Tonight during Dancing with the Stars, I got to thinking about the whole TV addiction thing. Seriously, for the past 15 years I just haven’t been into TV. Other than keeping up with my soap (and all you have to do for that is tune in once a month, lol), I just wasn’t interested in being a regular watcher of any show on TV.
Then they started posting TV shows online, so I could watch it whenever, instead of during it’s TV time slot. Suddenly TV seemed much more accessible, and so I started watching stuff - and getting hooked in the process.
The other day when I blogged about the shows I watch, I surprised myself by listing thirteen different shows! Thirteen! OMG, I had no idea that I was regularly watching THAT many shows! I felt really guilty when I realized just how much time I waste SITTING in front of either the TV or the computer screen. So, right in the middle of DWTS tonight, I pulled out the exercise bike (dusted it off, ha), and pedaled for the rest of the show. The batteries were dead in the little indicator thingie but I pedaled on anyway (so I don’t know how far I went, just that I pedaled for 45 minutes).
I can’t really use the exercise bike while watching my online shows (I’ve tried) but at least I can make better use of the time in the TV room.
I also did an hour of DDR tonight. I felt great! I even did a few of the jumps, but I’m still taking it careful.

Ok. This made me think. So I counted my tv shows (I count calories, fat grams, sodium, and fiber so why not count tv too, ha ha). There are times of year when I have at least seven shows. There are evenings when I watch for three hours straight! But I figure if I wasn’t watching tv, I would sit at the computer and gawk at stuff online. I guess it just seems to be the way I like to wind down my day.
GREAT job on the biking!
I have been thinking about your lack of warm breakfast. I am thinking maybe a souffle would work? I can see where it would be hard to come up with anything since you are counting carbs and calories. Give it a month or so and I will be wanting to trade places with you and have a nice cold breakfast in nice warm Florida.
WOW, you inspire me! My exercise is sadly lacking these days……..I remember when I’d be at the gym 3 days a week at 6:40am and stay till after ladies lite aerobics which ended at 9:40……….how lazy I gotten.
I didn’t watch tv for years; lately I’m getting favorite shows again. Last night I found myself getting miffed when A. asked me to proof one of her papers during one of my “shows”—6 pages on women and marriage in Regency England which she’s spent weeks on—-how sad is that?
You go, girl! Look at those pictures of you. WTG!! I love reading your stuff about bikes, dinner, son, etc. etc. - Such a great attitude and lifestyle. Yep, you!! Thanks for the nice note. My goal is to get where you are… and then look in the rearview mirror. =)
What a great use of tv time. Even if you only bike for a portion of the time you watch tv I bet you’ll see a difference.
AWESOME on the TV time! I do that too - great minds think alike
Love LOVE the pictures, such a big difference!
