Thighs are rubbing me the wrong way

blondemommy34 on May 20th 2008 08:41 pm

I have no desire to run.  It hurts. Not my muscles. Not my feet.  Not my breathing.  I breathe great.  No huffing. No puffing.  The puffing is coming from my thighs.  I think when I am done running I could start a fire with the heat coming from my inner thighs.  I didn’t notice it while it was cold out because I would wear long sweats.  But these past two weeks I have been wearing shorts.  All types of shorts.  Trying to find a pair that don’t rise up.  A pair that doesn’t bunch.  A pair that stay down and stay even.  And no spandex.  If I wear spandex I feel like a link sausage. Let me clarify that I have spandex and will wear it it comes to it, but I don’t like it.  I even have skirts with shorts under them.  They are like tennis skirts.  Real cute.  But the shorts don’t stay down.

So I end up running down the path pulling on my shorts.  Why don’t I see other people running this way?  Do they wait like I do and wait until no one is watching and pull them down so they can take 50 more steps with no friction?  And pray that no one is up ahead so they can pull them down again.

So my inner thighs burn.   I am working on figuring out a way to get them to stop and still keep on running.

Meal wise Monday I did great.  Stayed with what I wanted to eat and only had a bite of the dessert that was served at bible study.  Came home an had no ice cream I had a popsicle.

Today I had cereal for breakfast. Carrots and a chewy bar for snack.  No lunch.  And dinner is cooking.  I am hungry but will keep my portions small.  Popsicle for a snack.

I am planning on doing a weight work out later.  Sit-ups, arm work and I will do some inner thigh work.

Plans for tomorrow are cereal, good lunch, and a good dinner.  Don’t know what yet, but I will keep the portions small.  I know this is weird, but I feel better already and it has only been two days.

I know you said you tried spandex but that is really what prevents this…if your legs feel tight in them just get a size up from what you are and make sure you dont dry..let them air dry.

    Hi there!

I second the above comment, I’ve tried working out (weights, elliptical, running) with shorts and it just doesnt work. Spandex is definitely the way to go. if you’re in the market for a great pair, nike has some awesome ones.

    good luck!

I know the whole shorts thing. It sucks, doesn’t it? I take five or ten normal steps, the shorts ride up, and then I take an extra long step to get them back in place again. Makes me look spastic.

I have a nice pair of pants, and I guess they’re spandex. Come down to below my knees. My thighs just glide past each other. Much better. Maybe not for anyone watching my hugs arse encased in spandex wobbling about the place, but, heh, that’s their problem.

You might try spandex shorts with regular shorts over. That way you won’t feel like everyone can see every curve and dimple in your legs but you can also avoid the rubbing. Also, you could try some baby powder on your inner thighs before running.

I’m so glad you asked this question cause I’ve been on the verge of being arrested several times for staring too closely at runners in shorts trying to figure out their secret…the shorts I have do the riding up the inner thigh thing & it makes me nuts…the ones I see people wearing don’t do that.

So I guess spandex it is, but I’m going to see what happens when I do a combo of spandex with another short over them.

Let us know when you find something that works!

    :)

I am guessing you have tried the cotton/poly/spandex ones? Mine are like 10% spandex. Of course, my tortoise pace doesn’t exactly generate a lot of heat!

I have some cotton capris that I love running in. They are like yoga pant capris with a draw string waist. I tried it in regular yoga pants with an elastic waist and they kept falling down. I don’t even want to THINK about shorts until I’ve lost at least five more pounds.

I use jersey shorts when I run or walk. There is NO way you’d see me in short running shorts…even if I was thin.

    What about Body Glide? http://www.gotbody.com

I haven’t used it myself, but my mom has used it before and says it’s wonderful. Not sure if it would help, but I would think that it would help the fabric from riding up since there would be some lubricant there.

to get your inner thighs to stop burning, try applying vaseline to the area before your run. Also, if you are running in spandex, you may have an allergy to spandex (also called lycra) that is causing the burning. That burning should not be happening. Do you have any other skin rash or sensitivity issues? I stay away from lycra as much as possible, go for flat seams in the inseam. Prana makes some shorts out of all nylon that are stretchy, if you want stretchy. I agree with the person who suggested going up a size. I wish you the best in your efforts!

THANKS!! Spandex has actually helped. It was skin against skin before and that was why it was burning. I am hoping by next short wearing season that it won’t be an issue.
