Falling In Love Again…

Posted by: delitaagain In: Hiker me

Please forgive me faithful readers for failure to post. My love is back again… HIKING!

You have to know a little background to know how great this is. Most of my life was one of sickness. About age 16 I fell in love with the idea of hiking the Appalachian Trail, around 2,170 miles. But, never did learn to hike. Never was well enough. At age 49 Jesus had healed me of many things and I learned how to control exercised induced hypoglycemia. I celebrated by learning to backpack and hiking three days on the AT. I fell in love with hiking!

A few years later I got really busy and put on 50 plus pounds. I got too heavy (150 pounds overweight) to carry the additional weight of a pack or hike. I got to where I would park illegally to keep from walking 1/2 mile.

Now I am back at my hiking weight and my hiking duds fit! And the hiking bug has bitten me again. I walked/hiked 15 miles last week and 7.75 so far this week with a 5.5 mile hike next today. This is working on getting in shape to backpack. More later…

Wow, good for you Delita! Happy to hear that your hiking clothes of 10+ years ago fit again! I’m not the outdoorsy type, so no hiking for me. I’ll do my walking in civilization, don’t like the critters that one encounters in the wilderness. That’s just me and my opinion, but good for you!

That is so exciting that you’re able to do something that you loved so much. We live in a flat area so there isn’t a lot of hiking available but I remember years ago when I was in Costa Rica that I couldn’t get enough. Hike a mile or 2 for me, will you?

Sandi, thanks! I do heart this stuff. Funny, I knew my lifestyle was me in a Walmart parking lot with a friend jumping off my RV in a 34 degree drizzle while I was happy as a clam warm and dry in my hiker duds. LOL

brseay, will do! Costa Rica has got to be gorgeous. Maybe some day you and I can hit the hiking trail together for a few hours when I’m passing through your neighborhood…
