Progress in the Rearview Mirror

Posted by: delitaagain In: Lessons Learned

Thanks to Patty for reminding me about this.

Progress is best measured looking in the rear view mirror. When we look ahead, we tend to gauge the distance between where we are and the horizon.

As we move forward, the horizon moves with us. No matter how much progress we’ve made when we look ahead we tend to see how far we would like to go.

But when we look back over our shoulder and get a glimpse of how far we have come, then we can truly see our progress.

I’m grateful today for the progress I’ve made.

Great post. When I first saw the title, I thought about the idea of looking into a mirror and seeing my rear.

It’s also another way to gauge your progress, by looking in the mirror and remembering what you looked like before.

Weight loss doesn’t always show on the scale, but I know I can see it in my face or waist or even once in a while, in my rear…………………….:)

Sandi - Thanks! This has been one of the most memorable things that has helped me make sense of my life! BTW, I clicked on your name and I don’t think it took me to your blog. Great to see you! Hope you are well! Delita

Hey, Lisa- too funny! Right you are! I did that recently, too, and have been exercising and noticing I’m tightening up back there. YEA! I like both kinds of progress. Thanks for stopping by. So, does this mean you are from Iowa? Delita

Gonnabe - thanks - that is exactly how it felt to me when I came across it and ever since, which was about 25 years ago. I really do tend to measure myself as not making good progress - until I remember to look in the rear view mirror and get grateful. Always good to remember. Thanks! Delita
