Chemical Cooking: Foods that Reverse the Aging Process

There is no doubt that the aging process can be affected by the foods you eat, along with other lifestyle choices. Some foods make you more prone to signs of aging while some can help you preserve your youthfulness. If you wish to reverse the aging process, here are some foods that you might want to incorporate into your diet.

Avocados

Avocados contain high levels of vitamin E, an antioxidant known for its benefits to the skin. The vitamin E in avocados not only help you maintain smooth and supple skin, but it can also help you keep wrinkles at bay. If you are currently going through menopause, vitamin E can also help alleviate your menopausal symptoms like hot flushes. Avocados are also rich in potassium which minimizes fluid retention. This can be beneficial if you are trying to battle the bulge that usually accompanies aging.

Even though avocados are usually eaten as they are, you can also try other recipes with this fruit. One yummy recipe that you can try is Avocado Mousse. Start by whipping cream and sugar in a bowl until you have a soft mixture. Cover the cream and refrigerate. Next, peel your avocados and remove the pits. In a blender, mix the avocado pieces with lime juice. Finally, combine the avocado and lime juice with the cream mixture. This dish makes a delicious and healthy dessert.

Berries

Berries are another food that can help you fight the signs of aging. Dark-colored berries contain large amounts of flavonoids–phytochemicals that are also powerful antioxidants. Antioxidants are important because they help fight the free radicals in your body. Free radicals cause cell damage and can lead to several diseases. Free radicals are also responsible for several symptoms of skin aging, such as wrinkling and age spots. To get plenty of antioxidants in your diet, try blueberries, black grapes and blackberries.

The Triple Berry Crisp is a good recipe that allows you to combine various types of berries in one dish. Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. In a bowl, mix together some raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. Sprinkle with white sugar. In a separate bowl, mix together some rolled oats, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, ground nutmeg, ground cinnamon and butter. Take half of the mixture and place it in the bottom of a pan. Cover the mixture with the berries then spread the remaining mixture over the berries. Bake for about 40 minutes.

Whole Meal Rice and Pasta

Complex carbohydrates like whole meal rice and pasta should also be abundant in your diet. Not only do they give you sufficient energy throughout the day, but they also contain plenty of dietary fiber which can prevent hunger pangs.

To make a delicious Rice Pilaf with brown rice, heat up a skillet to medium heat. Melt butter in the skillet and saute some onions. Once the onions turn golden, add a cup of brown rice and continue to stir. Next, add some chicken broth. Once the broth boils, add the cinnamon, salt and pepper. Transfer the rice mixture from the skillet to a baking dish and bake for one hour until the rice is tender.
