eight week challenge complete

Well, today marks the end of the eight week weight loss challenge I was participating in.  I had a banner week and lost 3 lbs!  I ran almost every day this week and really did a great job watching my diet.  I’ll know later today if I won the $180 or so prize :)

Interestingly enough, last night I had to work an event late and had dinner out.  I ended up drinking a bottle of Coke.  I have been a soft drink fiend my whole life, and this time, it was just not that good.  I have been off soda for nearly two months, my only sodas have been on a road trip and a flight.  I just didn’t really enjoy it.  However, I was tired and needed the sugar and caffeine.  I now know that I can safely avoid the stuff unless it’s a rare occasion.  That’s progress.

Never been so happy with a <1 lb loss week

Last week I was over the moon with another good loss for the week.  On that same day, I found out that my great uncle had passed away and I hastily made plans to attend the funeral over the weekend.  It was a 5 hour each way drive, and I was doing the drive on little sleep which meant:  sugar and calories galore.

Of course, with funerals comes food.  I tried to be good, but it was hard to stay on my diet.  One thing I really hate about having weigh ins on Wednesdays is that you have very little time to recover from the weekend if you go off plan.  When I arrived back in town on Sunday evening, I weighed in just to see how bad I had been.  I was at 218, up 4.6 from the previous Wednesday’s weigh in.  I had a run on Monday and then decided to add one on Tuesday as well.  On today’s run, I was extra good and added 5 more minutes to my run time, making it a 30 minute day.  I have been very on plan with my diet, and I was able to get the scale down 5.4 lbs from Sunday night.  Not too bad.  I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to lose less than a pound in a week.

keep on track

I had a fabulous trip to Chicago last weekend.  Got to see my friends from college and go to a football game at my alma mater.  We won, in a downpour of rain, but it was so much fun!  I also ate out for lunch that day and spent 3 hours at a tailgate.  Yep.  Bratwurst (I had 1/2 of one), beer (2 of those), and chips and guacamole (my personal kryptonite).  When I got on the scale Sunday night, I was up 1.4 lbs.  It wasn’t unexpected, but I was worried I couldn’t make enough progress by today– weigh in day.

So, I did my C25K Week 5 Day 3 run (20 minutes uninterrupted) on Monday, and then added a 45 minute (2.5 mile) power walk on Tuesday.  Today was my first day of Week 6.  I stepped on the scale and WHAMMO!  I’m down 1.4 lbs.

During class yesterday we did an exercise about functions of the brain.  We all had candy bars with various statements taped to the back of each. Then we had to pass them to the correct “part” of the brain.  After we reviewed them all, the professor passed the candy around for us to eat.  I said, “no thanks.”  It was a challenge, but I did it.

super scale movement!

Well, after all the whinging I did last week about the scale not moving…. BOOM!  I lost 3.4 pounds this week.  I think some of it is due to the fact that I did a ton of walking over the weekend at the Irish Festival and didn’t consume any of the yummy, albeit dangerously high in calories and fat, food.  I didn’t even have a Guinness.  I did treat myself to a cherry limeade, as it was sweltering and in the upper 90’s.

So, here’s the good news:

I know that the scale doesn’t tell the whole story, but this means I’m back on track for my goals.  I am losing just around 2 lbs a week.

Anyway, yay me.

victory!

So I had written a post yesterday about how bummed I was that the scale wasn’t moving.  Yesterday I was home all day, which is usually a bit of a danger.  I decided that I just couldn’t do the Herbalife shake for both breakfast and lunch, so I actually ate lunch.

I stayed within my calorie limits.

Today was a running day and I dilly dallied around the house (after waking up late).  It was hot and I paid the price when I finally got out to run.  It was a hard run…  but I completed it.  I finished the week strong.

Hopped on the scale when I got back and BOOM!  I was down to 216.2.  This is after being stuck at 218 for about a week.

Going to the KC Irish festival where there will be lots of walking.  There will also be temptation (Guinness, fish and chips, shepherd’s pie), but I will resist.

Hitting the shower, then having a late breakfast shake.

Go me!
