The new norm
General May 12th, 2009So I guess 3 miles is the new norm for me. I mapped out a loop in my neighborhood and my friend and I ran it last night. It seemed like a L —- O —- N —- G 3 miles, and it took us about 45 minutes. I was sore since i had just come from playing volleyball.. not so good on the knees. But I was able to keep up with her the whole time. It’s weird…. I’m definitely more athletic than she, but she is a better runner. Plus she’s about 50lbs lighter and she’s been running about a year longer than I have. But the other day when we ran, she was quite a number of paces ahead of me on the last mile. Last night, I lagged behind once but then caught up with her and stayed with her the whole time. Until she pushed it at the very end… I let her go. I was WORN out!
Eating has been a tad better this week. Although this weekend was an eatout FEST!! It was all fast food on Saturday - breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Ugh. We were out and about all day. We went to the beach in the morning, then we went wakeboarding with some friends in the afternoon. I was hungry yesterday when I got back from my run b/c I had all of 2 or 3 bites of a meatball sub and a bunch of green beans for dinner (before volleyball) but I ate a few chunks of watermelon and called it a night. I REALLY REALLY wanted to jump in my car and go get something, but I resisted b/c I knew that would blow what i just accomplished with the run!

Keeping up with someone else’s pace is HARD! Good for you! Volleyball would be a huge strain on your knees. All of that sudden jarring like motion. Ouch.

Do you play volleyball on the beach at all? Seems like that would be both harder to do & softer on your knees. Of course, I prefer no team sports…a history of always getting picked last & then letting the team down.
Congrats on the 3 mile runs!

I just love that you’re running, and that you’re getting faster and fitter. Yeah, maybe your buddy stepped on the gas at the end, but you kept up with her. You’ll do it again, and you’ll lose weight and get faster than she is. Yeah! Keep up the great work.
