Good Things…. And, Other Things…

Posted by: delitaagain In: New Me

I was pleased to find some great posts by hotwings over over at Hot Wings & Other Things, but especially on this Super Bowl Sunday you may want to read her *about* tab before making assumptions about the blog title. =)

I was enjoying her posts before getting really excited to see she was posting (from sad experience, unfortunately) about sucralose. I especially encourage you to read that one if you are or have ever been a Splenda user. Many people have asked me what’s wrong with sucralose - “after all, it’s made from sugar.”

Yes, but, as she points out, it is made by chlorinating sugar molecules, and, it is a *left-handed* molecule. I’m especially NOT in favor of introducing left-handed molecules into my body.

Also, research so far shows that artificial sweetners lead to weight gain. And that seems to be especially true about the ubiquitous diet coke (sweetened with aspartame).

I’m not sure about sucralose but I know that the aspartame sits in the same neuroreceptors in the brain as cocaine. My understanding is that aspartame is actually MORE addictive than caffeine. This is why people who are not losing weight on it and who hear that research shows it leads to weight gain won’t give it up. Yuk.

Okay, please help yourself and do a little reading up, especially if you depend on artificial sweeteners. Really, there is so much more to say, but, I digress.

Today is a beautiful sunny day and I haven’t walked yet but still may. I skipped breakfast (which I often do on church days), but then had the most wonderful roast chicken lunch with *all the fixings* right down to gravy and cranberry sauce, followed later by a fresh coffee and warm brownie. I know, I know, too much information!! LOL

Even better than that was the fun and conversation with two friends (one who provided the beautiful home setting complete with dinner and dogs)!

Dinner will be my luscious soup, made yesterday, from the cans and such that showed up. Let’s see: Campbells chicken soup , Campbell’s concentrated tomato soup, two cans of water a can of Hoppin’ John (black-eyed peas, tomatoes, onions, jalapeno), a can of green beans, 4 small potatoes (sliced, skin on), one chopped onion, half-teaspoon red pepper, a little oregano, a few grinds black pepper, sea salt, and, a large can of chicken. Instant Homemade Soup! Yum!

Red JacketNow I’m enjoying a gingerale and *thinking* about walking before prayer tonight. I am definitely going to get in at least two large glasses of water. Hmmmm…

I also celebrated yesterday wearing my old camping long johns (that I was sure would be too tight), and they were loose!!

Today, I wore a favorite red jacket (with burgandy velvet slacks) to church that I couldn’t even come close to buttoning 2-3 months ago, and it was loose! Wahoo! I think I am fully into an 18W, but I’ll have to try on my blue suit to be sure. If I am, I’ll fix my eye seriously on the 18 misses size, which is down about one more size.

Play along: What *one more good thing* are you going to do for yourself today?

One more good thing is workout longer today than normal!

I agree with the fake sugar- I rarely use it honestly. When I happen to have some coffee I’ll have a bit of equal in it, but for the most part I don’t use the stuff. If I’m having tea I put honey in it- it’s very good for you so I don’t mind the few calories :)

That’s so great about the clothes fitting, being loose even! For me that’s WAY more motivating than numbers on the scale.

I’m not a fan of fake sugars either — started towards that several years ago and now just really dislike both the taste & the concept of them. I think they play a role, and probably in small quantities are okay, but I’ve learned to just eat less stuff that tastes sweet.

I also hate artifical sweetners!!! They’ve been linked to causing cancer, but of course those reports aren’t going to be made public. :P

Oh and your lunch yesterday sounds amazing! Now I’m hungry for chicken. LOL. :)

Hey! Thanks so much for the link to my blog :) That sucralose can be some nasty stuff. 18W - that is awesome. I can’t wait to get there. Try on the suit! Try on the suit! ;)
