Sluggard!
I’m not a bible-thumper-kinda-person, but there is a whole (lol please forgive the expression) crapload of wisdom in the book of Proverbs and so today I decided to look up something, anything that would apply to what I’m feeling.
Something jumped out at me. And this is it.
From Proverbs 6:
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.
How long will you lie there, you sluggard?
When will you get up from your sleep?
Sluggard. Sluggard! It’s not a word we use much anymore but it sounds so bad!! So I looked it up and Dictionary.com says it means:
“a person who is habitually inactive or lazy.”
Ummm. Guess what, I’m a sluggard. It’s a fair assessment! I don’t like to label myself as lazy - because I do what needs to be done, ya know? I run errands and clean and cook and do laundry and mow the grass, so how could I qualify as lazy? Well there’s that big fat “OR” right in front of the word up there.
Habitually inactive. Yep. Can’t deny it. That’s me!
I have a job where I often sit on my ass. Don’t have a choice about that, really - but what about in my free time?
In the evenings, I play on the computer or watch TV. On the weekends, my husband and I go shopping or to the movies or to the bookstore. Back when I lost that 60 lbs., we were going bike riding and playing tennis, using the elliptical, playing with the DDR, going for long walks - anything to get our butts moving. Moving!
I would say it’s time to get up from my sleep.

Boy/girl can I identify. I need to get off my inactivity and get MOVING! And physical movement isn’t the only thing I’m procrastinating, er, inactive on. Hmmm. Good one.
Ha! Reminds me of a verse from Proverbs my Dad would quote to my brothers when they would ride him about something: “The ravens of the valley will pluck out the eyes of the son who mocketh his father”.
I think I need some ants in my pants too!
Yeah, pretty much fits me to a tee, too. Been trying to get active again, with sporadic success. why why why?!?! I did so well all of 2009!
Alrighty then. Based my post on yours.
Right there with you. My down time is really down … on the couch. But I’m working it out. Thanks for sharing a great post.
And what I remember from the time you were so active was how much you enjoyed it. At first you’re going to have to make yourself do it but pretty soon you’ll be craving that activity. Go for it!!!!!
Yes, get moving girl! It will be hard at first but after a day or two you’ll be back in the groove and feeling so much better for it. I know I do. Now when I actually do sit on the couch I feel guilty because I crave movement.
Admitting it is the first step
Don’t give it up! Anytime one of us at work don’t feel like taking our daily walk we always talk to each into going
Be the ant
Girl you better not take off again! COME BACK.
Gurl, where you at??????????????????
