Bombed the Interview, Stayed Off the Diet, and No Wifi at Home

This was a weird week, huh? So my interview did NOT go well. :( They used a rather intimidating interview style with 6 people on one side of the room and me on the other and while I wasn’t really intimidated by that, I blanked out on the management question in a really obvious way and when I asked when they expected to make a decision, they responded that they were probably going to go through another set of interviews. Also, they didn’t laugh at ANY of my jokes. I know :kicks self: jokes at an interview=bad in some cases.

I would probably have hated working with them anyways with their whole lack of a sense of humor thing :sniffs: Also it rained the whole time and I paid a lot for the rental car and so I just drove everywhere even when I thought I should walk. I also did some good retail therapy (bought the most expensive concealer I’ve ever tried Maquicomplet from Estee Lauder and while it was okay, I don’t know if I almost $30 like it. You know? Bad self for being off my diet too, I could have stayed on it, but didn’t. And I didn’t go up and see my uncle in Alexandria (3.5 hours away, but still closer that the 30 it is now) and I spent $600 on the flight, hotel, and rental car for this 4 day waste of time (not really a waste, more interview and life experience is always good) and no job to show for it. It has revitalized my job searching thing. I have another interview down in San Antonio a week from tomorrow, so hopefully that will be better, but that job is a 4 months long one while they search for a permanent applicant since their last one fell through.

So what else did I learn in Norfolk other than I really need to work on my interview technique?

  • I’m really high maintenance. Seriously, the little baggie of stuff I brought was either not selected well or the lights in the hotel room are horrid. My skin felt so dry and rough which is ironic because they had  record rainfall while I was there. :shakes head: I was ridiculously happy to get home and use some good products and today my skin looks and feels much better. I bought this Palladio foundation for $7.50 from Sallys while there and I think I’m going to try to exchange it. It’s a really sheer liquid, almost like a tm and the color of light beige is really ornage.  Thankfully its sheerness means I can still wear it, but I’m going to try to replace it with another one. The only thing is that the only other color that will work with me looks a bit light, but I’d rather be white faced than orange. Maybe they’ll let me replace it with another product with the same price, like the Vita-C SPF 15 Face Lotion. I really like the Beyond Belief Brand and the Vita C serum travel size I have is a lovely and light serum. It really sinks in and while not horribly moisturizing, it does help skin look better and i simply layer it with a heavier cream in my drier areas.  I also finally bought some retin-a from overseas. It works out to $9 a tube with shipping, but I really miss clear skin and while using retin-a micro, my skin was very clear if a bit dry.  So they didn’t have the micro and I bought the .05 and .1 versions to see which my skin will tolerate better.
  • I really miss my family when away from them. Seriously I would wonder what others would say. This has made me rethink the apply everywhere philosophy. I think I will focus on Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana. Hmmm, not too focused huh?
  • The whole no wifi thing is throwing me for a loop, but I think its for the best. the Internet was expensive and a great excuse for everyone to avoid each other and work on our computers to the exclusion of all else. Also, when you have a lot of time to do something, you get distracted. Or at least I do. I think having to go out to a wifi place will motivate me to stay on task while there and not waste as much time. I’ll also limit myself to specific hours because I have to.
    • Dairy Queen is awesome. I am connected here right now and I have a much better signal then I got at home. And its free. I think all the Dairy Queen locations have wifi now. I stopped at one before the Wichita Falls interview last week and they also had wifi. Kudos to the Awesome Dairy Queen, although I guess it isn’t a good idea for my waistline. You know, sitting here in the DQ, I do feel so much more connected to the world as opposed to doing this from home. I guess I see why people go to coffee shops to do this.
    • All Dally Public Library and DCCCD locations have free public wifi. So I can go to Lancaster, Mesquite, and Richardson DCCCD campuses and connect and plug the computer in. For a closer wifi, there’s a DPL branch within 5 minutes of the house. I’m not sure if they have any publiic outlets, so I will be limited in how much time I can have there. I think my laptop only gets 2.5 hours, but that’s probably as long as I should spend there any way.
    • The parents say there is free wifi at Wings over Seagoville and that’s close to home, but again, I’m not sure of the outlet situation.  Also, G-ma says we can go to her house and connect, but I seriously love my laptop (best purchase ever, even now 2 years later and with my Dell warrenty about to expire) and do not like connecting from other people’s computers. :shrugs:

So my Dad leaves on Tuesday for a temporary assignment in D.C. I know, I leave the area 3 days before my Dad flies there. lol.

BTW, for anyone flying. With the new checkon charges, everyone is taking the maximum carry ons. Get to the front of the line. I used to not care about it and stayed off the place as long as possible because frankly, it didn’t matter so long as you get on before they close the doors and who wants to sit in a cramped seat any longer than possible. Now though :shakes head: they don’t charge to check your carry on if they lack space, but one of the benefits of carry on travel is not waiting in the baggage area. I barely avoided having to check my luggage on a couple legs of my flights and at least on the first one, for the guy whose luggage was checked, they upgraded him.

So this is what’s happening with me. Back to the recommit.
