Hubby agreed yesterday when I mentioned it, that yes! it would be fun to go out on our bikes. And then when I talked to Kevin (15yo son) he said he wanted to go too. So this afternoon we got the bikes out, gave them a cleaning and filled their tires, and packed waters (for me and Kevin) and gatorades (for Hubby). There’s a county trail nearby and Hubby asked me, “Which way?”
I said, “North.”
It was incredibly gorgeous. In the low 80’s, a warm salty breeze (at the north end, the trail is less than 1000 feet from the gulf), we all caught the infectious good mood that prevailed on that trail. Although it wasn’t exactly crowded, we must’ve met over 100 people coming the opposite direction and we exchanged hellos with most of them. At one point Kevin said, “I’m so glad we live in a friendly town.” Yes, I agreed, we do, but what I didn’t say is that, in my experience, people in most places are friendly to you when you’re friendly to them. But regardless, it seemed like everyone was in a good mood out there.
Of the three of us, I was the only one with an odometer/speedometer. We sailed along during the first three miles, our muscles warming and our butts getting reaquainted with our bike seats (lol). We paused at the entrance to a park to take a drink and then continued north. Three-and-a-half miles later, we stopped again for a drink and Kevin asked me how many miles we’d gone. I told him 6.5 and he said, “Wow, I figured we’d be home by six miles and we haven’t even stopped going north yet!”
We went to the end of the trail, which was at about the 8-mile mark. We went back home then, but not by the same route. We cut through a cemetary (that was fun!) and then rode on a sidewalk that was one hill after another. It was a great workout.
Altogether, when we got back home two hours after we started, we’d clocked 15 miles! OMG now, six hours later, I’m FEELIN’ IT!!! My thighs, my calves, my abs. (Yeah under all my fat I do have abdominal muscles, I only know this because they HURT!)
BUT - ya know what? I feel great. F’ING GREAT!!
