8 Herbal Remedies for Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage in the joints begins to wear down. This causes the bones to rub together during movement. As a result, the joints become swollen and stiff and are often very painful. The joints that are mostly affected by this disease are in the hands, knees, hips and spine.

There are many herbal remedies for osteoarthritis to help reduce the pain and even help to regrow the cartilage. So if you are suffering from osteoarthritis you may want to check with your doctor to see if any of these are suitable for you.

Ginger

Ginger can be taken in capsule form up to 2 g per day. You can also peel and grate the ginger root and add 1 tsp. to 1 cup of hot water to make ginger tea. Drink this tea 2 to 3 times daily. Ginger is also a great herb to add to many of your favorite meat dishes. It contains a chemical known as COX-2, which helps to reduce pain. Ginger also helps to relieve stiffness, allowing you to move better.

Hawthorn Berries

These berries will help to reduce the damage by stabilizing the collagen in the joint cartilage, as well as in the bone. Hawthorn berries will also help to reduce the swelling associated with osteoarthritis. You can take these berries in capsule form, between 100 to 250 mg 3 times per day. Or, you can also eat the berries as a fruit. By adding them to your diet you may even be able to reverse your condition.

Boswellia Serrata

Feverfew

This herb is used around the globe for its ability to reduce inflammation. Make yourself a fresh tea and drink it 2 to 3 times per day. If tea is not your favorite, then you can also buy it in capsule form.
