Eat More to Weigh Less - EGGS!

Posted by: delitaagain In: Food

Boy/girl, is this true! Today I would like to shine the light on the humble egg. We’ve all met him (her?), probably dressed up in any number of outfits. But, *they* say, don’t eat too many eggs… Fat! Cholesterol! Oh no!

Well, I’m hear with a plea. Wouldn’t God make the very nest of life a perfect food? And there is research to back this up!

Dig in to eggs, yolks and all: They won’t harm your heart, but they can help you trim inches. Women on a low-calorie diet who ate an egg with toast and jelly each morning lost twice as many pounds as those who had a bagel breakfast with the same number of calories but no eggs, a study from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge reports. “Egg protein is filling, so you eat less later in the day,” says David Grotto, R.D., author of 101 Foods That Could Save Your Life (Bantam).

Eat more Omelets and scrambles are obvious choices, but if you can’t cook before work, bake a frittata on Sunday; chill it and nuke slices for up to a week. An easy recipe: Vegetable Frittata.

Well, what does this mean, eggs won’t harm your heart??

The cholesterol in eggs is not the kind that collects in your arteries. AND, the only way your body can clean out those clogged arteries is with lecithin, which your body needs to make *on-site* so to speak. AND, the very nutrients your body needs to make that all-important lecithin just happen to be in EGG YOLKS! (Not whites, just the yolks.)

Yes, folks, your body needs egg yolks, not just whites. Whites don’t have the very nutrients we need to roto-rooter our arteries and save our hearts.

One time, due to an unhealthy condition and a very savvy doctor, I ate eggs 4-6 times a day for months. The next time I saw my regular doctor he commented: I don’t understand. Not only is your cholesterol low, it is the lowest I have ever seen in anyone. I also lost weight.

See folks, eat the yolks. Lower your cholesterol. Your body needs eggs.

But what about the fat? you might ask.

Do eggs belong on a diet breakfast menu? Perhaps, if the goal is to feel full and eat fewer calories all day long, according to new research.

The news doesn’t focus on fat, proteins, carbohydrates, or cholesterol, all of which may be important to dieters and nondieters alike.

Instead, the study concentrates on satiety, the feeling of fullness. As any dieter can tell you, feeling satisfied after a meal can make a big difference in sticking with a weight loss program.

Basically the results showed that dieters who ate eggs for breakfast chose fewer calories for the rest of the day and also the next day!

I’m telling ya… eggs. You will be glad.

The first quote above was taken from Shine from Yahoo, in a great article on 20 Superfoods for Weightloss .

The second quote on dieters eating eggs is from Web MD ,Egg Breakfast May Help Weight Loss Diet.

Eggs. What your body needs. Have some, they’re good! And good for you!

Thanks for this one Delita! I’ve been eating egg whites for so long, but I have eggs when I go out for breakfast. I like egg whites, maybe because I’m so used to eating them. This news will help my wallet, since I bought the whites in a container they cost more than a dozen of eggs! I still buy eggs since my husband doesn’t like whites.
Hmmm, I think I’ll have eggs this morning! ~~~ Sandi

Yay! It’s great to see someone sticking up for the fabulous egg. I keep chooks (chickens/hens/domestic poultry) because I love their eggs (and because they’re nice people). People love my hens’ eggs because mine are free range. The yolks are a deep golden/orange colour.

Thanks for the info, Delita. I made it a habit to have a hard boiled egg and 6 oz. of tomato juice for breakfast for a long time as part of the South Beach diet and, come to think of it, I DID rather enjoy it and felt full!
