WooHoo!

Monday was day four of no dew or sweet tea. And, I’m still clean of those addictive-to-me drinks.

It is not just the calories, or even the caffeine (which I’m over sensitive to). These are gateway drugs to me. Once I’m having those, I find myself willing to say yes to other (harder?) foods. And, once I get them out of my system I don’t miss them, or crave other things. PLUS, that is a boatload fewer of empty calories and triggering every day.

Day four is the dread *hump day* on getting free of addictions. I MADE IT!!

I did have some grape soda the last two days but that won’t trigger me once it is gone. I also had some ice cream and pastries bought for a celebration - but - I’m refusing to focus on food while I do this.

My original goal was to just focus on increasing water; the dew and tea just fell away once I did that. This is WAY beyond anything I would have thought to try for. That’s the “building habits works - bad things just fall away” thing.

Tomorrow is weigh-in. I think I will pick a new focus and just stick to one focus at a time for a while, working on building good habits. I had actually been working on water for a couple weeks but just started charting Friday and look what happened!!

What has changed for you lately?

I gave up Diet Coke/Coke Zero over a month ago and haven’t looked back. I’ve been addicted to the stuff since I was 16!! I was drinking gallons of it a day. I had probably gone months if not years without drinking anything but Diet Coke! I’m not exaggerating. I’ve tried to give it up in the past, but this time is the longest I’ve ever gone and I don’t have any cravings for it at all. All it took was realizing that in the nine months I’m training for my marathon, I would spend at least $1940.00 on Diet Coke. Yes, almost $2K just on Diet Coke in 9 months!! That was it. I’m done! I drink water for free all day long. And I always wondered how people could afford to smoke cigarettes! Ha, they look like a bargain in comparison! I was spending a minimum of $8 a day. MINIMUM! Some days much much more!! Crazy, huh!

sandi - I’m really liking this, too! I used to try to focus on three but even that left me enough room to run around in circles. LOL This is better.

firefly, CONGRATULAIONS! that is the *worst* addiction for us, at least the hardest to break and affects us in the most awful ways. Yay for you on the marathon training! Delita
