Feeling Happy

Last year I was about 45 pounds overweight.  My BMI was too high and I was in the ‘obese’ range for my height. Although my health in my 40 + years has always been really good, I was starting to worry about everything that could go wrong, and about how I did not want to end up taking pills to correct things which I know I can control with a healthier lifestyle. I was also not liking the comments from family members about how I was starting to look a lot like my granny – granny was always, how shall I say, rather plump ! (R.I.P. Granny – Love You)

I haven’t really been on the diet roller coaster, mainly because I’m a picky eater and the word ‘diet’ to me meant having to eat certain foods which I know I just won’t eat. I’m not a huge fan of veggies, never have been, never will be. Don’t get me wrong, there are some veggies that I do eat, but my selection is rather small.  I did however try over the years to control my eating, tried having less carbs (are you kidding me – crabby pants without carbs!) tried drinking the eight glasses of water a day to fill up the gap, tried having a piece of fruit when I wanted something sweet (I had the apple and then the chocolate anyway!). Needless to say, I tried, and I still gained!

Then in September I decided to sign up and join a local weight loss club (don’t know if I’m supposed to name them on here, but it starts with a W !)  I liked it immediately and the weight started coming off easily. It suited my lifestyle and my eating preferences. I also got back into a regular workout routine and even started to enjoy exercise – that’s a biggie for me – I’m usually allergic to working out! There have been some glitches along the way, but nothing that could not be solved 😉 !  I have lost 19 lbs so far, and am feeling good!

I have a family wedding/reunion to go to in the UK at the end of July and I’m looking forward to wearing something more form fitting instead of a frumpy, calf length dress which would be my usual outfit. Will be wearing some skinnier jeans by then too ! I also hope the comments about granny are long gone. I’m not expecting much though, my family don’t seem to know how to compliment one another, but that’s a whole other blog !
