We Need to Re-define *GREAT*

Posted by: delitaagain In: Lessons Learned

As in: you are doing GREAT!!

How many times have I read posts in diet-blogs bemoaning the lack of weight loss while recounting the many right choices, diligent walks or workouts, or worse, life tragedies successfully navigated.

We need to re-define *great* from seeing the numbers we like to congratulating a job well done: choices made, little decisions and follow-through in spite of a sometimes un-budging scale.

If you got up today and made choices on food, exercise, life - based on what is good for you and the goals you would like to achieve - you are doing GREAT!! Whether or not the scale shows it yet.

And I hope you recognize that about yourself and others, and give an encouraging word and a pat on the back for successful choices and right behaviors, not just number results. Results are one reward. Good choices and actions *are* the GREAT achievements.

Amen. We need to stop defining weight loss as our only result. In my mind, losing three pounds isn’t nearly as monumental as halving your time on a three mile run, or staying on plan despite stress and temptation. If we really want to change our lifestyles, we need to celebrate those changes just as much, if not more than, our weightloss. Really, we’re all here to change our lives, and dropping pounds is a result of the change, NOT the change.

Oh man! That recipe for Pork Asado sounds fantastic. Don’t suppose you know anything about the nutritional value? Still, there aren’t many ingredients so it should be easy enough to figure out. Looks like something DH and I would love! Who’s the homesick Texan?

I completely agree!

There are times I let myself get really down when I’ve had a healthy week of fitness and healthy eating and the scale doesn’t budge, or worse, goes up a half pound, but I’m trying to change that. I’m doing what’s right and healthy for me, and sometimes the scale won’t reflect all my hard work, but eventually, if I stick to it, it starts moving in the right direction again. Besides, there are so many other benefits to a healthy lifestyle than just what the scale says.
