7/10-Friday

scaleI haven’t been weighing in.  Remember me?  I’m the OCD-gotta-weigh-myself-every-day-maybe-more-than-once-kinda-person?  Oh I’m not gonna change back into the never-weigh-myself-because-I-don’t-wanna-know-kinda-person that I used to be, nuh-uh.  Lately I just need a bit of a break.  From the weighing.  From the counting.  From the day-in-day-out-pressure.

I’m still staying on-plan with food but I’m definitely not “kicking butt” in the exercise department like I was planning to during the month of July!!  Not yet anyway.  The month is still young!

Today I had to take my mom to her doctor’s appointment.  It went well but turned into an all-day-do-all-her-errands-while-she-has-me-captive thing.  One good thing is that I put in almost two hours solid walking.  Until my feet hurt.  My knees ached.  My back hurt.  I was hungry, thirsty, and cranky.  But, she’s my mom, whaddya gonna do.  It’s not like I can tell her No.  No I won’t take you to pick up your prescriptions?  No I won’t take you to WalMart so you can get more lilac baby yarn for the afghan you’re knitting?  No I won’t stop at the grocery store?  No I won’t push you around in the wheelchair?  No I won’t drive you to Subway on the way home?  No I won’t go inside and get your food for you?  Of course I wouldn’t say No to any of those things.  She’s my mom.  And she’s 82 years old.  And she’s not gonna be around forever.

In other news, I’ve discovered Facebook.  Yeah yeah it’s been there all this time and I’ve been resistant to going there and getting sucked in.  But I finally go and submit myself to the sucking-in-process and realize that most of my family is on there and no one told me!  Geesh I feel like the last one to arrive at the party!  It’s kinda fun though, once you figure out how it all works.  I actually found two old-old friends on there, people I haven’t spoken to in 10 or 20 years!!  Very cool!!

I tried Facebook for a while but got sick of reading about how people just finished washing their dishes or that they’re really tired. Maybe I have boring friends.

You’re so right about helping your mom, we definitely owe them for all they did for us.

I know the feeling about helping your mom. I used to be the one to take her for all the errands exactly like you’re doing for your mom. My mom died of cancer 5 years ago. Enjoy her while you can and be grateful that you’re there to help her. I wish I was still helping my mom run errands. :(

    1) that scale pic is AWESOME
    2) glad you helped out your mom - it must be frustrating for her to be so dependant
    3) congrats on getting away from the scale habit!
    4) Welcome to Facebook. If you avoid the games and just use it to keep in touch with peope it’s fun and not too much of a time suck. Those who play the games and collect the stuff spend HOURS…

Hooray! I always like to hear about people breaking free of the scale, if only temporarily. I’m also one of those 2-3 times a day scale people…and since I need accurate readings, that means stripping down to my skivvies to weigh 2-3 times a day…no, nothing wrong with that.

Leaving the scale behind when we moved to the UP for the summer was tough, but I don’t miss it & it’s easier to see progress when you’re not measuring your progress based on what you weighed 2 hours earlier. There are clear losses ahead when you put a few weeks between each step on that scale. At least, that’s what I hope to find when I step on my scale again around mid-August.
    :)

http://www.facebook.com/jeninvegas if anyone is interested in adding me. Be sure to add “310 blog reader” or something in the personal message so I know to add you to the friends list that is allowed to see my personal stuff. The hundreds of others on my page are Mafia wars members who don’t get to see that personal stuff.
