Better & Better

Posted by: delitaagain In: New Me

Hafta tell ya, I’m pretty excited about realizing I’m wearing the same size I was wearing 15 years ago. That was the year I moved to NC. And, I was too large for it at least half the time since.

Plus, I’m completely healthy (have been for ten years). Feel great, feel like jumping up and doing something. Feels wonderful after so many years sick and wanting only to lie on the couch.

Plus, I’m stronger and more fit every year, or at least, over all. Last year I deadlifted over 200 pounds. Several times! LOL This year I’ll be sixty.

Three things I did that each made a HUGE difference:

  • Joined a gym and started working out, at age 43.
  • Learned to hike and hike some on the AT, age 49.
  • Started CrossFit, which I will get back to, age 57.

Each of these has changed my life, in HUGE ways, for the better. I really think if I hadn’t ever started working out I would weigh 400-500 pounds now.

I also learned to focus on eating good stuff instead of trying to avoid bad stuff. HUGE. Huge.

Plus, I keep getting happier with my life. It was almost three years ago when I was invited to leave my job and let God lead me step by step. It is an adventure and it keeps getting better.

I am truly content. I can easily see many things I want to change and improve on, but, hey, I’m contented with my life today. And, I can see it keep getting better.

At 21, I saw my life as an accelerating downward spiral. This is better. Way better. What’s not to like?

Play along: What do you especially like about your life?

Thank you for reminding me that it’s not too late to make a change :)

What do I like about my life? Honestly, just about everything. I have a loving husband, generally great kids, a rewarding career and great friends. Life isn’t perfect but it’s pretty good.

Awwww, that’s awesome! I just started living healthy last year and I’m soooo much happier. It’s such an inspiration seeing how you’ve progressed. The Appalachian Trail is insane that is an amazing goal. I look forward to reading more about your progress!!! :)

Sounds wonderful :)

Right now what I’m liking about my life is that it’s going in a direction I want it to. I keep praying for patience because I always feel like things never happen fast enough… careerwise, weightwise, etc.

Awesome, awesome you!

Here I am at 43 and finally having made the decision to take control of my weight again. I’ve lost 20 pounds and have 46 to go, and am feeling great. I’m like beerab though, and need to learn patience, because I want it now! I wonder where I’ll be at 60.

I totally agree with the philosophy of fitting more healthy food into your diet, rather than cutting out “bad” food.

I pretty much like everything about my life, and the only time I don’t is when the automatic programming that makes us forget what we know kicks in…so thanks for the reminder!

Oh gosh this post is great! I love your story and discussion of the various signposts that have brought you to your success.

I too learned to put the “focus on the positive” of what I’m eating (more fruit & veg, nutrition elements, etc) instead of the negative of what I’m avoiding. Huge mental shift that made me so much saner about food.

what I especially like about my life? My husband, living in France & feeling like I can handle what life throws at me
