Short run yesterday, but a good day anyway
I got up early enough for a nice run, but somehow didn’t get to the gym on time to make it happen. So with another day house hunting with the realtor looming, I did 2 miles: .15 walking, 1.75 running, and .10 walking. Was actually a difficult run: I didn’t hit that “right, I can do this” point until around minute 18, so it came down to a battle of wills, my will to run against my will to stop running. Luckily the running will has gotten stronger these last few months, so she won that battle.
Then out with the realtor to look at houses. He had to schedule a few for the afternoon, so we looked at some in the morning, then I went to my meeting & we met again in the afternoon to look at — & I don’t want to jinx this, so I’ll just call it — a beautiful house that would suit us very well. Hubby’s on his way down this afternoon to look at it on Thursday. Fingers & toes crossed things work out with this house.
Food today
Breakfast: bran flakes & blueberries
Lunch: 1 cup chix/turkey meatball soup with kale & potatoes (that’s right, I made another batch…the meatballs are kinda fun).
Snack: 2 bread/butter pickles, 5 pretzels, & 6 cherries (now that’s better, but thanks ya’ll for all the awesome snack ideas: they’re going on my shopping list for hubby’s house at the end of the week)
Food yesterday
Breakfast: bran flakes & blueberries
Lunch: last of the leftover pasta dish
Snack: 20 multigrain chips with 3 tbs hummus, 3 WW chocolates (gotta stop eating these!)
Dinner: Small salad, 2 poached eggs, 1 cup summer squash with lite butter (more than a regular serving of veggie, but since it was the only one I really wanted, I doubled up on it)
Snack: fat/sugar free pudding with lite cool whip
Exercise: 2 mile run/walk, 2 miles walked with dog
I gotta start cutting down on those snacks or find ones that aren’t so packed with calories! What things do ya’ll snack on?

Snack suggestions: Take Alpine Lace or other lo fat cheese (shreds or slice) on a piece of parchment paper and microwave till crispy; dip in Newman’s Salsa. Wasa crispbreads: these come in a variety of types, I get multigrain; they have fiber and whole grain are about 2″ x 5″ (huge) multigrain is only 45 cals., with a cup of tea 1/2 is enough of a snack for me. Fruit, container of yogurt, nuts, esp walnuts or almonds. Low fat string cheese. Small containers of Italian Ice. Peach yogurt is a great paired with a handful of walnuts. FF ricotta, mix with a little dry sugar free pudding mix and water.
Been there, done that on all these. Hope this gives you some to try. On the cheese shreds—some of the mixes (5 cheese or whatever) are really tasty as nuked crackers for dipping.
I try as hard as I can to stay away from snacks. They can be my downfall. Lately though, I’ve been snacking on fruit. An apple or banana in the afternoon takes the edge off until dinner. Pears do as well.. probably because of the fiber.
Hummus and pita bread are a favorite of mine. The Athenos hummus from the grocery store is actually pretty good. Or I make my own much healthier (no oil) hummus.
I second Eryn on this one - I can’t do the snacks. I think it is great for your metabolism to eat more often, but I am not at the point in my journey where I feel like I safely snack very much at all. When I do sit down with fitday and realize that I need more calories, I do a couple of tablespoons of sunflower seeds (for the monounsaturated fats) or more of my beloved fat free cottage cheese. I think after I reach a decent weight, I will probably be so sick of cottage cheese that I will NEVER eat it again in my life!!
Your calorie count seems like it would be fine. Yesterday’s dinner of mainly veggies? omg. I would starve.
Oops! Submitted that before saying
I’ve got my fingers crossed for you re: the house. I hope it works out! As far as snacking goes, I like yogurt. Yoplait Light as about 100 calories and zero fat. I also like reduced fat Cheez its. Other than that, I am right there with you with too much snacking.
I wonder how your house-hunting is going. It’s such a hard decision to make and I think one we make so often with our emotions because you want this to be home. I like going on holidays, but the best part is coming home and having a shower and hpping into my own bed. I do love that (and so do my cats! All piled on).
As for snacks, one of my favourites is the milk coffee/hot chocolate. Just a spoonful of instant coffee or chocolate powder in a cup of milk and microwave it. You get a bit of a caffeine hit and some calcium too, and there’s something about milk that’s nicely filling. I forgot it’s hot weather where you are, so a good alternative can be a smoothie. I love a frozen banana and cup of milk in a blender. It really froths up amazingly well and those bubbles fill you up too.
Hi there, you! LOL right now I couldn’t out run a worm! Maybe I’m getting too old for this work shi… stuff.
I just put one of my fav. snack/lunches at getupnow’s place. I also like an apple with a small pce. of cheddar, cept I gotta watch the cheese cause I can go a little crazy with it!
Here’s hoping you two have finally found the right nest!
Try and run a little for me would ya…I sure as happy hello can’t right now. Darned wimpy legs grrrr. Catch ya later, bye!
Me again! I like to pile up my homemade salsa on a rice cake or two, too! Or three… ha ha ha!
I go for fruit or a Clif bar (or half a Clif bar) when I need a snack. But really, I try and stay away from them. I’m not a 6-meals-a-day person, that’s like doubling the number of times I have to put my head in the lions mouth! I try to do 3 good meals a day, and so far I’m not having a problem with my metabolism.
Good luck with the house!
Come out, come out, wherever you are? I hope your long quiet spell is because you are so busy running marathons and buying beautiful houses to live in.
