Baby Steps
General July 19th, 2008Ever see that movie What About Bob? Hilarious! That’s what I always think about when I hear the phrase “baby steps.” Bill Murray baby stepping his way though the movie “Baby steps around the office, baby steps near the window, baby steps on the elevator.” That’s how I feel right now. Baby steps to the gym, baby steps watching what I eat.
I made it to the gym yesterday. It felt GREAT! I did 20 minutes on the Precor Eliptical machine and then had my training session. The girl that was my trainer was GREAT! Much better than the first guy I had. We did arms, and I have to say my arms are a tad sore today. Not so much that I can’t move them but sore enough to feel it.
Today I actually did a C25k program. It’s been, geez, a few weeks since I’ve tried one. Since my goal is to get moving everyday (notice the new ticker off to the side) and we didn’t make it to the gym this morning (hubby let me sleep in) I had to do something! I decided to go for a run/walk around the lake tonight after it stopped raining. It was fairly cool, but it was HUMID!! I decided to try the week 4 of C25k since that is where I left off. Let me tell you, I did great!! It was MUCH easier this time around. I guess those weeks of walking/running on the treadmill helped. I was able to run the 3 minutes and the 5 minutes with no problems! I still don’t like the music. I would have finished off with a nice long bike ride like our friend periwinkle but my bike seat is not the most comfortable and I didn’t want to have to lug it down the stairs.. and I think the tires are flat. I need to work on those things. I planned to do some ab work when I got back upstairs but couldn’t find my Slim in 6 DVD. So I just took a shower instead.
So I’m getting there. I am going to the grocery store tomorrow and will start counting points again on Monday. I haven’t weighed myself in awhile. I’m sure I have gained. The manager of the trainers at the gym told me I could come have my body fat measured whenever I wanted and I’m thinking… “oh sure, that is JUST what I want to do!” I will weigh myself at the gym on Monday and see what the damage from the past 2 weeks have been **shudder**

I love that movie, too. LOVE it. And what makes me love it more is that my DH is a therapist and HATES it, hee hee. Good job on the C25k. I HATE the music. I mean really HATED it while I was doing it. But I stuck with it because I was too lazy to put together my own play list. I did the whole C25k and actually ran in a 5k, but I stopped using the podcasts when it got to the sustained running, where you just did the warm up walk, RUN, and then cool down walk. At that point I started using my own music and just timed myself. I have recently put together my own play list, and if you’re motivated to escape the techno hell that is the C25k podcasts, you could put together your own music, just choose songs that are the right length … 5 minutes, 3 minutes, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, etc. and put them in the order of the intervals for that week’s C25k and then when the song changes, you know it’s time to walk, or run, as the case may be. Again, I was too lazy to do that, but man did that techno music make me cringe!!!

It’s not the techo music I am opposed too, it is the actual SONGS that he chose for week 4. The techo music actually works for me when running because I listen for the bass line and use that as my beat to keep going.
It is a GREAT movie though. First time I went and saw it I think I was the only person in the theater laughing (happens often — I have a weird sense of humor) I love it though!

Love your new ticker.
Mmmm, what a generous offer: “come and have your body fat measured any time you like.”
I’d be: “Well, thank you so much. I’ll be down there just as soon as I finish sticking my head in this vat of boiling oil.”
