Newest Focus

So I haven’t updated for awhile because I am lazy and have been a bit busy. So me and Korea didn’t mix as well as expected and I returned to the states. I’ve been back for 2 weeks now and while I’m enjoying seeing my family and eating good food, I do miss some aspects of Korea. Namely, the Tanchon. I think I’ve gained back the 10 pounds I’d lost in Korea. Bummer.

Anyway, so my new inspiration, weighing myself at the Johnson Space Center and realizing how much I weigh… So HPB had a 20% off all books sale and I picked up Your First Triathlon. The only thing is that I’ve looked up triathlons and they are expensive $50-$75.  I’m planning on doing the Benbrook Women’s Triathlon on October 5, 2008. That’s my birthday and gives me more than 5 months to prepare. The book takes 3 months to prepare, so I have a bit more time. It’s a sprint triathlon, 300 yard swim, 13.9 mile bike ride, and 3.1 mile run.  I’m going to start the plan tomorrow, since that’s Monday, with a strength/flexibility workout.  Then on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, I will run.  Tuesday and Friday are swimming and biking is Saturday and Wednesday.

I’m going to focus more on the running for now since I have an intermediate goal of running a 5k next month. I know its a bit soon, but for me, it’ll be a run walk. I’m mostly interested because it supports a reading group. It’s the Mid-Year Muse and Motion 5k Run/Walk and its only $10 and the proceeds go to HOPE (Helping our pupils Excel). You are supposed to bring books to donate as well and I think that’s awesome (being a librarian and all). I really lilke the running program from the book more than the Cool Runnings Counch to 5K one because that one call for a greater proportion of running to walking and I cal probably not finish. I think I can finish the YFT running program. It calls for 15 seconds of running to 45 seconds of walking. The Ct5k calls for much more, 1 mintute of running to 1:30 minute of walking.  So for the YFt, its really a 5 minute warmup and cool down and 10 minutes of running and walking intervals. That’s 5 cycles.  So 20 minute sessions are the beginning. Every running versus walking interval increases each week or so. This plan seems conceivable for me, so wish me luck. I don’t aim to complete the 5k in June, but I would like to try it and complete it and get a number I can only improve upon. :)

I’m not sure where I’m going to do the swimming thing, but I may substitute kickboxing for it or pilates until I can find a good convenient swimming option that doesn’t involve an expensive gym membership.

:)

Oh yes. I need to get to sleep earlier and
