The day of the donuts…
was pretty easy to survive as it turns out. I went downstairs yesterday morning to be greeted by a giant bowl of donuts (he decided to just cook the rest of the dough). UGH! “That’s not good for us,” I said. He’d been thinking the same thing. So out came the gallon zip-lock bags. He froze them ALL to use in his Paula Dean donut & fruit cocktail & sugar glaze bread pudding that his best friend loves & that I think we once calculated at about 2400 calories a serving. That’s a hell of a lot easier to say “no!” to than a bowl full of smallish donuts spread out over a whole day.
So…temptation averted.
Damp & cold is getting old, chicks! Yesterday’s sun was nice, but only fleeting. Woke this morning to another cold/damp morning & an aching hip, but knew the hip would be better during my run (even if it feels like crap afterwards).
So I did my two 1/4 mile runs & mini-runs for the first mile. That’s about when I started regretting wearing the sweatshirt, but I didn’t want to stop to tie it around my waist cause I knew that’d be an annoyance the whole run. That was a good move as the minute I turned around for the run back to the car, the storm clouds rolled in & it got cold & breezy. Where the hell is summer? No wait, lilacs just bloomed up here, maybe all I need is spring. Just a little sun!
Anywho, at one mile I turned on the C25K podcast, figuring I’d give the hip a break & turn around at my old 5K turnaround spot rather than going out 2 miles & back. But I was feeling good at that point, so I kept going, & kept going past the 2-mile point to about another 1/2 mile.
I ended up starting the podcast over after the first round (and before the cooldown) & doing another 4 runs before I slowed down to a walk for the last mile or so. Then I was in a pickle cause I arrived at the car still needing 15 minutes to get me to an even 90-minute workout. So I walked around the park & then headed to the car for 5 minutes of stretching (which was remarkably painful & difficult to do).
I need to work some stretches into my day, I think.
Food:
Breakfast: hb egg (I just don’t like a heavy stomac before a run)
Lunch: PB & J on whole wheat. An indulgence, but also a lunch I started fantasizing about on the run. :0
Dinner: will probably be a curry tofu & veggies over rice or noodles. Like Eryn, I couldn’t bring myself to cook, so dinner was Perkins grilled chicken over salad. Yum!
Exercise: 90-minute walk/run & a second 30-min walk in the evening.

WTG on the running! WOO!
Mmm. PB&J. When I hear pbj, my brain automatically thinks “and chocolate milk!”. Comfort food, you know. When I think of that, I think of my lunch boxes in elementary school. One of them was Mork and Mindy. Wow. This is getting rather random.
Mmmmmmm…lilacs. Love ‘em. Fantastic and inspiring to read about your runs.
And I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the comments you leave on my blog.
excellent workout!!!
PB&J is one of my favorite indulgences.
WTG on the running and bagging up the donuts. You are making all the right choices. Hopefully the warm weather and sunshine will head your way soon.
Whenever I hear Paula Dean, I cringe. LOL. Once while at the gym on the elliptical, her show was on. She made some of lasagna but then made it into a sandwich. The thing was HUMONGOUS. I couldn’t believe it. I like watching her though b/c I’m always amazed at how bad her ingredients are. Kinda like Barefoot Contessa with her pounds and pounds of butter.
Good job on getting your in
Agreed, where the hell is summer? This is ridiculous.
