruit will have fiber and the nuts will have protein.

Make multigrain rolls for christmas. Start playing with (small batches) of different recipies now, and have your family try them to see if they are good or not, and by christmas you’ll have it down.
    Good luck

  4. OH my gosh I had no idea that you wrote for an imperfect woman !!! I go on there all of the time. I used to be on the Gosselin chatter site all of the time and wrote a ton of comments however I had to stop because someone somehow was using my name and code/address to make comments. I have to go and read all of your comments now that I know it is you. :)

LOL I had to laugh at the turkey comment. Funny and true! However a turkey leg and a big salad is a nice way to go Henry the 8th or not. LOL ;)

Are you training for a Paris Marathon? When is it?

  5. You can totally do it :) And you’ll be great! When avoiding christmas delight I suggest brushing your teethn every hour or drinking like selzer adn lemon juice. Something that makes everything else taste like crap - then you won’t want ot eat it!

  6. I’m with you. The day after my big walk, I was 163. An all time high. I’m heading to the Dr. this morning for in advance blood testing for my annual (LDL, HDL, etc). It will be interesting to see what the extra weight is doing. I did write everything down yesterday, which over the holiday I didn’t do.

God, I’m sure even Carrie Fisher wishes she could have that body again!

  21. Great post about Twitter. I think Twitter is going to be one of the better networks because of the fact that it is supported by so many industries. I also think when Twitter shows some of it’s new functions, returning traffic will increase to show the real growth of the network. Keep up the great work!
