a journey into the psyche of weight gain

Grazing

Given some time to ponder, I have concluded that I am a grazer.  I do not really like set meals, more a case of it being the socially acceptable way to go.  I could be quite content grazing all day - not necessarily bad food, just constant consumption.

This made me think that perhaps I should just graze - well until I have dinner with my husband.  Grazing is actually something that needs to be thought out.  One of my problems I suspect is that grazing on chocolate is easier than making carrot sticks!  I have actually bought a bag of baby carrots but getting into the habit of grazing healthy  is harder than I thought it would be.

On the job front, I am off for the holidays until Jan 5.  I have 22 kids leaving at the end of this semester - and we expect a less difficult time after they are gone.  One got to leave earlier than planned when we discovered he was extorting money from a younger student.  He actually said “I never punched him.  I grabbed him by the collar and threw him against the wall a couple of times, but I never punched him”.  Warms the heart, doesn’t it?!!

Meanwhile, my principal is about numbers.  She is telling me that I have to take anyone and everyone to get those 22 back or else one teacher will lose her/his job next year.  I pointed out that two of our teachers are on contract (with jobs to go back to) so one of their positions will go.  She said it is the teacher with the least seniority and was not too happy when I added that they do look at teaching subjects  before making any cuts.  At one point I had a veiled threat that if I want to go onto becoming a VP I need to do what she is suggesting.  I would rather forfeith the promotion than bring in kids who are basically a safety risk to our student and staff population.

Oh and the young woman who spit in my face is out of jail.  Apparently the judge was hearing her cocaine trafficking charge and as a Christmas tiding decided to drop 10 other charges (including assaulting a police officer) if she pleaded guilty to trafficking.  I have been told she will not be allowed in the school while I am there.  I am guessing that idea will drop and she’ll be back in Feb. I am not particularly worried but apparently the student population will see fit to spit in all of our faces if they see so little is done.  At least extortion kid was due to leave for other reasons.

And so this is Christmas.

Happy Holidays!

Living the Dream

HI everyone!  This is a fly by posting.  Nothing really new to report.  For some time I have been using the phrase “Living the Dream” whenever someone asks me how I am.  My theory is to simply change the dream to whatever I am living that day.  My new conclusion is that if no one spits on me, then I am living the dream.  Hey, if you lower the bar enough….

Today we had a brief reception for students who passed both their courses (they take one in the AM and one in the PM for 9 weeks) for the first quad (we have quads rather than semesters).  I had a chocolate slab cake which was actually fresh!  Some pastries (two bite brownies etc) and juice.  Each honouree was given a certificate and a travel mug.  AND they got to bring one friend.  All this was done for about 30 minutes during the morning class.  It is not cool to be enthusiastic, but I heard later that some of the kids were really happy about it.  For many, it is the first success they have ever had in school and now they can give their parents the certificate and enjoy the mug.  One kid told me it was the first mug he ever owned himself.

That’s about it for this coolish night.

Cheers
