Lesson Learned: Transitions are Never Smooth

Posted by: delitaagain In: Lessons Learned

Here’s a quote that has helped me a lot:

 Transitions are never smooth.

Every time I remember that I think about all the times my family took a small boat between two islands, heading out into the gulf stream. In that place of transition, between the inter-coastal (barrier island protected) waterway and the open ocean, currents ran together around of those two islands and basically *crossed* each other in that narrow opening, making for choppy water! But once you cleared the transition place and got out into open water, seas smoothed out again.

Like my life - I’m in transition between doing the strict Flat Belly Diet and making dieting a lifestyle that I can keep up long term, until I reach my goal, and then maintain for the rest of my life. It helps a lot to know that this place I’m in is not smooth sailing *because* I’m in transition. If I keep moving forward, I will hit open seas again, and smooth sailing. See?

Hey Delita - Good analogy, it makes perfect sense. Life gets in the way sometimes of achieving our goals/dreams, but we just have to get back into the stream of things, you know what they say about falling off a bicycle, horse, or wagon (just kidding), you get right back on. I don’t think there will be any change in the scale this week for me, but that’s okay. I know the reason, and I know I’m going to have better weeks stress-wise. This week was a doozie for me, but it’s behind me now. talk to you soon ~~~ Sandi

Wow, that’s a great metaphor. It’s good to remind ourselves that hard times don’t last forever and that we can get through the choppy waters.

That is so true. We all go through some transition and we need to stay strong till the end! :)
I posted something and I think you are going to like it, too… It’s about ALL or NOTHING mentality which I used to be all about. But oh well, not anymore. :)
