Exercise: 5:00am - 5k on treadmill 42:43 minutes run/walk

Total Daily Point Allowance: 26

Breakfast - w/w yogurt -1pt; 1/2 cup peaches 1pt

Lunch - 1 cup taco soup - 1pt; 1 pita pocket (1/2 of whole pita) - 2pts I accidently picked up the “white” version instead of a whole grain one. grrrr; 2 tbs hummus - 2; baby spinach/ tomato slices - 0 pts

Snack - 1 package instant grits I found in my drawer - 3pts (this was an “unauthorized” snack. I wasn’t planning on it, but was SO hungry!!)

Dinner - 1 cup brown rice - 4pts; Garden Vegetable and Shrimp Stirfry - 5pts

Snack - 1 plum - 1pt

Total Points used: 20pts

I’m six points short of my daily point balance, but I’m not hungry so I’m not going to eat anything else. I have my lunch and breakfast all ready to go in the morning. I made my oatmeal ahead of time tonight so I will actually have a breakfast tomorrow  I have a training session tomorrow at 5:30am. I will be dead at work tomorrow

Makeup? At the gym?!

General 6 Comments »

I don’t get it. Could someone who has a little more girly genes than I do please explain to me the purpose of wearing makeup to the gym? I was there this morning, doing my thing, sweating it up on the treadmill and this lady walks by with a perfectly done up face. This was at 6am by the way. First off, why wear makeup to the gym? I know when I am working out, I am sweating so much that it would just run off my face. Secondly, when I get up to go to the gym that early, I get up, put my workout clothes on and go. If I had to take time to do makeup, I’d never make it because I’d have to get up so much earlier!! It’s bad enough getting up at 4:40. Maybe if I actually WORE makeup I’d understand.

Anyway, walk/ran a 5k on the treadmill. Steady at my 42 minutes. One of these days maybe I’ll get below that.

Today is not boding well. First off, my friend japped on me this morning and did not show up at the gym. Secondly, when I took my shirt off to get in the shower, the back of my diamond earring flew off and I couldn’t find it. Thankfully my diamond didn’t go anywhere, but still. This is like the 4th or 5th time I’ve lost the back. I’m running out of extra earrings to steal from. THEN, when I got to work and made my oatmeal, it boiled all over and I got nothing. Grrrr… I think I’m going to have to make my oatmeal at night and then heat it up again. So for breakfast I am eating 1/2 cup peaches and weight watchers yogurt. Who’s going to be hungry in an hour?! I AM!! So much for being consistant. No, that’s the wrong attitude to have. I WILL make it until lunch time!!

Here’s a pic of me and hubby from the wedding we went to this weekend. Look long and hard! This is a rarity:

I’m off to do some work!! Have a good Monday, chickies.

What this week needs to look like

General No Comments »

Okay, I have been doing well on getting to the gym everyday to exercise. Now I need to work on eating correctly and STICKING to it! I do really well until about Wednesday and then I get crazy. This week needs consistancy. I plan on going to the gym every morning, and that should give me time in the evenings to actually want to cook. Okay, maybe want is too strong a word. It will give me time in the evening to cook without having to rush to cook, eat and then get the kids ready for bed.

So. What is the word for this week? CONSISTANCY!! How are we going to do it? BY BEING CONSISTANT!! (I never did make the cheerleading squad, remember)

Stick to the menu I just spent 2 hours making for every meal!! Exercise every day!! I found some notecards I made about 5 years ago with different exercises on them. I got them out of a book called The Perfect Workout for Women or something like that. I have a weight loss one (lots of walking), perfect legs, perfect upper body workout, perfect abdominal workout, etc… I did them before and I may try to use them again. I CAN DO THIS!!!!

Gymmin’ it up….

General 2 Comments »

Is that even a word? I’m sure you guys know what I mean though. Anyway, I went to the gym last night for my training session. I did a 5k on the treadmill beforehand. I joined getupnow’s inner 5 year old while I was there. I scoped out the treadmills and found the “largest” women on the treadmill and parked myself next to them. Just so I could feel good about myself when I ran my piddly minutes. Stupid, I know. Did I feel better about myself though — yeah. I didn’t run as much as I wanted too, but I finished the 5k in about 43 minutes. That’s pretty much my standard time (except for the one I did on 4th of July). Then I did my training session with the trainer. We did arms… she about killed me. I was kind of upset because my trainer is no longer going to be working in the evenings. But she was able to open up some sessions at 5:30am for me. Did you read that right? 5:30AM!! But I’ve been getting to the gym every day this past week at 5 am, so that should be okay.

We went to the gym today as well. Then we went and looked at the house that we’ve put an offer on last weekend. This is a short sale which is SUCH a pain in the butt. The seller has signed off on our offer, but our realtor doesn’t think the bank will. We really lowballed because it needs appliances (none in the house) and some finish work. We’ll see. Keep your fingers crossed for us, please. If you’d like to see an aerial vew of the house and can see the HUGE backyard, click here. It’s the house with the trapezoidal back yard right in the center.

Hubby and I have a wedding to go to tonight. I normally hate weddings - i hate getting dressed up - but it’s my best friend growing up’s wedding (the one I went on the rafting trip with). It should be fun.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Rain rain go away, come again some other day

General 1 Comment »

This storm is driving me crazy. Schools are closed again today because of it. They were closed Tuesday, which was stupid because I think it rained for all of 20 minutes that day. Although they were worried about tornados, so I guess that’s okay. But yesterday was worse weather-wise and today is just as bad. They decided to close schools today because there are flooding in some areas. I made hubby stay home with the kids today since I stayed home on Tuesday… although in hindsight, I wish I had stayed home because it’s going to be a slow day at work and I am always less motiviated to do anything on Fridays anyway.

What is wrong with my brain?

Do you know what I just ate? Do you want to know (you really don’t)? I just ate some chili/cheese nachos from 7-11. You know.. the ones where you get the chips and can then put as much chili and cheese on them as you want. You know how many servings are in that small package of chips they give you? 3.5. Know how many servings I ate? 3.5 PLUS the chili and cheese. Ugh… but I was HUNGRY!! I went to the gym this morning. I ate oatmeal with blueberries when I got to work and was hungry an hour and a half later (8:30am). I made it until lunch and ate my taco soup and my sandwich, but I was still hungry!! There certainly are side effects to boosting your metabolism. So I took a ride to 7-11. I’m sure there were worse things I could have snacked on (ice cream novelties, doughnuts, etc…) but still. I knew I shouldn’t, but I did. Old habits die are REALLY hard to get rid of.

On another note… I worked up my courage and weighed myself at the gym this morning. I haven’t been on a scale in at least 3 weeks if not more, and I SURELY haven’t been to the gym or watching what I’ve been eating. What was the damage? 1.5 lbs. I was pleasently relieved (if one could be relieved at seeing weight gain) I know that it could have been a lot more. Of course it will be if I keep eating nachos from 7-11!!!

An open letter to Tropical Storm Fay

General 1 Comment »

Hi, Fay, is it? How have you been? It must have been tough to once be a hurricane and have been downgraded to a tropical storm. Can’t be a boost to your self-esteem. But you know what, it’s okay. Not everyone needs to be a hurricane. And really, it’s not our fault that you became a tropical storm. I mean, you decided to stay in Cuba for awhile and sort of get yourself all disorganized. There isn’t much water (only 90 miles) between Cuba and Key West, and unfortunately, you decided to take that route. You could have stayed over the Gulf indefinitely and made yourself a monster. Yes, yes.. we are happy that didn’t happen. Thanks for that. But really, is sticking around in Florida really making you feel better? You’ve parked yourself over on the East Coast for some reason. Have you shacked up with some hot lifeguard over on the beach? Heh.. can’t say I blame you . I can point you to one in Cocoa if you want me too. But really, I think it’s time to find somewhere new. Spread your wings. Get out there in the open water of the Atlantic and let it take you somewhere fun and exciting!! Yes, yes.. Florida is supposed to be fun and exciting, but you have sort of brought us down. We can’t do anything when you’re around. And we Floridians have gotten good and hunkering down during storms over the past few years. There aren’t very many around anymore that get out on the bridges and such during the hurricanes anymore. I know they used too, but I think we’ve gotten a little smarter than that. Not only that but there aren’t very many native Floridians anymore. Most people are transplants from somewhere up north who get freaked out over wind and rain. Those of us who are a little jaded, well, we just get annoyed. You’re antics really aren’t appreciated anymore.

So look, you’ve dumped rain on the entire state, flooded towns, and have even wrecked havoc on the sea turtles. We just can’t do this anymore. I think it’s time we go our separate ways. We’ll stay here and you can move on warmer waters. Now, now… we won’t forget you. Trust me, we’ll be thinking about you and talking about you for years to come. Please don’t make this harder than it already is. We need a break.

Good luck wherever you end up. No, no.. please, don’t call. Don’t visit. It will make it that much harder. Oh don’t worry about us. I’m sure there will be a storm right behind you to help heal the pain.

Toodles!!

Food and exercise for today

Journal 1 Comment »

Breakfast: I had a mishap today. My oatmeal over flowed in the mircowave while cooking so I ended up with maybe half of what a serving actually is. I’m still going to count the whole points though: Peaches and Cream Oatmeal - 4

Lunch: 2 slices whole wheat bread - 3; 3oz tuna w/ 1 tbsp f/f mayonase - 1; taco soup - 1; sugar free jello - 0

Snack: small mini bag of 94% fat free popcorn — I think its’ only 1 or 2 points

Dinner: TBD. I don’t remember what I am planning on fixing tonight.

Gym: didn’t go this morning since i didn’t know what the weather was going to be like. Going tonight after work. Not sure what I’m going to do since I can barely walk. My calf muscles are so sore. They feel as if they are contracted and can’t relax. Vicodan anyone? I am going to try to run on the treadmill, but it may end up being a slow walk.

EDITED TO ADD DINNER: Okay, here’s where it went downhill. I was so hungry when I got home from the gym. I started mindlessly snacking. Not that it was easy. I don’t keep a lot of snack food in the house…but I had cheese. MMMM, cheese. Anyway, hubby was still at work because of network issues (stupid storm) so he wanted me to just order pizza. Now, normally I wouldn’t. I would have cooked. But I have been CRAVING pizza for awhile, so I ordered some. I tried to restrain myself though. I had 2 slices with cheese and tomatoes (of course they were stuffed crust), 1 breadstick (instead of my normal 2 or 3), and only 2 of the new Hershey Chocolate Dunker things that came wit the meal. Let me tell you, those things are the DEVIL!! They tasted just like a chocolate croissant!! I tried 2, gave some to Jase in his lunch today and made hubby throw the rest away. I could have eaten the whole thing!! Now dinner was not good for me at all BUT I could have done worse. I can eat more than 2 slcies of pizza, and like i said, I could have eaten the entire pan(?) of the Hershey things. I did not leave the table stuffed. I was satisfied. I think that is the best we can do at times. And I got hungry before I went to bed, so I took that as a good sign

Food and exercise today

Journal 1 Comment »

Today was a little challenging. I ended up staying at home with the kids since schools were closed due to TS Fay, so being in close proximity with a refrigerator and pantry full of food was tough. I snacked a little, but I feel that I did okay.

I went to the gym at 6am and did the elliptical machine for 50 minutes. I didn’t go very fast because my legs were still sore from last night. They are STILL sore now.

Breakfast: Peaches and Cream Oatmeal (same recipe as yesterday) - 4
Lunch: 2 slices wheat bread - 3; 1/2 cup chicken salad - 4; 1 slice reduced fat cheese - 2; taco soup - 1
Dinner: Pasta “Carbonara” with broccoli - 7 (”Carbonara” is in quotes because it’s made with tempeh strips instead of bacon)
Total Points Real food: 21 points / 26 allowed

Snack foods: a few slices of cheese, turkey and crackers, 1 cookie, a few watermelon chunks, some baked cheetos — I’m sure all those add up to more than the 5 points I had left, but I have 35 extra points a day PLUS the activity points I gained by exercising this morning. I’m fine.

No gym tomorrow morning. The weather is supposed to be dicey overnight, so I’m not sure what it will be like early morning. I’ll just go after work tomorrow.

The road less traveled … a rafting story

General 2 Comments »

I wish I had a good map of Tennessee that I could show you for this one. Maybe you are familiar with the state. If not, you may want to look like at a map. We should have :)

Friday morning 5:45am: I met my friend at her house so we could go pick up the rental car. We get to the place and find out they can’t rent us a car b/c we are going out of state. So now we have no rental car and no reservation anywhere. It became the great rental car hunt. Luckily we live in Orlando and there are rental car places aplenty. We find one at the 3rd place we tried, and we got on the road only about an hour behind schedule.

We get to Pigeon Forge, TN at a decent time. We had time to go to Walmart to get some groceries and find the cabin before we had to leave for the airport to pick up the other 2 girls. We have directions from the airport to the cabin, but not vice versa. So we are reading the directions backwards pretty much. The whole trip should only be taking us 2 hours round trip. We start off heading in the direction we think we need to be in…. through Great Smokey Mountain National Park. Up the mountain we went… down we came on the other side.. IN NORTH CAROLINA!!!! We were trying to get to Knoxville. Want some perspective, here’s a map. See where Pigeon Forge is? See where Knoxville is? Yeah, we went totally the wrong way. Of course we didn’t know we were in North Carolina yet. When we finally got off the mountain, my friend went in to a hotel to ask directions. When she came out, she said… “I knew we were in trouble when I asked the girl how to get to Knoxville and she just shook her head.” Uh oh. Someone did know and they gave us directions… without telling us how far we actually were. We didn’t want to go back up the mountain b/c one of the girls with us was getting sick but we should have. So off we went, blindly following directions. We are now about 1 1/2 hours behind schedule… and we had told the girls we’d be there in 15 minutes when we talked to them the first time. All was going well until we saw a sign… KNOXVILLE 91 miles. WHA?!! My friend was driving and I was in the front seat… we both just looked at each other in shock. 91 miles?!! It was too late to turn back by this time.. better to just keep going. So we did. I think we finally made it to the airport about 1am. We should have been back and drinking by this point. We finally got back at our cabin at 2:30-3am. UGH!! We should have been snozzled (my new favorite word) by that time!! A 2 hour trip took us about 6 hours.

Really, it wasn’t that bad — except remember that I was in girl hell. Me, I like adventures. That was an adventure. Yes it was annoying, yes it was even a little scary up in the mountains in the middle of the night, and it was actually sort of humorous. There were points that my friend and I just looked at each other and burst out laughing (like when we saw the 91 mile sign). But there were 2 other girls with us and ALL THEY DID WAS COMPLAIN. *shudder* Come on!! If you can’t see the humor in it, there is no hope. And they were all like, I never want to go back on the mountain again

Well, guess how we had to get to rafting the very next day. BUWAHHAHAHAHAAHHA!!!!!
