I am not doing ANYTHING today…

June Goal No Comments »

Today WILL be a resting day. My body is going to hold a mutiny if I don’t. I haven’t worked this hard since high school. It doesn’t know what to do with itself!!

Yesterday was a running day and my progress is on my C25k page. At the risk of being redundant, I ran. It hurt. I did it though. It stopped hurting once I got started. After I ran I hit the weight machines. I think I used every machine avaliable for arms, backs, and shoulders. I did about 3 sets of 15 reps on every machine. The weights varied depending on which machine I was on. Well, maybe not EVERY machine, but I worked every muscle there is. By the time I was done, I felt if I lifted another weight I would throw up. I wanted to hop back on the elliptical afterwards but they were all taken so I jumped on a stationary bike for 15 minutes. My knees were crunching though (literally, I could hear and feel the cartalidge crunching) so I felt it best to stop. My upper body isn’t so sore which is surprising. I guess I’m getting stronger. Or maybe I need to up the weights. I just don’t want to overdo it. Slow and steady……

If I do anything today, it will be Debbie Siebers Slim and 6 pack or whatever she calls it. Basically, it’s an 11 minute ab workout. Lots and lots of crunches. Low impact. Hubby and I both agree we need to give our bodies a break. He may go do cardio, but no weights. We’ll go tomorrow and then I’ll go again Thursday to play volleyball. Perhaps I will have a hard body to go along with my 10lb weight loss!!

To eat or not to eat….

Journal, June Goal 1 Comment »

I SO want to eat. Not just eat a little or eat something healthy, I want to EAT!!! I have resisted though. I wasn’t going to eat after I worked out, so I made a Weight Watcher smoothie with some strawberries. But after I drank it, I still felt hungry. So I ended up making a potato and red pepper frittata. Plus, I needed to eat so I could take some ibruprofin. I am so sore. I have bruises in weird places. I only know how I got one of them.

I was tempted at lunch today too. I had brought some homemade chili pinto beans and was going to make a taco salad at lunch. Well, my friends dragged me out to Chili’s for lunch. I told myself in my head that I was going to get a side salad with a side of black beans and salsa and just make my own taco salad there. Well, apparantly there is like some samonella scare or something and they had NO tomatos or salsa!! WHAT?!?!?!?! That almost changed everything. I just about went for broke and ordered whatever I felt like. But no, I kept my cool and ordered a side salad with no fat honey mustard dressing. YAY!! I was still hungry when I got back to the office though so I ate my chili beans then.

Breakfast: shredded wheat, fat free milk, strawberries — all core

Snack: frozen grapes — all core

Lunch: side salad with fat free honey mustard (a little shredded cheese), chili pinto beans — all core except for the cheese but there wasn’t that much of it

Snack: cantalope, watermelon — all core

Dinner: weight watchers smoothie with strawberries, potato and red pepper fritatta — all core
triscuits - 2 points (2/35)

Bow-legged

Journal 2 Comments »

This is how I feel I am walking today. I went to the gym yesterday and hopped on the elliptical machine. OMG - that thing KICKED MY ASS!!! I had a lofty goal of doing 30 minutes. I only made it 20, but that was more than 5 minutes which is the point I really wanted to quit, so I called it even. WOW!! I could tell it was working different muscles than I am used too. BUT I LIKED IT!! I will probably use it as my off day exercise now instead of walking the treadmill.

Then to add insult to injury, I worked my legs. I think I did about every machine there were for legs. The hib abduction/adduction ones put me over the edge. They are the reason I am walking bowlegged today. I think those in combo with the elliptical machine did it. But I need to work them to thin out my upper thighs. Or at least tone them so they aren’t so flabby. I hope I am able to run today. I guess I’ll see. Maybe start out with a long walk to get my muscles loose.

Yesterday’s food could have been better (hence the reason I went to the gym in the first place):

Breakfast: Tofu Scramble — I will never be able to duplicate the 7 point frozen Amy’s Tofu Scramble. I don’t know why I keep trying. The one I ate was core because I made it without any oil. I should just bite the bullet and count the points and eat the one I like, but I keep trying. Plus, I saw the price went up like .30 cents, so I’ll keep trying.

Lunch: We ended up at a mexican restaurant for lunch. I got a grilled chicken salad (spinach, chicken, onions, candied walnuts, mandrin oranges) with a Mango Margarita Dressing. The worst thing on it were the walnuts and the dressing; however I indulged in chips and salsa. Man, I love those things. Oh, and 2 flour tortillas.

Dinner: Whole wheat spaghetti with fat free sauce mixed with leftover lean ground beef; 2 small leftover pieces of garlic cheese bread

I snacked on chips and crackers throughout the morning too. I felt after lunch that I needed to go to the gym, and then I got into a fight with my husband before I went to the grocery store. I really, really wanted to buy a candy bar or something bad at the store and eat it before I got home (which used to by my MO when upset) but I resisted and went and took out my frustration on that damn elliptical machine!! YAY ME!!

I think I have overdone it. Apparantly there is a thing as too much activity. I wasn’t sure if there was, but I think I have discovered there is. I am so physically exhausted. Maybe it’s because I’m getting old. 32 is right around the corner and peices and parts aren’t working as well as they used too.

Here’s a rundown of my day:

8:00 - Hit the gym for week 3 running and some weights.

9:45 - Wolfed down a Grilled Chicken/Egg bagel from Chick-fil-a. **Did you know they’d do that? I didn’t, but my husband did. Better than the fried patty you usually get.

10:00 - Volleyball game (we lost, but it turned out for the better I think - as you will see)

11:30 - Showered, put the baby down for a nap, iced my knee

3:00 - Son’s bday party at Mellow Mushroom: Veggie Sub with no mayo; 1 slice of pepperoni/sausage pizza; 4 pcs of garlic/cheese bread :(

5:00 - 1 1/2 games of bowling

7:00 - wolfed down PBJ sandwhich

7:30 - 1 1/2 hours of volleyball

I AM DONE!!! I should ice my knees again. They are quite sore. I have bruises in weird places. I didn’t want to eat the PBJ, but I was hungry when we got home from the party(why, I ate plenty) but I needed fuel to play more volleyball.

Tomorrow is a resting day, although a friend of mine said she may go to the gym so I told her to call me if she did. No running, but I’d do some cardio and some weights. I am becoming one of those crazy gym people. But I like it!!

A question for you runners..

I have a question for you running ladies. I know some of you run on the treadmill and run on the road as well. I’ve run on the treadmill for a week now and I know that running on the treadmill is easier than running on pavement. Since I’m training for a 5k that will obviously be run on the road, I thought that if I push the limit on the treadmill, than I should do just fine when I hit the road. Does this make sense?

What was with all the blog maintence today? It really messed up my day since I wasn’t able to mess around on the site all day at work.

I have been SO hungry today. I did really well on my food plan until I got home from work. Then I sort of lost it.

Breakfast: shredded wheat, fat free milk

Lunch: leftover Turkey and Hominy chili; carrots with f/f french dressing

Work Snack: carrots; mini nestle crunch bar

Home Snack: PBJ sandwhich; tortilla chips and dip; 1/2 chicken nugget; a few triscuits; a few spoonfuls of mac and cheese.

WHEW - I guess that was my dinner too b/c I had my weight loss group tonight and….. drum roll please…….

I lost 2.5 lbs since last weigh in!! WOO HOO!!! It’s been about 4 weeks or so since I weighed in b/c I haven’t been to group, but I was proud. I know that 2.5 was over the past 2 weeks because that’s when I started running and sticking to plan. The 2 weeks before that were hit or miss.

Today was an off day for exercise, but I have a full day tomorrow. Hubby wants to get to the gym at 8am, then we have a volleyball game at 10. If(when) we win that game, we play again at noon. Then we have my son’s bday party at 3 - pizza and bowling. I plan on getting a much healthier selection of a salad or veggie sandwhich.

A tough day

I don’t know what the deal was today. I have been SO hungry all day. So here’s the nitty gritty… the deep down dirty lowdown on what I have eaten:

Breakfast: shredded wheat, fat free milk, bananas

Lunch: Here’s where it got dicey!! My plan was to go pick up a salad from a restaurant and eat it at work. Well, that turned into 4 of us going to lunch together. So we get to the cafe and I see Sloppy Joes on the menu for their special!! I was thinking to myself, I am SO hungry! I was on the verge of eating my paperwork before we left for lunch. Anyway, I didn’t want the sloppy joe because I knew it would be bad. Then I was thinking, maybe a sandwhich. But that’s a lot of bread and cheese. SO… I got a Nature’s Salad with no croutons and Chicken and Dumpling Soup. Now, I’m sure you are thinking the same thing I am… cream based soup. When it came out, it was broth based!! YAY!!! So not so bad at all.

Work Snack: carrots

Home snack: triscuits and string cheese :(

Dinner: Turkey and Hominy Chili, fat free sour cream, fat free cheese - all core.
1 dinosaur shaped chicken nugget
3 bites of mac and cheese

Oops. I had done everything the same up until lunch. Why was I so hungry today. I know it’s not that time of the month, so that can’t be it. Maybe from all the exercise. My metabolism may have sped up? Not sure.

I am going to make up for it tonight though. Hubby went to the gym so I’m home with the kids, but as soon as they go to bed I’m doing Debbie Siebers!!!

Oh, and still no penny.

We’re on Poop Patrol

General, June Goal 2 Comments »

Yes, you read it correctly. My 18 month old swallowed a penny last night. So now we are on poop patrol. The daycare can deal with it today, but I did tell them they could save any messy diapers for me if they didn’t see the penny. Hopefully she’ll pass it within 3 days and I won’t have to take her to get xrays or..SURGERY! Keep your fingers crossed!

Went to the gym again last night. Walked for 20 minutes, but ran the last 2 at a 5.0 pace. I felt like I could keep going, but I decided not to push it. Then I did some leg weights. I’ll go tonight to run.

Food:
Breakfast: shredded wheat, f/f milk, 1/2 banana — core

Lunch: white bean and garlic stew, brown rice — core **I probably ate more than I should have, but I was hungry! When you eat breakfast at 6, it’s a LONG time until 11:00. Plus, with the Core Program, it says to eat until you are satisfied. I just finished and I do not feel full or uncomfortable, so I think I’m okay.

Dinner: We ate at Jason’s Deli after working out. They have a salad bar, so I took avantage of that. Lots of lettuce, peppers, onions, broccoli, tomatos, beans, mushrooms. They didn’t have any fat free dressing, so I tried their Low Fat Organic French. Pretty good! I also put a sprinkling of sunflower seeds on it for some good fat. Oh, and I had 2 crispy flatbreads, that were only 1 point a piece. Then I had samplings of strawberry shortcake, some chocolate mousse, and a mini pumpkin muffin. The salad was core besides the seeds and the dressing. I am going to guess that I had 10 points that were not core. That is probably guessing high, but safe. (14/25)

2 hour workout at the gym. My C25k progress is on my C25k page, you can read it there. I did arms, backs, and abs as well. I am sore. I took an ibubrofin when I got home. I am going to take these next 2 days and REST!!! I have volleyball playoffs on Saturday and I need to be ready. Weigh in day is this Friday. I’m a tad nervous.

Oh, and no penny yet.

A confession:

General 2 Comments »

I have a confession.

To quote getupnow:

I envy what seems to be the very little pain that you are having! I am guessing it is from the volleyball and stuff. Your legs are probably strong.

Don’t be envious. I haven’t been telling you about the leg pain I’ve been having. My legs are killing me!!! But it’s weird. It’s right below my knee and above my shin. Could it be a shin splint? Seems to high. Could it be my knees? Seems to low. The bizarre thing is that it DOESN’T HURT WHEN I RUN!! It only hurts afterwards. It hurts when I stand up, it hurts when I sit down, it hurts to go up and down stairs. But I haven’t been saying anything. So there, you now know my secret and you can stop being envious :)

Also, getupnow, you would LOVE Tijuana Flats! It is mexican but the best part is the HOT BAR!! They have at least 15-20 hot sauces from mild to super extreme hot!! You can buy their hot sauce too, but you have to sign a waiver for their most extreme hot sauce! And it is HOT!!! I tried a small, small, itty bitty drop on a chip and WOOOO - it burned. If you ever get to Central Florida, you have to check it out.
