welcome back!

I am private about dieting also. Its more superstition than anything else. Having said that, I was that annoying girl when I was 24. I wasn't babbling about dieting, but went on and on about every detail of my life as if it was more interesting than everyone else's lives. What I didn't know at the time was that other people had much more interesting lives - but they didn't share every detail!

Anyway, I think someone like that is bound to tire of her diet eventually. But if she doesn't there are ways....

This is a trick I learned when I had a compulsive liar for a roommate. I didn't want to tell him to shut up, and I didn't want to confront him as a liar. So instead I tried this...

When she talks, give eye contact but say nothing in response. Let her talk until she's done. Don't comment, reply, nod, laugh, anything. As soon as she's silent, return to the topic you were discussing before.

I hope it works for you like it did for me!

I am an odd mix. I will pretty much talk about anything, but only when invited to. If I was saying something that bothered others around me I would want to know. Maybe if you let her know she is giving to much info she might tone it down. It would probably take a bunch of preplanning to be polite though (still better than punching her in the face :)
The fishing for compliments I can't think of anything better than just to ignore her. Maybe she has low self esteem.
Good luck.

I agree that a healthy balance is tough to achieve. I love cooking and eating and vacationing and indulging. Its tough to be so good all the time, but its worth it when you get to have some good cake every now and again!

How is this going for you? Very hard to go back when you feel like it is a step backwards. You are going to have to occupy your mind with anything besides eating! It is the only way to break that - you already recognize it, now you just need to replace the eating aspect in your mind with something else. Hard to do - but it gets easier over time. :)

I was always the slow person running too. I hope that schools have stopped the practice of humiliating students! It would be nice if the next generation of kids could come out of school enjoying exercise, not being traumatized by it.

That is possibly the best thing you could have said to me, I laughed out loud!

The problem for me is that if I had bought a truly awesome, novel toothbrush that was doing amazing things for me, I would want to talk about it...

I'm going to have to relegate that impulse to blogging though. I can talk about my workouts all I want here, and I'll have to remember that!

Turbo sculpt is a fun workout. I really like Chalene Johnson, she's not one of those peppy, cheerleader types. I seriously think she'd show up at my door someday and kick my butt if I quit working out.

I know when I first started working out regularly and stuck w/it that I talked about it incessantly. Part of it was b/c I was still severly overweight (still am, actually) and I didn't want people to think that I'm a lazy person who just sits around. Maybe, too, it was b/c I was still forming the habit and it wasn't just a part of life for me. But now that it is I don't have to think about it; it's like brushing my teeth or shutting off the alarm in the morning. I don't tell people about my awesome toothbrush, so now I don't need to tell them about how long I walked.
