Apparently, I’m one of the crazies

Posted by: Fat Pants In: General

The crazies being the runners who go running at 6 a.m. in very chilly 45 degree weather. Yeah, that was me this morning!

But not by choice.

I got to work just before 6 this morning… but I was locked out! We have access control entry (swiping cards to unlock doors) and it knows whether or not you’re in the building or outside of the building.  Yesterday I forgot to swipe out when I left, so the system thought I was still inside! And it wouldn’t let me in!

So what did I do? I went running! No one would be at work for at least another 45 minutes so I thought, well, I have my stuff with me, I might as well go. So I changed in the car and ran for 35 minutes. It was COLD! Lots of runners out already, though…it just amazes me the drive that people have to exercise early in the morning. I wish I could be that person. But working from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., well… I’m barely awake when I leave the house at 5:30 lol. It does feel good to get my exercise out of the way for the day, though.

Dh and I got out to the park yesterday for the 5k route. We both did terrible! Allergies and dehydration made my legs feel like they had weights strapped to them. I was walking in parts I’ve never walked before! Tough run..but it felt good to get out there, either way. We had teriyaki chicken skewers from Sunflower and roasted fingerling potatoes for dinner. I also picked up these 30 calorie 8g carb sugar free fruit bars from Dreyers. I had the black cherry one last night. It was decent and not really fake-sugary tasting. We didn’t eat dinner until 6 or so, then DH worked on the car a little bit while I just relaxed. :) It was the first and only night this week that we didn’t have any plans, so it was fun just to take it easy. So tonight we have friends coming over - we’re grilling pollo asada from Sunflower (they really do have the best fresh meats!), black beans and fruit tart for dessert. I need to stay away from the alcohol.

WHICH brings me to a point. The people coming over tonight know I am on a diet and they have even attempted or adopted a healthy lifestyle and claim it’s because I inspire them. But the guy is talking all about bringing over Amaretto for me (I don’t drink beer) for mixed drinks and every time we see them, it’s a smorgasbord of food that they want to have or bring over. He requested the INFAMOUS EVIL MELTED BRIE IN PUFF PASTRY appetizer! Gah! To which my DH obliged because it’s SO DARN TOOIN’ TASTY! Anyway, I guess I know I make mistakes in my eating, but I have a hard time with people saying they want to be healthy but then want all unhealthy stuff or want to go to unhealthy restaurants. I have trouble making good choices every day with food so it’s easier just not to be tempted with it. I mean I have been dieting for how long? And just this week was the first time I’ve been able to limit myself to 2 slices of pizza and not half the pie? I am just not sure I have the willpower yet to say “no” when everyone else is indulging. So I am a little stressed about this!

This weekend is already going to be challenging given that we are going to Steamboat and a good portion of our eating this weekend will be dining out. I think I will pack salads for a healthy lunch tomorrow since we will probably get to Steamboat around 11. We’ll eat out for dinner, have breakfast at the hotel tomorrow morning, and probably eat out for dinner on Sunday since it’s Father’s Day. Speaking of Steamboat, I finally decided on a trail - Upper Fish Creek Falls. It is 5 miles round trip with some amazing waterfalls, and the weather should be perfect on Sunday - 73 degrees with 0% chance of rain. It’s going to be a long, but good weekend… if I can keep my eating under control.

wow, that trail looks beautiful! I have another net friend who lives in co. springs and went to steamboat a few weeks ago for a 5k…and she said it was “lush” there. Looks that way! You should have fun!

The thing about eating and entertaining, is that those temptations will be there ALWAYS and forever. You hate to avoid those situations, because you fear you can’t control yourself. I guess, we just need to learn we are not like other ppl or not willing to indulge like other ppl and set our game plan in our heads. If you tell yourself ahead of time, I will only have ONE TBS of pastry brie, and then stick to it, you will come out fine! After you eat it, if you want more, tell yourself you are done, and you could have had NONE, but you had some…and that is enough. I think when we feel like we are not capable of control, and fear those situations, is when we fall back into old habits….because we have let ourselves lose control. Only YOU can control YOU. It doesn’t matter what everyone else does. It’s hard though….HUGS!

Hooray for getting your run in so early! See, now that is using your spare time effectively….giant pat on the back for you!!!!!!

Is there anything you don’t like on brie.. I don’t know… like olives or something.. you could put that on it instead of the raspberries. Might help you avoid it.

As for the friends that say they are eating healthy but don’t. Well the sad reality is that when a lot of people diet, they don’t take it as serious as what we have done. You can’t be upset with them for it, so many of us have fallen into that trap. If you saw me last night you wouldn’t think I was eating healthy, but some temptations and events require us to be more flexible.

Oh and now I am in awe of you. The running is already amazing.. but a 6am run makes you one of them. You know.. those runner people, not just a wannabe. I would of been napping in my car until someone showed up. Actually I would be in my bed at home because there would be NO WAY I would ever agree to work at 6am. Must be sweet to be done work at 2:30pm.

Huma -Oh believe me I was the epitome of hypocrisy when I ran on Monday after work, and then stopped by to get a pizza on the way home! LOL I was sure people must be thinking, in workout clothes and getting a pizza? NICE! I think it is just hard, or I get stressed, to try and NOT emphasize food and then have other people emphasize food. But who am I kidding? I love food. I don’t know if I will ever be able to view it as just “fuel,” ya know? It’s so much more to me than that. And I can’t get mad at them… that IS me so many times, especially when it comes to eating out. You’re right! Oh and I did contemplate sleeping my car LOL!

Renee - that’s a very good suggestion for controlling myself around the brie! I also bought some apples so at least if I do decide to eat it, I won’t be stuck with crackers and bread to dip in the brie. I’m banking on the other three people loving it so much that I’ll barely get a bite in.. ha! Maybe I will just wait until they get here to start making the other stuff, so I will be preoccupied with cooking the meal instead of eating. Maybe.

All I can suggest is this:

I guess you have to decide if the few minutes of eating and drinking that stuff is worth the guilt and weight gain and “journey” delay that it will guaranteed cause you….

I know how you feel- my husband’s friend is “dieting” but then he comes over with a pizza or something. I finally was like dude really stop- I’m trying to lose weight you aren’t helping!

Thankfully he doesn’t come over like he used to or if he does I insist on making dinner or tell the guys go eat without me just don’t bring the food home.

Maybe you could conveniently “forget” the brie or say the store was out? lol. I’ve done that before.

OMG - Brie- I LOVE it. I would recommend eating ONE and then congratulating yourself on your willpower to enjoy something you like WITHOUT having more. It’s the TASTE you want in your mouth. Enjoy it- this is lifelong lifestyle change, not punishment. ;) Leigh
