Interesting conversation with my trainer today

General 4 Comments »

So I actually got my butt out of bed and to the gym for the first time this week. I feel like such a lazy bum, but in my defense, I have run twice this week. Anyway, I started to run a little on the treadmill and then WOAH!!!! Knee pain out of no where!! Both knees. So I decided to slow down and went to a 10% incline instead. Walked about a mile that way.

Did arms with the trainer. Can I tell you that I saw some muscles working that I usually don’t see. Like I could SEE them. That made me feel like progress is being made SOMEWHERE. Anyway, I was talking to her about my weight b/c I do this weight assisted chin up thing (which I hate) and you have to put the weights near your weight. She asked if I had come down, and I said yeah, but I seem to be stuck at one number. I go either 2lbs +/- 208. So she tried to think of some things that might be causing that. Here’s what we came up with…
***before I begin, I must say that I KNOW my overeating causes it some weeks, but what frustrates me are the weeks that I am at the gym EVERY DAY and really good on my calories. This is what we are trying to figure out***

1. Perhaps I’m not getting enough calories. I knew that. It seems so backwards though. But Spark People says (and my trainer confirmed) that I should be getting 1200-1450 calories a day. She said I should try to average about 1300 a day during a week (some days might be lower, some higher). When I’ve tracked, I’ve been around 1000 or so. I know this, but it seems so backwards!! It’s something I must work on.

2. She told me that instead of running/speed walking, I may get better results by doing the stationary bike for an hour. She thinks my heart rate may be getting too fast and I’m not really losing weight that way either. Hmmm… interesting concept. She basically told me whatever I do, slow down. Slow down to the point I want to shoot myself in the head!! So I will try that for a few weeks and see
what happens. I’ll still do my training of course because that helps build muscle. I guess I’ll start taking books to the gym and perhaps looking into books on CD or downloading off itunes. I will be so bored.

So I need to really think about the things I do. I know I need to up my calorie burnage (not a word, I know) I’ve been trying to think about what I can do to do that. I have a few ideas that I need to chew on and really hammer some things out. Rest of the week is a bust since I won’t be here, but I’m actually looking forward to putting these things into practice next week and see what happens.

I ran 1.32 miles today non-stop

That is huge for me. I had taken my son to the kids thing at this church we’ve been going to the past 2 weeks. The church is around the corner from us and on the lake that the walking trail is on. Since hubby was home and I could leave the baby with him, I decided to walk down to the lake, run around and then back to where the church is and be there in time to pick my son up. The church is about halfway around the lake. So I walked briskly all the way down to the lake then started running as soon as I got there. I ran all the way to the turnaround spot (can’t go all the way around yet, but they are working on that) and then back to where the church is. Crossed the street and ran around through the parking lot to give me a little extra distance. Of course, my run outside is not that fast. I can run much faster on the treadmill, but when I run outside I feel like I’m in mud. Probably because the treadmill is doing the work for me. Anyway, I am happy I ran that far without stopping. They looked a little concerned when I walked in to get him. They probably thought I was going to pass out since i was dripping with sweat. No, hello.. this is how all runner’s look!! We walked back home, although we had to run a little because my son wanted to run. That lasted MAYBE 5 minutes before I put the kibosh on it. I was tired and my knees were hurting by that time. I have training session at the gym tomorrow. Ugh… I haven’t been up early at all this week. It’s going to kill me.

This week is a total bust

Oh yes, the whole week. After the two packages of double stuff oreos I ate over the course of the weekend, I am calling it a bust. I haven’t been to the gym, my eating plan hasn’t been great (well, the PLAN was good but the execution of the plan has not been), and frankly, I really don’t care this week because I know that no matter what I would have done, it would all be for naught come Friday night when I will consume my weight in alcohol (well, not THAT much, but enough to derail all efforts)

Oh yeah… I’m talking 7 HOURS of my guys up in New York. And the best part is they don’t know that I’m coming!! They know I’m coming up in October for Halloween, but we have kept this trip a secret from them. My friend and I can’t wait to see the looks on their faces when I walk in.

I did try to go for a run last night. Remember, I ran a 5k on Saturday. I went to run last night (outside in the fresh air - NOT on the treadmill in the gym) and after 10 steps I was in pain. WTF!! I kept going though. Stopped to get a drink at the water fountain, then kept on running to the turn around point and then may a quarter of the way back. That was as far as I could go. I walked the rest of the way. I was planning on going around again, but decided against it. I had a side cramp and was just over it. I think I was dehydrated b/c I didn’t do well on my water yesterday. That’s what I like about the gym. I always have a bottle of water with me so I can rehydrate myself. Oh well.

The moment you’ve been waiting for…

First: my awesome shirt from the 5k run. No, tiny2b, it does not beat your Sausage Fest shirt (really, I snicker everytime I say that), but it is nonetheless cool and totally me:
shirt

Next: some pictures of the house
Front of the house (with my family, the realtor and her son)

Backyard

The palm in the courtyard. These are hot commodities around these parts so no matter what we do, this will stay

And just for fun, a picture of my son after his first soccer game the other night

Periwinkle has been on my case all morning to post pictures of my awesome t-shirt and the house. I even brought my camera to work today. Alas, my stupid computer keeps shutting down when I try to resize the pics on photobucket so they aren’t HUGE on here. I’ll have to do it at home tonight.

Why is it that…

other people can see results on me, but I can’t. The scale is showing a movement of NO WHERE. It doesn’t go down, it doesn’t go up. Either that or it just goes back and forth between 2 numbers. However people have started to notice. They tell me I look like I’m losing weight. It’s happened 3 times now over the past few weeks. I don’t get it. I look the same, my clothes fit the same, but SOMETHING must be happening.

WE GOT IT!! WE GOT IT!!!

We got the house!! The sellers counter-offered with the price we were going to start at on Friday anyway, so hubby jumped on it! WOO HOO!!! As long as our financing goes through (and it should) we will hopefully be proud homeowners by the end of next month. Hopefully anyway. We are going to give notice at our apartment to let them know we’ll be out by the end of October, so we will HAVE to be homeowners by then!

I am trying not to think about everything that needs to be done in the next month and a half. Besides packing (ugh), we have to figure out flooring and paint and have it ready to be put in as soon as we get keys to the house. Not to mention the amounts of money we are going to be dealing with. Very scary.

I totally suck though because I was going to bring my camera into work to send pics of the house to family members and I was going to post one on here (including a picture of my shirt -which I am wearing today). I brought the port for the camera but not the camera!! I will definitely do it tomorrow.

Food and exercise at the moment is on the back burner. I’m keeping my calories in line (except for this weekend which was a total bust and I never want to eat another oreo cookie again) but i don’t know how often I’ll get to the gym this week.

My official time in my Rock & Run 5k this morning. Not bad, not bad. I have to say that running on a treadmill is MUCH easier than running on the streets. My legs are tired. They don’t usually feel like this after the gym. I stopped a few time to walk, but I didn’t walk for very long. Just long enough to recover (maybe 90 seconds or so). For one, my friends were in front of me and I didn’t want them to be waiting TOO long for me when I finished. Two, I wanted to have a good time. Not only that, but I kept thinking about bigprof out there running today and thinking she’s doing the same thing right now (although probably not because she’s in central time zone so an hour behind).

I’ll post a picture of the shirt later. It’s so cool… and if you knew me, you’d say that it is totally me and would know why I wanted it.

And we are back in the game…

the other people’s offer fell through on the house. We are tweeking our offer and re-bidding this afternoon since we have first rights!

It’s all about the shirt

So I’m going to sign up for a 5k tomorrow… just for the t-shirt. A friend of mine at work is signed up and wore her shirt to work today. It’s totally cool, totally me and I WANT ONE!! So I am going to go sign up on my lunch break and prepare to run tomorrow. My friend and her friend have been running for awhile, so I’m sure they’ll be faster than me, but it will be interesting to see what my time will be!! I’m excited!! So I guess it’s off to the races for me and bigprof who is running her own 5k tomorrow.
