Avocado Dressing and Other Easy Ways to Incorporate Avocados in Your Diet

Avocado dressing is a great alternative to high fat sandwich spreads and salad toppings. It’s also a good replacement for sour cream when topping potatoes or tacos. In fact, avocado dressing can easily be incorporated into your daily menu planning. And because avocados are full of nutrients and healthy fats, they will keep you full and satisfied throughout the day without feeling the need to indulge between meals. There are many great ways to incorporate avocados into your meals, consider trying the following options.

Sandwiches

The usual sandwich fillings include some type of meat, cheese, condiments and usually some fresh vegetables like pickles and lettuce. Adding slices of avocado to a sandwich is a hearty way to create a tasty sandwich. You can even replace the cheese in the sandwich with avocado which will significantly lower the saturated fat and calories you’ll consume. Avocados are also a perfect topping for open face sandwiches.

Salads

Avocado dressing isn’t the only way this particular food can be used on salad. Consider chopping an avocado and a tomato up into bite sized pieces and tossing them together with fresh basil and pepper. Then blend the mixture into salad greens to create a chunky salad. You can even create an avocado salad without using lettuce at all by tossing together black beans, corn, diced avocado and salsa and serving it over fresh brown rice.

Pastas

Avocados can be added to pasta in a number of different of ways to help bulk it up and round out the meal. Mixing avocado in a blender with tomatoes makes a great tangy, creamy sauce for pasta. Mixing avocado chunks with cilantro and fresh herbs makes a refreshing topping for Mexican style pastas, and you might find that simply adding a slice or two of avocado to the top of a pasta dish can contribute to a rich, hearty meal.

Spreads

Avocado dressing can be thickened up and spread on breads or crackers, or be used as a dip for fresh vegetables. You can also create a thicker spread by pureeing some avocados, tomatoes, olives, artichoke hearts and garlic together and then bake it in the oven until it’s warm and just starts to get crispy on top. Adding a little avocado to Ranch dip or other spreads will enhance the flavor and provide a heartier texture.

Chocolate

Believe it or not, you can mix avocado with chocolate to make cake, frosting and even truffles that taste delicious and are healthy for you. Simply incorporate the avocado by using a blender or food processor to mix it into your chocolate cake mix or frosting and then simply bake the cake or use the frosting as you normally would. Using other fruits such as berries or mangos is a great way to add additional flavor and nutrition to all of your favorite chocolate recipes without dramatically changing the taste.
