A few thoughts on being sick… November 4, 2009

So including the vertigo I had, I’ve been sick, more or less, for about 2 1/2 weeks now. I was talking to Dave last night about it, and I think I know why it took me so long to go to the dr. Though most days I’ve been too sick to exercise (either because of fatigue or the cough), I have spent very little time feeling so sick that I have to stay in bed. I’ve been able to run errands, take Josh to classes/school, enjoy Halloween, etc. I think it’s because I’m healthier — 45 pounds lighter, regular exercise, (relatively) healthy eating. Usually being sick makes me fall off the exercise wagon, but I’m ITCHING to get moving again. I think I know why Dave has a good immune system — he’s been a healthy weight and regular exerciser his entire life. Call me crazy, but I can’t wait to get back to boot camp Monday!

 

Bronchitis… November 3, 2009

So I found out from the dr. (actually he is a NP) that I do indeed have bronchitis (which I guessed) and “possibly the beginning of a sinus infection” which I also guessed. Ugh, at least it’s an answer. Hopefully a few more days of taking it easy (relatively) and then I can start to get back to life.

1/2 of Panda Express 3 item combo:

steamed veggies
orange chicken
green bean chicken
black pepper chicken
(I think there was almost 1 c of veggies in what I ate, believe it or not)

Woke up in the middle of the night coughing…can’t seem to beat this thing. Ugh. Boot camp tonight still up in the air for me. I am determined to complete the veggie challenge though, that starts today.

1slice whole wheat protein toast w/ whipped butter

1 TJ chicken-apple sausage (nitrate-free)

1 whole wheat tortilla w/ 1 jalapeno sausage

Made a stirfry for myself, since Dave got last minute free tix to the Kings. He’s indifferent about shrimp and won’t eat mushrooms so this was a treat for me.
1 TB olive oil
10 medium shrimp
2 c sliced mushrooms
1 c spinach

slightly more than 1 TB peanut sauce (jarred) + splash soy sauce
1/2 c brown & wild rice
So here’s my question — this is 3 c of veggies raw, and it cooks down to under 2 cups. Do I use the raw or cooked measurement? I’ll use the raw until I hear…
Should not have eaten the whole thing…it was too much.

leftover pie crust (my mom makes her own, it is so good — she bakes the excess for my sister and I, it’s one of my weaknesses — approx. 4″ square)

I’m feeling much better today. I still have coughing fits but I have a lot more energy. Too bad just walking around the block makes me cough and get out of breath. And it sucks that laughing makes me cough for 10 minutes straight.

I am so frustrated because I feel almost normal — my body is really stiff and itching to exercise. However, if I talk a lot or move around a lot, I start to cough, which makes my head and throat hurt, and I get out of breath easily. I am drinking tons of water, and trying to talk and move as little as I can manage, while still being Josh’s mommy (which is challenging).

I had some really old white tortillas in the freezer, and decided to use them to make “crackers,” as I had seen in a magazine recently (the mag actually said to use wonton wrappers). I used the “fall” cookie cutters I have the shape them, then topped them with cooking spray and a variety of spices, etc.: sesame seeds and a dab of sesame oil; cinnamon, nutmeg and a dab of sugar; curry powder with a dab of cayenne pepper; parsley flakes with black pepper; and onion powder and garlic powder.  I baked them for about 10 min. at 375*.  The sesame ones were the best. I cut up the tortilla scraps and baked them with some salt (I’m going to use them to top a mexican salad later in the week). I hope to use whole wheat tortillas next time.

I had about 12 of these crackers throughout the afternoon.

I also  made some homemade applesauce, which I’ve never done before. I was on the computer and forgot about so I burned a lot of the apples. It ended up making about 1/2 c of edible applesauce — it was okay.

2 thin slices roast beef
sauteed spinach, onion, red pepper, garlic in olive oil

1/2 c TJ French Vanilla Ice Cream with chopped pecans (~1 TB)

I did a little stretching, and consumed about 2-3 cough drops.

My throat is so sore from coughing all day — there’s no way I’m going to try to exercise and make it even worse. Tomorrow is a new day, and boot camp too. I think I need to have fruit or veggies for a snack tonight…

But I came to a horrible realization today — my cough drops are 15 calories each. Ugh.

BOOT CAMP kicked my butt. Only 2 weeks and I can’t use 8s for arms anymore? WTF?

The day also included:
-well over 100 oz of water
-at least 12 cough drops
