Fighting the Dark Cloud of pudge!!

a journey into the psyche of weight gain

I did it!

Yes, I miraculously made my January goal of 195 lbs.  I was quite shocked as yesterday’s VP for night school interview was a disaster so I had a slight chocolate overdoes when I got home!  Actually it started en route home with what I had in my purse!

Today I see the dressmaker!!  I am hoping the dress will e a great waitte loss inspiration.

Have a magical day!

Same old Same old

Well,no real progress. Granted TOM is just waiting to happen, so there may be progress I am not aware of!

Still plowing through all the wedding plans. I am meeting with the dressmaker tomorrow. I am attempting to upload the photo of the dress so I hope you can get some idea of it. Not as glamourous as the $3000 one, but template of my dressI like it.

I have the night school VP interview at 3pm. As a day school VP is also up for it, I am not hedging my bets. AND the weather is dreadful with high winds and ice storms in the forecast. (oh yay!!!) Wish me luck. Friday I find out if I made the CV cut for a day school VP job next year. It is so political that I have no idea how it will go. BUT if I cannot make the cut then I think I should consider going back into the gov’t (less stress than an inner city school - that’s for sure!)

Off to walk the dogs!

Where have I been???

OK, I know it has been a few days - sorry.  End of semester and things have been hectic.

Good news, I have maintained. Not as great as losing, but noting that I had three vials injected into my spider veins again on Friday, I could be registering a loss and not know it!  Absorb liquid!!!  It wasn’t as bad this time.  I guess it is like waxing…it gets easier with time???

I did not get the job as Assistant Head of the Arts at another school.  They said I came in second.  (Do they say that to all the ‘losers’??).  Anyway, as it is technically a demotion, I am not upset. I didn’t expect to get it as I am a drama teacher and they have a huge music programme.  What I did get was excellent feedback for when/if I make it to the next step of the Vice Principal process.  I hear that on Friday.

This weekend my Maid of Honour (size 10 - 12!! :P) and I went to a bridal show.  We had fun.  Most of the items I have already got a handle on- I was looking at Honeymoons and Limos this show.  (My invitations are being printed as I write!  Keeping in mind that both of our Mothers happen to be named Iris, we chose to use the flower, iris, as our anchor theme.  This really reduced the invitation search as there were only about 5 or 6 choices.  Here is what I am going with.    www.finestationery.com/product.cfm?prod_id=43690&cm_thiscategory=3000001&cat_id=15&subcat_id=2&cat=2  - but with different names as those people are not us!) Right now Paul and I are thinking of a honeymoon in Glasgow with a side trip to either Oslo or Prague.  Any feedback on that?  We do not want anywhere too hot in July- esp since a lot of Europe is not air conditioned.

I have also picked up our ketubah.  In Judaism this is the marriage license.  Apparently in Hebrew (which I cannot read, write or speak) this basically protects the woman as the man is forced to give her a certain number of sheep, goats etc. if he leaves her.  Obviously this is a traditional thing, but I did tell Paul I think “cleaning lady” should be reflected somewhere in the text!  We went with “Reform” text as neither of us are very religious.  (He is the one who pressed for the Jewish wedding- I was happy with “drive thru Elvis chapel in Vegas”!).  Here is what the ketubah more or less looks like.

www.ketubah.com/engine.cfm?i=33&dID=001-043

And finally,I have chosen my dressmaker.  Of course I have to tell HER that.  This is her site  www.catherinelanglois.com/

She seems to have simple (meaning not wedding cake type) dresses.  The one I looked at is not there (naturally) but should be on her site soon.  It has a lace top and silk skirt.  I wanted it just below the knee and the two pieces separate so that I can wear them again.  She said she can make a jacket for me too.

So, as you can see, I have been quite busy.  At this point, I think you are more on top of my wedding than the Maid of Honour is!

According to my long term weight plan, I need to lose one more pound by the end of Jan to make my Jan goal of 195 pounds.  This evening I am going to a pub for dinner.  I have not been to this pub before but I am sure I can get something within the caloric range.  Of course the fact I found, and ate a fair chunk of, a large Hershey’s kiss,  has lowered my allotment!

Hubby seems to be improving.  He had to take a sample to the lab so should know if he has the bacterial infection that appears to be plaguing CT right now, in a few days.

Cheers!

maintained

No complaints.  I have managed to keep at 195.5.  Yes, I would like to move downward on the scale, and I hope to this week, but sometimes, I think my body just needs to stop and adjust for a few days.

Work has been stressful.  Semester is ending both in day school and night school.  I have just completed the report card comments (and marks) for night school.  Day school starts exams on Friday.

I got a call!  I am going to be interviewed to be a night school Vice-Principal!  Interview is a week Wed.  Naturally I am scheduled for an exam at that exact time, but I can trade with someone else.  I should find out Friday about the job interview I had for next Sept. (we start early!) but I am not expecting to get it.  AND, I am waiting to hear (Feb 1) if I will be considered for VP for next year (round 1 of the process.  There are 2 HUGE steps <it seems> to this goal.  So, many goals or many balls juggling in the air right now.

We submitted the immigration package!  Yay!  It only took us since the end of Sept to collect all of the information.  I eventually settled on sending a binder (a 1 inch binder was jammed with information) as it seemed logical.  Loose information is too easy to lose.

The weather is slightly warmer.  We got snow today…or should I say SNOW!  It started when I was walking Bree around 7:30am and continued until I was en route home from work!

Hubby is under the weather though.  Of course he is in CT and I am up here in Toronto which does not make him feel any better - nor me!  I did approve the proof of the wedding invitation today though.

Other than that, I have no news.  I am busy, and boring!

Hope all is well in your 3FC worlds!

Another one bites the dust!

Down one more pound to 195.5!! Yes, this is a low I have not seen in about a year!  Granted far from my overly ambitious goal of 2.5 pounds a week, I have lost one pound and the weigh in is officially tomorrow.

As for today, the Weekenders party went well.  I ended up with two pieces - one end of season sample (draped tank top basically in “blossom” <pink>) which ended up costing me $27.00 and a black halter dress (which can be worn 8 different ways and I HOPE will look ok on me as she only had a small one. ) I was thinking I could take that when I travel on my honeymoon as it is dressy enough to wear out but easy enough to pack.  With my hostess credits the dress cost me $14.46 instead of $70.  So, I can afford to make a buying faux pas at that price, right?

Ann,  please explain breathing through alternate nostrils to me.  Is it one nostril and then the other one or alternating between mouth and nose breathing. (I never realized how complicated breathing can be!)

It is very cold here..and I mean VERY cold here.  OK, I am sure it is not as cold as the Praires, but still.

Let’s see what other news do I have???  I did get one interview for an assistant head next year.  (I am presently Head of Spec Ed but want to move to another area so am expecting I need a demotion for that.  This job is assistant head of the Arts - sounds like more fun, doesn’t it?).  Anyway, I think the interview went well, but I am a drama teacher and they are a music focussed school.  Also, to hire me means losing their beloved drama teacher as I would bump him out of his position.  Soooo, I am guessing the dude in the 3 piece suit who was interviewed before me (and I am guessing is a music person as drama and visual arts people do not wear three piece suits!) will get the job.  Still, that was a posting from round 1 and there are 5 rounds of postings - so 4 more to come.  There is time…  I really just wanted a feel for the types of questions I can expect.

Oh, and the dog is doing well!  (You can see him- and me- under our health category).  His more recent tests still place him at borderline thyroid problems but the results from the Cushings test improved.  I am hoping it is the supplements I am giving him.  The vet said I could put him on thyroid meds but I opted to wait until his annual physical in May.   Supplements usually take a few months to kick in.

OK, that is all the news fit to print!

Cheers all!

Hovering

After over a week my moderate to low grade migraine has FINALLY LEFT MY BODY!! I am sure the rains last night had some impact.  It was very very uncomfortable (no doubt for my students too!!) and chocolate is one of my releases for it (I know many people get migraines from chocolate, but chocolate is my friend!!!).  So, I am hovering around 196.5 - 197.5.  Far too incapacitated to work out. AND yes, I still have essays to mark!  Thank goodness my night school class is doing presentations so I just sit back, listen and mark.

But today I seem to be headache free so I am getting back on the wagon!

Why I need chocolate!

One thing I  have noticed is that I am now stopping and thinking about what I eat and why.  I have noticed that I do need chocolate - it is not just a love of chocolate thing!  When I get stressed I do not go for wine, or even chocolate martinis!  I crave chocolate.  AND once I get it, I do calm down.  Not even the caffeine can rile me!  I also need chocolate to reduce my migraines (medicinal chocolate??) but that is another story.

As for the diette, I only lost 1 pound, not 2.5 this week.  On the other hand, it is one pound I would still have had I not made the effort.  This week, I will once again aim for 2.5 pounds.  Will I lose them?  We will see.  Inch by inch.  Little by little.  Making an effort and not succeeding still puts me in a better situation than not trying at all.

Oh, and now that I know why I need chocolate, I think I can also recognize when I do not need chocolate.  Yet another HUGE accomplishment for me.

Yoga, I am slowly getting through the papers.  About 7 more to go.  How is the thesis going??

Cheers!

Same Old Same Old

Well, I seem to have maintained that one pound loss (read, I am plateauing, kinda!).  What can I say?  I am eating well BUT those wedding shows and their free cake samples…

Yesterday I walked over and got my hair trimmed (30 minutes roughly in walking) and did a little bit of ab weights at night.  I ordered my wedding invitations and stopped at the nearby wedding show.

There I met a dress maker I was quite impressed with.  (Did I mention that the dress we all love - albeit hard to find- costs roughly $3K?!!!  My what good taste we all have!).  This dressmaker had a really nice dress which she can make to my specifications so it will be a variation of that dress.  Oh, I forgot to mention that even if I found that wonderful dress we all love - samples are only in a size 10 and maybe size 12.  I have a problem holding a dress against me, guessing what it will look like and spending $3K for it.  The dressmaker can make my dress just below knee length (which is what I actually wanted - it is a morning wedding after all), and she can make the top lacey (like the top of that dress - although apparently that is a laser cut material not lace on it) and a plain silk skirt AND she can make them separate pieces so I can wear them again together or individually.  Also, she will make me a belaro jacket to wear for the ceremony and apparently  with that lace it melds together so well no one will know it is a separate jacket until I remove it.  Sounds good?  I don’t have to decide until March (so I ahve a bit of time to lose some tummy) and she can bring it in for about $1600.  I still think that is a lot of money for a dress, but if I can wear it again it makes it easier to stomach.

OK, that was a LONG paragraph for a blog.  Congratulations if you read it all!  This morning I am going to the gym.  I can read/mark some essays on the recumbent bike.  A woman who did not make my shower last weekend is taking me out for lunch (Greek restaurant so I can order salad!) today.  This afternoon Mom wants to go to that weddingshow to see if the dressmaker can make her something.  I planned to go back to take a photo of the dress I like (it is a longer version than I want and I can change it from that top to a halter one).

I still have not ruled out the designer Goodwill in my neighbourhood.  Yes, I said “Designer Goodwill”.  I live on the outskirts of one of the wealthy parts of Toronto and when the rich women get tired of their designer stuff, they dump it into good will.  I have seen every designer there.  So, why pay $1400 when you can pay $14.99?? I once got a leather blazer for $15 and when I got home I saw that the original tag plastic togs were still on it!

Have a good one.

Dresses

Well we did look at dresses yesterday.  It was packed there…millions of people and dresses.  I saw two (of about 6- 8 I tried on) I could live with, but I could also live without them.  So I did not buy anything.  Just like when I was normal weight, strapless does not suit me.  My shoulders are way too big (naturally) and halters are the better neckline for me.  The overall experience was not as horrific as I imagined and I did not look as HUGE as I imagined I would.  So that was a positive thing.

I decided that if I bought one now that I sorta liked I would not be as encouraged to lose the weight.  And really, even halters do not look great with a large back!  Apparently if I go with an actual bridal dress, I need to chose it be the middle of next month at the latest.  If I go with a white bridesmaid dress, I can wait until March break.  Things to consider.

Meanwhile, maintained the loss today!

Oh and I had an excellent evaluation yesterday!

Cheers!

Looks promising…

I am very excited to be down 1 lb!  196.5!  Ok, not great in the BIG scheme of things, but I broke 197.5!!  I still have 1.5 to go by Monday to meet this week’s goal.  Can I do it??????

Tonight I am taking Mom to a bridal sale held by one of THE places to get your dress from in Toronto.  Yes, we are more concerned with her outfit than mine!!  As it is not a fancy wedding, I think I have some time whereas Mom is not the most mobile person so she needs to get started earlier.  Of course my wedding is bass ackwards!

As the sale is across town I will likely lose out on tonight’s workout.  Not thrilled about that, but  I do have Fri, Sat and Sunday, right?  And I can always mark those essays on the recumbent bike!

Cheers!
